Although it looks like some strange medical appliance, it's a very effective solution to the problem of achieving precise focus shooting hi-def video with today's DSLRs. The construction is sturdy and in operation it stays in place securely and swings out of the way easily. I guess I'd have to add, while it deals with one problem of using a DSLR for video shooting, its awkward appearance tends to underline that these cameras are not ideal for video.

This is a great deal, for this price, I get great quality, a very useful product.
Once I did the setup, no changes in future uses. I can focus more accurately, and see the screen without light contamination even in very bright days (and Im from the caribbean, here's very sunny all year). Good diopter, adds stability, and is a great pice since is easy to use it and you don't need to get rid of a battery pack. Is great.

A very nice accessory to help with focusing. Both for sharp focus and just being able to see your image in a bright location. DSLR for video can be amazing as long as you have the neccassary accessories. This is one of them.

The Hoodman Kit is a good concept that attaches to the DSLR easily and is easy to move out of the way whan you want to use the camera's view finder.
I find that the drawback is the focus & resolution quality. It takes a good amount of effort to pull focus properly & a bit of strain to see the image to shoot clearly.

I thought that it was a little pricey, but I don't think that the alternative (using the rubber strap) is a good idea. I like it so far. However, I think that it costs a bit much for what you get.

The loupe works well but the method of attachment is bulky and interferes with the viewfinder when the loupe is raised up and away from the LCD display.

I use this product to mainly check for detail sharpness while shooting videos for interviews with my HD DSLR. I also use it in varied situation capturing A and B roll footage. I like how it fits comfortably around your eye and gives you a great view of what's on the screen. Some things I believe could be improved are dioptrics (a little soft) and the hot shoe mount ( becomes a little loose after prolong usage). Also the price.

I bought the Cinema Kit Pro by Hoodman just before going on a photojournalism assignment in Haiti. I knew I was going to be moving around a lot and in some tight spaces so I really didn't want to risk using an LCD Viewfinder with a magnetic mount. Enter the Hoodman crane, a device that totally fixes the problem in a fluid and stable fashion. The Viewfinder is optically top notch and includes a diopter in case your vision is less the perfect. Additionally there is a cold shoe mount on top which allows you to mount a light or microphone. I will absolutely continue to use this great product.

With this hoodman focusing a eos7d while shooting video is so easy. Magnification is just right for me and view of lcd quite clear. The crane attachement is easily adjusted for photos or removed from the hot shoe. Paying twice as much for a similar tool made no sense to me.

I used this product to video some tabletop shots on a Nikon d300s. provided good viewing of the lcd screen. I would recommend this to others.

Complaints about "center only in focus" can be resolved by twisting the eyepiece to focus it!

Takes some getting used to, as with anything.Very hard to know what is in focus unless you look direct center. A lot of distortion even after fiddling with eyepiece. Will not sit flush, light creep in. Will not stay tightly mounted on shoe. There are better products out there. Not worth [$].

Hoodman has come up with a nifty relatively cheap method to use your dslr for handheld video. Once you get it organized for your camera, it's a snap to install a second time. Attaching as it does to the hot shoe, you will be unable to use flash, even your internal flash. It does have a hot shoe of its own so you can attach a microphone or a video light. This is a big improvement over Hoodman's original kit which involved rubber band like straps which were a pain to get on and off, requiring removal of your neck strap. This system won't do for a fully professional kit but, for an aspiring amateur, it works very well.

I wear glasses so that may have effected my experience. It was kind of disappointing. Unless you looked straight on it was difficult to see if you had good focus.

I ended up returning the hoodman and buying a Zacudo Viewfinder.

Until there is a better solution, this works great when shooting video and needing to make sure things are in focus. Easy on and off is great. I don't fold it up even though you can, it's faster to just pull off.
