Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
Purchased this mic to use for video production and I'm very happy with it.
Set up on a stand, aprox 4 feet from our actors, the mic picks up sound as clear as any lavalier mic. Voices are clear and very little ambient sound is picked up. Because of our shot framing, the mic picked up both actors, so it saved having two lavalier's on set, with their wires, batteries and mixer.
Mic was used with a Zoom H4n recorder, which also supplies phantom power. The lavalier's have already fallen to the bottom of the audio gear bag, as this mic is a great replacement, and it makes it so much easier for the subject being recorded, not having to hassle with wires or transmitter packs.
Just make sure you point it at your speaker's head, preferable their mouth, it has a fairly tight pick-up pattern.
Seem's very well constructed. I have an Audio Technica lavalier that's twenty years old and still is holding up, so I'm expecting that this shotgun will outlive me.
Under "con's" I listed Heavy bulky. Nothing wrong with the mic, but if you put this on a boom on a mic stand, you better use a sandbag on the stand base, or the weight of the mic can tip the stand over.

I purchased this mic as an overhead/interview mic for corporate video use.
The off-axis and rear-axis rejection was very good and we obtained good clean audio tracks.
The microphone is well built and reasonably priced.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
For the money, this mic is great. Exceed My Expectations!
I first used the mic on location while filming outdoor cooking show. The mic was able to pick up every sound detail, water boiling, chicken frying, etc. The chrisp sound detail added alot to the production.
At one point, someone started up a leaf blower about 75 feet away. The host of the show keept right on talking. With the mic on a boom pole about 5 feet away, he could be heard clearly over the leaf blower in the background.
My only complaint would be that the mic is so sensitive that don't think I will be able to use it mounted directly on my camera without some kind of shock mount. It picks up every bit of camera handling noise. So, if that's your plan you should get shock mount also.
I am using the mic with a carbon fiber boom pole and the Rycote S-SERIES WINDSHIELD/SUSPENSION 450 KIT.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
This shotgun is my primary hypercardiod microphone for on location shooting and has been a reliable and sturdy unit. I purchased this one to replace the used one I had obtained 2 years older with 3 years of use on it - some frequency response but with a much improved casing. In fact it feels like the response is a little hotter then the previous unit which is nice, so I don't have to bring up to gain on the mixer.

I was a bit skeptical when I was looking at this mic online because of the low price, but it performs really well! I use the mic for low/no budget comedy videos and the sound comes out with minimal hiss or white noise. Perfect kicking your low budget projects up a notch!

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
The AT 8035 is a very good shotgun mic for general purpose field use. It's sensitivity and response allow quality recording while it's modest price means you won't lose sleep if it happens to be damaged. If you plan on using it outdoors, plan on upgrading the windscreen.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
Use it both on camera and at the end of a boom. It's slightly cumbersome on the camera (EX-1) but the sound quality is worth it. It's nicely directional and while it isn't a high end Sennheiser, I'm very happy with it.

I do private undercover work and just bought this mic to video a potential cheater. I was able to pose as an average guy filming in the park from a distance while the mic picked up the conversation with pristine clarity. Buy this mic now and watch your video come to life! I got paid big time. Alright, it was my wife but this mic literally paid for itself and a new house and car.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
Used with Canon XH-A1 HDV camcorder for family event capture and in noisy environments. Very good directionality and sensitivity with reasonable noise. I shot video of our dog running around the yard chasing a ball and the audio of leaves rustling beneath her feet and her breathing is clear and crisp up to distances of 20 feet without a lot of extraneous noise from airplanes overhead. I'm very happy with the quality of build and it's light enough to not add much weight to the camera. It's too long to keep on the camera in the camera bag I have but this can't be helped if you want a very directional shotgun mike.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
While on a modest budget, a microphone is something that a small investment should be made. This works well within those means, and works well with the gear we had. Using a Canon XL1s with an attached MA-200, the microphone performed admirably. Getting the sound we wanted wile negating the noise we didn't want. An overall good choice.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8035 - Shotgun Microphone:
For the money, it does a very good job. Nice clean sound with little to no echo. There is a setting to futher improve the cancellation of echos when shooting in smaller areas. I definately recommend this model for people looking for a sub 300 dollar mic. You certainly get bang for the buck with this one.

Excellent close up shot gun mic. I had it mounted on my Canon XH A1 and recorded a meeting in our office and the up close sound is incredible.
Only wish the pick up pattern would be switchable.
