Samyang 14mm f/2.8 Reviews

Doesn't come to focus on blue

I received a poor copy of this lens. It doesn't come to focus on blue and in fact it's hard to tell if if comes to focus on any color, but blue stars were the worst, huge and bloated with offset bright halos around them right in the center of the frame. Right side had large amounts of coma. So something isn't manufactured correctly. Disappointing since I purchased for a trip to Yellowstone and didn't have time to test it out ahead of time. It's got to go back and hoping for a better replacement.

Got a terrible copy and returned

I gave 2 stars only because I successfully retuned this lens. This lens is usable on the daytime, but my copy is certainly a terrible choice for night images. I got this lens and it produces a really weird coma (at least at f/2.8) and it's almost impossible to use when shooting night photography with these point light sources. I am returning this lens. Use for daily photography can be fine but not good enough.

Can the aperture be adjusted in 1/3 increments for Nikon version of the lens?
Asked by: Saravana Kumar
When using the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Nikon F, the aperture cannot be set in 1/3 increments mechanically, but when one sets the lens at the f22 auto (in red) setting, then the f stop can be electronically set at 1/3 increments.

question

Is this lens compatible with filters? If so what diameter?
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, due to the round convex shape of the outer front element in the Samyang 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens to assist in correcting distortion and other optical problems, the extreme convex shape prevent standard filters (or lens caps) to be used with the lens. The lens comes with an oversized lens cap for this reason, but we do not have standard filters or filter threads designed for use with the above lens.

Use on d610

Use on d610
Asked by: Ken
Yes. It will work on any Nikon F-mount camera, full-frame or APSC. On newer cameras like the D610, the aperture can be controlled either by the camera or the ring on the lens, exposure is properly metered by the camera, and focused is confirmed by the green dot in the camera viewfinder. On my copy, infinity focus is accurate and reliable.

Is this lens compatable with a D3000 Nikon digital camera?
Asked by: OTHNIEL
Yes, it is the standard Nikon F Mount and will work on all of the Nikon APS -C cameras. It is manual focus only but has a focus confirmation chip and will meter. I use mine with a D500 without any problems.
