Nikon's MB-D12 Multi Power Battery Pack for D800 Camera is a grip that attaches to the Nikon D800 camera. It provides extended battery power with the batteries (not included) in the grip, plus giving you a better, more secure and stable hold on the camera, making it easier to handhold at lower shutter speeds. The battery pack is supplied with two battery trays--one that holds an EN-EL15 rechargeable battery, and one that holds 8 AA batteries. A holding case, contact cap and user's manual are also included. This power pack accepts 1.5V LR-6 (Alkaline), Lithium (FR6), Ni-MH (HR6) or Ni-Mn (ZR6) batteries.

Kind of hard to review this product that Nikon is so proud of when I have yet to receive my D800E :-)

Comments about Nikon MB-D12 Multi Power Battery Pack for D800 Camera:
The MB-D12 has become an indispensable part of my D800. It gives the camera heft which makes handling with bigger, faster lenses quite a bit more balanced.
Plus the vertical grip lets me shoot much more comfortably with a vertical orientation. I used it for a week with NiZN batteries and they are still nearly full. It never even touched the EN-EL15 battery inside. It also comes with the insert for using another EN-EL15 in the MB-D12.
You can program the camera to use the external or internal battery first. Which is quite handy. And you can program the AF-On button in the vertical orientation to lock focus for re-composing the photo. Very handy. If it also had exposure lock on the MB-D12, it would be perfect.
A lot of people complain about the price, but it gives the camera a solid feel. It is perfectly the equal of the rest of the camera. It's big and quite a handful, but then my hands are not small by any means. If I were to order another D800, I would get another MB-D12 no question.

Buy it if you own a nikon with no grip. Put bigger batteries in it and forget about everything except the image.

Comments about Nikon MB-D12 Multi Power Battery Pack for D800 Camera:
I always want a vertical grip for my cameras. I have large hands as well so this makes it work better. I like this better than a camera with the grip built in so when I am hiking I can lighten my load if necessary.

Comments about Nikon MB-D12 Multi Power Battery Pack for D800 Camera:
I put in the battery and held the Power Pack in my hand and then thought, wow, if only Nikon had their stuff together and released the D800 to all the unfulfilled preorders, I'd actually be using this product! Great product, but not much to say other than it is collecting dust at the moment. Shame on Nikon for such a botched product release!

This is a nice addition to the camera but come on Nikon, the price is a little steep for what you get. But...it works great and makes it easier t grip the camera.

I always use it, but it is strange that the price has increased as much as it has from previous similar items.
