The Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light is a 200W-equivalent light for attaching to the top of your camera – or (likely via an adapter) to a light stand for use as a "sun gun" on a set or on location. The 16-LED light is powerful enough to use as a fill light outdoors. The TorchLED features a brightness and throw (40-50') that put it in the range of halogen lights.
If it has a free Powertap output, you can use your existing 14.4V DC brick-style battery for powering this light – a Powertap cable is included. Alternatively, the TorchLED Bolt accepts a Sony L-Series-style battery to supply the needed power. Though it puts out the equivalent of 200W incandescent light, it draws just 22W at maximum light output. At 4100K, which is a blend of full 3000K and 6000K light, the illumination is 3800 lux at 3.3' (1 m).

I went through two of these lights thinking mine was defective. I could not get the light up to 100% power with both color temperatures without it shutting off. After I returned the first light and experienced the same problem again, I decided to try different batteries. I ordered a $25 generic battery, the Maximal Power NP-F950/F970, and so far so good. The light can finally be used at 100% power without shutting off.
So be warned, even though your Sony batteries may still hold a charge and power your camcorder for an extended period of time, it may no longer be powerful enough to work with this light. I guess it has something to do with the fact that most Sony Cameras use about 7 or 8Ws and this light draws 22W.
The light does output a nice color and amount of light, but it requires a lot of power to do so.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I bought this light for my sony ex3 after looking at all the led panel type lights. I wanted a dtap capable light to use my idx batteries I have for the camera. Turns out this light is the only one in this price range that can use dtap without a buying a bunch of extras cables or converters. Its performance is incredible. I can run the light and cam on one idx battery for 4.5 hours! The bolt's light throw is about 30 feet. The ability to dim between color temps is HUGE! I used the 5600 to light and the 3200 to warm the subject up. I compared side by side with a flolight256. The bolt killed it in every way.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
the only issues I had with this light was due to me thinking I could use my old Sony battery's (to save some money) and I purchased the AC adapter for it and that proved to be a big mistake. The light would turn off every 5 minutes with the AC adapter. So I returned that and got new Pearstone batteries. So far so good. This light has a great throw and versatility with the color temp nobs. Great for on camera or on a stand.

After reading other reviews, this product seemed like it would be fitting to my needs for portable light. It's compact and light for the output it produces. Really great quality of light with adjustable color temp and dimmer. I heard that it consumed lots of power so I bought it as a two-light kit with the Powerbase 70 battery kit and each light with a battery pack will burn for hours. I'm VERY happy with this purchase. Highly recommended.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I am using this mostly for Macro on table photography. I also will use it for the small amount of video work I do. I like the light and purchased this after buying a small Switronix light. I have to say the one thing I am disappointed with is the supplied power cord. The instructions to what it fits is not clear and the batteries that one can plug into are not that common. I called the company and they told me this power connection was the industry standard. I I am using a power supply and have not purchased the 3rd alternative (sony battery or its generic) as of yet. The power supply choices are why i gave it 4 rather than 5 stars

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
Bright and relatively compact source for photo and video lighting. Excepts SONY batteries and other external accumulators with a wide voltage, but highly sensitive to the battery's capacity and does't work with small ones.
Very flexible way to control the color temperature

Super Bright, variable color temperature. A bit power hungry, but I'll take it as the trade-off.

Bought this after reading some reviews. Finally a light which is as bright as the company markets it as. During an event, it easily surpasses 30-40ft, and the variable color temperature is a bonus.
Using it with the Pearstone 970 equiv. and get about 2 hours.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
Powerful light to reach distance on dance floor at weddings or other uses.
Like the dimming ability and quick colour adjustment for warm or cool.
Well built and uses Sony type batteries, but alternate brand batteries work as well or use plug for external battery pack. Perhaps a bit heavy for DSLR video so use a bracket around the camera for support and it is fine. You can also swap out smaller batteries instead of 970 use the 770 or 550 for lighter combo and the dual charger from Pearstone with LED readout are good choices I think. Alternate batteries are available at lower cost. So far I only have the Sony but thinking of adding a second smaller battery or two. Good choice for pro video camera or dslr video.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I have tried many on camera LED lights, including name brands. This is great.
It has a circular focused beam and is BRIGHT. It is almost too brigt at 10 feet, which is where most LED lights are done. The variable color is great. It lets you dial in a Nice 5600k that is a little warmer than 5600k alone. Color accuracy is very good, very little to no green cast.
Minor things to improve: Wish there was a battery indicator on the light. Also, the difussion filter cuts the light so it only works at about 4-5 foot distance effectively.

Comments about Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light:
I'll start off with a caveat:Do NOT use this light with a Pearstone F550 battery (sold and recommended by BH Photo). The light will turn on and off spontaneously and you'll be furious. I've tried two of these batteries and I'm now using a SONY NP-F570 with great success. On to the review: this is one of the brightest and most flexible LED video lights I've ever come across. It is significantly (3-4 times) brighter than similarly sized units you'll find for sale on [@]. It's a highly effective product for photography (and I'm assuming videography as well). You'll find two different color dependent dimmer knobs on the light - one for warm light and one for cool light. It's also possible to mix them together as well as to turn them both on to the maximum setting to get the brightest light output.Give it a try - you'll love it.

I have been waiting for a video light like this for years. Finally an LED light that is very bright. The throw of light is as Swit claims, 30 or more feet. Fully adjustable output and well built. The ability to power it with Sony batteries is a plus for me as I have many already. It is an expensive piece of equipment, but I feel it is worth every dime! I have sold a couple of lights I had including the Bescor 150 watt LED as I will never use them again.
