The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-50mm Lens, as the name states, provides you with an exceptional mirrorless camera and a 12-50mm Olympus lens. This bundle ensures that you're set up and ready to shoot from day one.
The OM-D E-M5 sports the popular mirrorless technology that allows for a light and compact body. More than that, however, the OM-D E-M5 is an outstanding camera that provides you with tools like an electronic eye-level viewfinder, a 120fps refresh rate, a tilting 3.0" OLED touchscreen monitor, 16Mp of resolution, and - of course - an ever-expanding array of compatible lens options. All these factors boil down to a camera that's easier to transport than the average DSLR, yet puts multiple lens choices, and numerous other high-end features and functions, at your disposal.
Taking the features of the OM-D EM-5 one at a time, let's begin with the camera's high image quality. Making such stunning 16Mp stills and 1920 x 1080 HD video possible would be the 16Mp Live MOS image sensor and the TruePic IV image processor. The heart of the camera, these two work together with an array of M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses for impressive images and movies.
Other features worth mentioning here include Olympus' AF system, which enables fast, accurate images in a variety of situations. Additionally, 9.2 fps high-speed sequential shooting goes a step further to ensure that fast moving subjects are easily captured. The 5-axis image stabilization system also comes into play here, compensating for vertical, horizontal, and rotational camera shake, which conventional 2-axis systems of the past haven't been able to tame. This stabilization is built-in the camera body, and ensures effective stabilization with all lenses.
The high-res, 1.44 million dot LCD has 100% field-of-view coverage and 100% maximum magnification. The EVF also allows for enlarging the focus point for seeing the effect of many different features right in the viewfinder. In addition to this impressive EVF, the camera also has a 3.0" tilting OLED touchscreen monitor, making it the first Olympus camera to have such capabilities. The touchscreen monitor allows for fast menu navigation, and brilliant composition and review of scenes.
The OM-D EM-5 is also a tough camera, featuring a dust-proof and splash-proof design. As Olympus states, "multiple ring-shaped seals protect the camera from sand, dust, rain, and water spray". That means there's no need to fear the elements and as a result, miss the shot. What's more the OM-D extends this feature to the bundled flash unit, the optional grip, the power battery holder, and the optional M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ lens.
A "Key Line" Art Filter joins ten other available filters on the Olympus E-M5 and enhances the edge lines of the image to make it look more like an illustration. "Cross Process II" and "Dramatic Tone II" Art Filters provide variations on the popular existing filters, and the two new Echo effects for movies leaves a momentary residual image of a subject's movements when activated during movie recording. Users who like to perform their movie post-editing on a PC will particularly appreciate the Full HD 1080i movie recording function, which adopts the MOV format (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264)

Comments about Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-50mm Lens (Silver Body, Black Lens):
I've been waiting for a camera that packs this much into a small size. Awesome high ISO images, weather sealed, great lens selection, combined with the small size make for a perfect traveling kit. The electronic view finder is a major bonus, the touch screen is a welcome addition when it comes to customizing menu options. Lightning fast auto focus. Only downside is the external flash.

Comments about Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-50mm Lens (Silver Body, Black Lens):
There is a lot to like in the E-M5 and you can find this documented in the copious verbiage dedicated to the E-M5 over the last couple of months. I will focus on aspects that I have struggled with.
Here is the context:
Zuiko 50mm f2 macro (legacy lens, manual focus)
Spot meter
Close focus (wild flowers)
The EVF reacts very differently than an OVF to changing light conditions (there are some nice advantages with manual lenses). The problem that I have encountered is that as the light changes, the EVF brightness adjusts. This complicates manual focusing. Slight movements in filtered light and the output level of the EVF changes (a breeze in the overhead canopy, a breeze on the subject flower). I have compensated by assigning AEL to f2 and locking the exposure. I would like to be able to disable auto EVF adjust.
(on the positive, when using a manual lens and stopping down the aperture, the EVF will maintain constant brightness thus you can actually focus stopped down and see DOF at the same time).
The EVF on the E-M5 has a glass lens about 2mm recessed from the hardly adequate eyecup. This means the viewfinder clouds up as eyelashes brush the surface. I have never had this problem before. Maybe the EP-11 will help. Right now I have to clean the glass surface a lot.
Lastly, in different shooting conditions, I find myself digging though the menus to adjust the EVF brightness level. I would like to be able to assign a button to this.
I assigned 4 stars but it is probably more like 4.5.
I am interested in the 60mm macro that will come out but I expect to use it mostly in a manual focus mode. If it is as good as my 50mm f2, it will mostly mean a size and weight advantage.

Comments about Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-50mm Lens (Silver Body, Black Lens):
This camera has the features I've been waiting for in Micro 4/3. The key things I've wanted are built-in EVF, water/dust resistant construction, and sensor capabilities rivaling APSC. My opinion is that M 4/3 has arrived! I am very happy with this camera. If you are considering a new compact system camera, go ahead and get this! You won't regret it.

Comments about Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-50mm Lens (Silver Body, Black Lens):
I started shopping for a mirrorless camera about 18 months ago. I purchased and returned a couple other cameras that did not meet my expectations. I received my EM-5 on April 19th. After about 20 shots around the house and a 30 second video test, there was no doubt in my mind this was the camera I have been looking for and waiting for. The autofocus is crazy fast. It makes smile; The touch screen is very useful, not to mention cool. The EVF is perfectly fine from my point of view. The image quality is very good. I love the color accuracy. It's very easy to use and figure out the menus. The multiple dial controls makes it easier to get the shot I want. There are a couple of really well done art modes on the dial. I have not done much with the video yet, but from what I can tell so far, it will be more than fine for my needs. (I'm at best a hobbyist photographer, and at the moment, 90% of my photos are of my 2 year old and six month old kids.). Oh and the fact that its weather sealed is fantastic. I can't wait for the next rain storm to get some shots of my son playing in puddles. In a nut shell, its just a very well balanced camera. My only complaint is that the 12-50mm lens is a bit big for my taste. I bought it because of the weather seal, but just ordered a pancake prime lens, which will probably be the one that I shoot with until I can save up the cash for the Olympus 12mm F2. Ovbiously these are just first impressions.
