I bought this recorder because I needed to record better sound on my Canon 5D MK2 and Especially 7D due to Automatic Gain Control. Since my 5DMK2 has manual audio I tend to use my Rode Video Mic with it while I use the Tascam with my 7D. I dont plug it into the 7D, instead I attach it to the top and have the 7D recorder reference audio. Sometimes I conceal this recorder with in the Groom for a wedding in his tux pocket while attaching an Omni Directional wired mic to it. I am blown away with the amazing sound quality of the groom, bride and priest and how their voices are recorded with absolutely no hiss or humm whatsoever. Ive used this recorder to record ambient sound that actually sounds clean. There is absolutely no hiss or humm is just simply amazing. Love the control set and how easy it is to actually access things, fast and quickly without missing the shot.
Some gripes I have with it are the fact that it takes mini SD cards not a big deal and doesnt affect performance I just dont like it, but I can see how it can be useful, I just about a SD card that can hold the mini cards in them so I can plug it in my MacBook Pro through the SD card. I dont like how you have to hit record twice to record. Once again not a big deal It just takes some time getting use to especially when your recording on DSLRs where everything is one click not 2.
Otherwise this device is great, I absolutely enjoy using it. I do like how fast it is, and how easy it is to access the menu unlike other records with like 1 button for everything. Im a wedding photographer and videographer so its important to have a device like this because canons DSLRs have a 12min record limit and sometimes you need to record longer than that and this audio recorder has no time restrictions, however big your card is, is how long youll record for. Then you can use filler clips to fill those spots where you stopped recording video because you got the audio for the whole thing! I dont only shoot weddings I shoot small commercials for small business, documentaries, interviews, etc... and this recorder is handy for all of those especially interviews. Once again the audio is amazing!

I use this device to record client presentations, from breakout sessions, shareholder's meetings, general sessions and other event presentations. It allows recording in WAV and MP3 formats. 2GB micro card holds 14 hours in MP3 format and 4-5 in WAV format. Easy to navigate and has an added bonus of digital instrument tuner. Very portable and files are easily transferred to your Mac or PC. This is a must have for event production toolbox!

In combination with the WHH4NL 3.5 MON Line to Microphone Attenuation Cable this is a great way to record a lot better audio with your HDSLR. I like the controls and build quailty of the Tascam products a lot more then for instance the Zoom H4N. Note if looking for XLR in, look for a higher end Tascam product or the Roland R-26.

I got tired of dealing with wireless dropouts. I now use these in place of wireless systems. Attached to a Rode PinMic or Headset Microphone this makes wireless a thing of the past for our fitness and sports instruction productions.

Comments about Tascam DR-07mkII Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
I use this product as field recorder for acoustic music videos. The mounts and accessories available for all the tascam products make them ideal for musicians AND film makers. The DR-07 mkII synthesizes the quality and functions of larger recorders while maintaing a highly portable and user friendly interface. And as always, you'll never beat the BandH price. If you do field recording, you need this in your arsenal.

Comments about Tascam DR-07mkII Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
I use the handheld recorder as an alternative audio source to the Canon Rebel T2i's internal audio, both directly into the camera's mic input and with post production audio syncing. Sound quality is significantly better, and the X-Y/A-B option is very useful. The recorder can go into standby recording mode, which is useful for using it as a mic for another audio recorder or mixer. The interface is simple and well built, though it leaves out a few extra bells and whistles. Overall, it's a good recorder with great quality for the low-budget aspiring film-maker.

Comments about Tascam DR-07mkII Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
This is definitely a great product for the price. It's small and easy to take around, and records surprisingly clearly. It takes a little bit of reading to get all of the features out of it, but it does have a lot to offer. I got this product over the DR-05 because it has the option of over-dubbing and microphone adjustment, and it was not too much more than the DR-05 in price.

I purchased the DR-07mkII in hopes of having a great journalistic device for recording live and phone interviews as well as some intimate live music shows. I have to admit, i never used the device, but upon its arrival I was disheartened to see how poorly it was crafted. You can't tell via the website, and there are no specifics in the Specs page, but it was made of a cheap plastic and i can assume would not hold up to heavy usage. Lightweight yes, but i am looking for something more longlasting.

Comments about Tascam DR-07mkII Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
I purchased this unit to record Historical Society public meetings. I've just used it for the first time and I really like it.
It's very easy to set up and get a sound reading for the room. The sensitivity is great and picked up not only the speaker but audience questions very nicely. It's only very easy to attach as a USB device to your PC to manipulate the sound file.
A tripod is very handy so that no handling noises are recorded. Once setup just let is go.
Like any other device you have to read the manual to benefit from the full extent of its features but it's menus are well layed out and easy to navigate. However, for the simple day to day recording one can't be this unit for simplicity and outstanding recordings.

Comments about Tascam DR-07mkII Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
I bought this for several reasons. My wife wanted a handy recorder to record our young son's memorable utterances and I wanted a recorder for impromptu music sessions or putting down musical ideas.
I find it very simple to use. Hit record once, set record level with back/forward buttons, hit record a second time and off you go.
I've used it thus far for my boys' band concerts, one son's drum lessons (where it's great for recording his teacher's demonstrations of grooves) and for recording family get togethers.
In these settings it's awesome. Relatively unobtrusive with very good sound quality, devoid of noise.
The one time it has really disappointed me was during recording of my violin playing. The sound was rather tinny and surprisingly unpleasant. I was playing fairly close to the unit and it may provide a better recording from a greater distance - I haven't tried it.
I also feel that it can accentuate the treble, producing excessive sibilance. It does have a very (VERY) limited tone control. I believe this affects only playback. Maybe it affects recording - I don't know.
Overall it does what I want and perhaps I can coax better acoustic violin recordings out of it with different placement.
Recommended.

This little audio recorder gives an image to be just a simple recorder to simply pickup voices of people and whatever else that it isn't too much. But i can frankly say that this little technology just helped in a short film it is simply fantastic specially with the windscreen. The sound is so clear if wanted also it can pick up just about anything from rubbing ur fingers to the movement of the tongue inside the mouth so if it used well this bad boy can and it will do anything someone desires to record and manage with.

I use this to record our church choir. I am still learning how to use it but it worked the first time I recorded our choir. Next step is to try recording by connecting to church's mixer with line input.
My only beef and it's because I did not check is that I expected the unit to be much smaller. I also used it to supplement/replace audio of my Playtouch vid cam. I have not muxed it yet but I see no issues.

Wanted to record sounds and personal notes to go along with photos taken at the time. I'm very happy with the ease of use and the great quality of the recordings. Read the 'quick start' guide and and began recording. The recorder is capable of much more than I have made use of. A great recorder for a great price.
