I used the Shutterboss the day it arrived in the mail to take some night shots at a decommissioned navy base. While the instructions were not entirely clear, I was able to figure out the devices idiosyncrasies fairly quickly and was able to have it do what I wanted. I took several 5 min exposures and it worked to perfection. On a subsequent trip to photograph waterfalls I used it as a manual shutter release and again it worked as advertised.I find if you use it in Manual Mode, with Live View, put the device in Self mode, click the Timer Start/Stop button to activate Live View, then click it again to stop the timer. When you are ready to take your shot, click the Timer Start/Stop button again and the shutter releases. It did not explain that clearly in the manual. The Nikon version costs $130 dollars, and this device is [$]. In my opinion it is [$] worth spent and I highly recommend it to anyone who shoots long exposures or does time lapse photography.

This is a nice unit for the money. Features are identical to Nikon version. But ... if you're serious about timelapse work - and intend to use on long events - avoid this unit. I "fried" mine on an 8 hour event - literally blew the IC chip. Again - if you are serious, spend the money and buy the Nikon unit. It looks identical and at first you will think it's nothing but a "Nikon branded" version. Wrong. I've had both, and have taken both apart - the "guts" are different - and Nikon's is built like a tank inside. The last TL event I did with the Nikon was 28 days/1 shot per minute/24/7, tripping 3 cameras. Nikon "took a lickin' and kept on tickin'" - this unit would have never survived the first or second day.

Comments about Pearstone ShutterBoss Timed Remote for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:
The Pearstone Timed Remote is a great value. The instructions could be a little clearer, but it is easy enough to get a good grasp of the pattern of settings.
I have not put it through any serious field testing yet, but it appears to be of excellent quality.

Comments about Pearstone ShutterBoss Timed Remote for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:
For the cost I'm pleased with this unit, it is very convenient for setting timelapse exposures in the field and makes a solid remote release. I put some velcro on the back of it so I can mount it to my tripod, and it's a pretty handy setup. There are a few functional problems, though. If your camera is very fast and is set to burst mode at JPEG resolution, it will actuate the shutter more than once for each "exposure." The "go" signal must just be sent for a moment too long, at least for my D300s. This is an annoyance, but if you shoot time lapse a lot it is easily overcome by creating a new shooting preset on the camera. But still, that's an extra few button clicks I shouldn't have to make. Secondly and more importantly, as other reviewers have mentioned, there is no "off" switch. It runs a really long time in its idol state, so perhaps the manufacturer simply intended for people to just leave it on. This seems a little ridiculous to me, though, as the batteries will die eventually.
All in all, I'm pleased with this for the price, it works fine and does a lot more than your typical remote release. But it's far from perfect.

Comments about Pearstone ShutterBoss Timed Remote for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:
The ShutterBoss works great; it does everything as advertised.
But there are a couple of things I would like to see changed.
1. An on/off button so you don't have to remove the batteries between uses.
2. The 'light' and 'lock' feature share the same button. Terrible design. If you want to use the light for more than 6 seconds and hold down the button, you lock the current settings. I suggest that you hang a seperate small flashlight on a cord from your neck and forget about the 'light' feature.

I would give it 4 1/2 if I could. Only complaint (suggestion?) is that I wish it had an on/off switch to prevent accidental activation and save battery power without having to take them out. Otherwise it's great. Simple to use and a must have for lunar and astrophotography.

Comments about Pearstone ShutterBoss Timed Remote for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:
I had a Nikon MC-36 which I used primarily as a cable release for night photography. Unfortunately, I recently lost it. I've replaced it with the Pearstone Shutterboss and have been very satisfied. The Shutterboss design appears to be identical to the MC-36 and it's $77 cheaper.

Comments about Pearstone ShutterBoss Timed Remote for Nikon with 10-Pin Connection:
I've only had this product for a month, so can't comment on durability, but it has certainly done everything I want it to do. A lot of its functions are already in my camera, but I got it for easier timed long exposures and long timelapses.
Its menu is simple and easy to set up and makes for some great images you couldn't get otherwise.
It's much cheaper than the Nikon product too.

It has all of the features I need at 1/4th the price of the name brand versions. It's well constructed and works exactly as advertised. If it had an "Off" switch and would have included a $0.50 lanyard it would have gotten a 5. Beyond that I'm completely satisfied and would recommend this remote.
