I started out my mousing with the little red eraser thing in the middle of the keyboard of an IBM ThinkPad. My first personal home-based machine was a Sony with a standard wired mouse. My first Mac came with a wired mouse with a nipple on top. My second Mac was a MacBook Pro with a large track pad. Each step of the change along was painful. Acquiring basic mousing skills is easy. Becoming proficient so as to be able to routinely manipulate all the buttons, sliders, etc. on the screen without feeling like the mouse is the long pole in the tent, takes time.
The magic trackpad is the first mouse that took no time for me to use without feeling like a novice. I suppose that's because the track pad on the MacBook Pro is so similar, but hey, I'll take zero learning time whenever I can over something else.
About the only thing I'm not yet used to with the magic trackpad is where to put it relation to my keyboard. I'm not used to having so many options.

I bought the trackpad based on the glowing reviews, but have found it to be problematic for me.
I had previously shut off the track pad on my laptop and installed a wireless mouse because a slight drag of a finger while typing would relocate the cursor to somewhere I didn't want to be, but thought that the magic trackpad would be better as I could place it away from the keyboard.
Unfortunately, I still have the problem of a slight drag of another finger on the surface of the pad leaves me somewhere I don't want to be.
nice concept, poor execution (probably on my part).

I bought this product with the intention of applying a Mobee Magic numpad to it (which converts the trackpad to a numerical keypad only when you need it). I however, have loved the convenience and flexibility of the trackpad gestures. I use them all the time now, and I don't miss my mouse at all. I wouldn't have ever missed my mouse had I always had a sleek external trackpad for my desktop computer.

This is a key part of my macbook-thunderbolt-big screen setup.
Using the trackpad to control the macbook from the couch is Sooooo much better than using the old bluetooth mouse that I have.
Optical mice don't track very well at all on a leather couch, but the magic trackpad solves that problem and allows for all the mac gestures as well.
All I need to do now is to retire the old, white bluetooth keyboard with the new aluminum wireless keyboard to have the perfect setup!

I like the brush-off and squeeze interactions to work with my iMac. I'm still learning other ways to use it, but I see it working for me with iPhoto and Lightroom.Not great: I still use my mouse, but it works like a trackpad on a MacBook - so if you like trackpads vs a mouse, it's great. I personally don't like the 'click' it has, but I like it better than the 'tap' you can alternatively use.

Pad works well and brings some handy functions to what would normally be your mouse. For manipulating photos or pages it is extremely handy. Can be programmed to do almost anything. Not being fully familiar with the mac notebooks some things escape me still. I still cannot figure out how to do a "return" with the trackpad.
