The Nikon SB-910 Speedlight is Nikon's flagship flash unit--the most advanced in the Speedlight range. The SB-910 advances Nikon's lighting mastery by providing easy operation and menu navigation, with a newly simplified graphic user interface (GUI). A dedicated Menu button with quick access to custom settings also simplifies the flash operation. The improved thermal protection system prevents overheating during rapid firing by automatically slowing down the recycle time rather than shutting down the flash. Hard filters for fluorescent and tungsten lighting are included, and the flash automatically changes the camera's white balance to match the filter in use.
The automated zoom head covers 17mm to 200mm lenses (in 35mm/FX format), and can cover this range in just 1.2 seconds. This flash lets you select from three light distribution patterns: Standard, Center-weighted, and Even. It will also automatically detect if it is connected to a DX or FX format camera, and adjust itself accordingly.
The SB-910 can work as a stand-alone flash, or as part of a wireless group, either in Commander mode or as a slave (remote). The i-TTL system in this flash supports Advanced Wireless Lighting and versatile functions for up to four groups of Speedlights, with 3 remote i-TTL Speedlight groups controlled through the master SB-910. i-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash flash control employs Nikon's Advanced Data Communication System. This system provides an improved method for the monitor pre-flash and wireless operation that marks an evolution in higher precision--it forms the core of the Creative Lighting System.
Note! Please note that the SB-910 is only fully compatible with DSLR cameras that support i-TTL operation. With older cameras that use the D-TTL mode, only [A] Auto mode (non-TTL) is available.

I recently purchased the Nikon SB-910 to go along with my D7000. I already had the SB-600 flash. Since its only been a few weeks, I haven't had much time to get comfortable with it. But early indications are very positive and I'm happy with my purchase.
As background, I'm very much a beginner, especially when it comes to the use of flash. I was a bit intimidated by my SB-600 since it wasn't very intuitive to use. In reading some books on flash photography, it peaked my interest in it. In the book, the author referenced the SB-900 and it seemed much easier to use. By the time I was ready to buy one, the new SB-910 was introduced.
I think the reviews given to the SB-910 are very accurate. The user interface for its controls are set up fairly well and aren't overwhelming. One complaint I have is the on / off switch. It is very small and to set the flash as a remote or master, you have to depress a very small button and turn the switch. Not the best engineering in my mind but a fairly small item.
One issue I read a lot about with the SB-900 was the overheating shutdown after multiple repeated flashes. I've tried my hand at some easy splash photography, e.g., water drops. This requires numerous flash exposures in rapid succession. After a lot of flashes, the SB-910 did go into sleep mode but only for a short time. So while not knowing exactly how the SB-900 worked, I am not overly concerned about the performance of the SB-910.
So overall, I'm very pleased with my early use of the SB-910. I think it will suit my needs for long time.

Comments about Nikon SB-910 AF Speedlight i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I have used the built-in flash for years on my D300, and I regret not having bought this sooner (would have been the SB-900). It was extremely easy to use without even reading the manual and the results are fantastic. A great example of it's power was doing a large group shot on the ice of several hockey teams, and the light was very evenly distributed making a huge difference and giving vivid results. The recycle time was extremely fast (much faster than stated by Nikon) using inexpensive NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Comments about Nikon SB-910 AF Speedlight i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I purchased a second SB-900 so that could swap them out when the one in use overheated. The first time this happened I was alarmed because I never had this experience with my SB-800's. You can imagine my embarrassment when I had to stop in the middle of an awards ceremony to change my strobe because the SB-900 would not fire. I love the SB-910. It is easy to use and powerful. It works with all of the accessories I use i.e. SD9, Turbo's and Pocket Wizards. Nikon kept the SB-910 in the same form factor as the SB-900 so no adjustment is necessary when using the various lighting modifiers i.e soft-boxes etc. if one is using the SB-900 and SB-910 interchangeably. The SB-910 is a superb improvement.

I have an SB900 and love it. With the new SB910 I am looking forward to doing more fun lighting for portraits. This system may actually retire my other wireless flash controllers.

This is a great top of the line flash. Have not had it overheat or stall yet. Controls and menu is easy use and read. I am glad you don't have to buy a whole new set of accessories since all the accessories that fit the sb900 fits.

Comments about Nikon SB-910 AF Speedlight i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I held off replacing my SB-800 with the SB-900 because of concerns regarding overheating, and I am glad I did. This is a big improvement over the 800 in terms of ease of use. No more fiddling with menus, etc, and I can use the 800 as a slave. I am not a wedding photographer but I occasionally do sports photography, and am looking forward to working with the 910 and not worrying about overheating.

Comments about Nikon SB-910 AF Speedlight i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash:
I used to own 2 SB-900s, and I hated them because they overheated and shutoff all the time. I bought the Nikon battery packs, but they kept shutting off. I had to rely on my SB 800s. So, I ordered 1 SB 910 and it would not overheat!! just slows down the refreshing time, which I can live with. So, I sold my 2 SB-900s and ordered another SB-910. I lost $300 upgrading the two speedlights, but it was worth it to me.

I have 2 SB900 and 2 SB800. But this one is a winner. The flash comes with Tungsten & Fluorescent Filters, but no color filter holder like SB900. Hope I can buy a Bounce Dome(clear not Diffuser, so I can use a lighter gold filter.
Anyway,I am going to buy another one.
Price is a little bit high.
