The 52mm UV Protector Filter from Tiffen is a wise initial investment. It can help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens.
A UV filter is the best available protection for the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to them as "cheap insurance".
Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters cut through some of the haze in the atmosphere rendering your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.
A UV Protector is probably the most popular UV filter people use. As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times to guard against front element damage but also adds the benefit of rendering your images clearer.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Sometimes I think UV filters should be called Flare Control adapters, because that's the way they are judged.
This Tiffen UV filter does what it's supposed to - filters out the UV rays. What it does with flare (adds) is entirely different thing, which shouldn't be overlooked especially if you don't want to have to think about lens flare or have enough money for filters that cost 10 times as much.
For me, this UV filter is just enough. It's extremely cheap, it filters out the UV rays, and it protects the front element. I do have to think about flare more often than someone with an expensive UV filter but that doesn't bother me. The lens sits on a 30+ year old AI-S lens and makes me happy (satisfied is more apt).
In the end, it's all about priorities and if you are not happy with this product then you should either scale down your expectations (understand this filter's limitations) or take much more cash out of your wallet.

When I was looking for a filter for my 50mm lens, I just searched for UV filters, clicked to price them low to high and purchased the cheapest one and I certainly got what I paid for.
For full disclosure, I use this filter on my camera exclusively for video work and the ghosting effects and flares this filter cause are out of control. When shooting in low light areas, there are severe ghosting issues caused by this filter. It gets so bad that during low light shoots where I have to fight ambient light like receptions, I just remove the filter, because it kills the image..
Also, I have noticed it gets very cloudy very frequently and kills footage. If you are looking for something to use as protection, I would recommend spending a little more on a better filter so that it doesn't hurt your image quality in the long run.

This filter is quite a good one, and, the price is right! I use this product on my Nikon 18-55mm lens, and 55-200mm Nikon lens. Fits both. It helps reduce haze from UV rays, and is just great. I have no complaints.

Use it on Nikkor lenses with 52mm mount. This filter mounts on them and never goes off, for protection of the lens. Very clear and easily cleaned. Great value

I've always used Tiffen. Not to say other brands aren't excellent, but since a pro suggested them that's what I've been buying since. Great fit, cleans easily and protects the expensive lens from accidents, finger prints even a lick from the pet you're trying to photograph!

I received a brand new DSLR as a gift not too long ago, and to protect my lens, I bought this filter. I accidentally dropped my camera. Thankfully, it still functions perfectly! The only thing that was cracked was this filter. If it hadn't been for this filter, my lens would've probably been destroyed. I recommend it!

I bought two of these to protect two of my lenses with out affecting my photos too much. So far all of the photos I took over the holidays still look great and my lens is well protected. Will definitely buy more for all of my future lenses. The rings felt very strong and solid and the lens doesn't feel cheap.
