B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter - If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
The reputation of B+W's Schott glass is world renowned. The high production standards combined with a sturdy brass filter ring make B+W filters hard to beat. These filters have a "heft" to them that is impressive. They may feel heavier but the benefit is in the construction and results. Not only is the glass exceptional but so is the seal between the ring and glass. Schott Glass used in the manufacture of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is harder than traditional B+W glass. This helps prevent scratches as well as being water and dirt repellent. The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability.
In production, the filter glass is dropped into the empty filter ring from the rear and held in place with a threaded retaining ring; this is a definite advantage over a competitor who uses a spring clip to hold the glass in place. A threaded retaining ring will hold the glass firmly and securely in place to avoid the possibility of rattling and provide perfect parallelity and flatness to your front lens element for ideal optics. The part about additional filters not binding is due to the fact that brass is a very stable metal and does not contract or expand like alloy.
Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

I use polarizer filters for almost every outdoor shot, half of my indoor shots, and a notable amount of my studio still-life shots. Why? Because I value crisp light, deep blues and rich greens. With a polarizer, you can just “dial” the clouds into crispness, the water into translucence, and make colors more vivid. Of course, you can get some of this back in post processing, but why not capture more of what you want in the RAW file?
B+W make great filters, and their Circular Polarizer Multi-Coated filter is one of the best I’ve used. For sunny, outside shots I highly recommend the multi-coating, which reduces the artifacts caused by the filter itself. (Remember, since you must rotate the filter, you may find it inconvenient to keep your lens shade on--especially when shooting quickly.) Overcast or indoor shots are less likely to produce such ghosting artifacts.
I’ve found the B+W film coating to be more scratch-resistant than the Hoya filter coatings, so they last longer and can be cleaned with less concern about damage. Though not a “Kaesemann” filter, these filters are tight yet dust and moisture resistant for all non-extreme conditions. I find the B+W Circular Polarizer Multi-Coated filter to provide just the right balance between ease of operation and weather resistance.
For those worried about the 1.3 stop loss, consider the payback: color and contrast over haze and glare. The 1.3 stop of light loss is easily compensated for by using a fast lens and/or increasing the ISO.
One last consideration: I prefer the regular threaded filter to the “Slim” version for most lenses because I leave the polarizer on my lens and prefer the lens caps that “snap-in” to this threaded part, rather than the plastic cover that presses over the “thin” filter. I always lose the press-on covers and don’t have ready replacements. However, at the widest angle on wide angle lenses, you may get vignetting from the regular filter. Then a “thin” filter is best.

The surface stains rather easily and is somewhat difficult to wipe clean. The overall polarizing effect is not as noticeable as I had hoped for compared to other less expensive polarizer filters I have used in the past.
It does feel solid and is a bit heavier than it looks. I'm assuming that it is better constructed than less expensive filters judging solely by its weight.
Major item missing is a small notch making the rotating ring easier to use. It is too easy to touch the front glass while rotating the ring, and wiping the finger print smudges is not easy to do.
I noticed that all of my images have a slight bluish cast to them with this filter attached.
While I checked off that I would recommend this to a friend, I would advise my friend to look for a less expensive filter first, but if he or she wants a slightly better built filter then go for this one.

great product recommended by the B and H photo customer service rep...explained it very clearly why I should not buy the more expensive ideas (which he said it didn't make any sense). trusted him completely and took his time out for great service.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
I couldn't believe how beautiful the skies looked in my photos while using this filter. It really offers amazing contrast that you can't get without having a filter.
The only negative thing I could say about this filter is that it's really tough to unscrew from the lens.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
About as good as it gets.
Most polarizers degrade an image very slightly, noticeable on fine details at 100% viewing, but the B+W degrades noticeably less than most, including some from camera manufacturers.
It's worth a few bucks more for the best sharpness.
This particular version is not for extremely wide angle lenses, but works fine on most lenses, including my 24-70mm. B+W makes one that is thinner for very wide angle lenses, but this one is a little easier to screw on and take off the lens because it's not so thin.

It seems like a lot to spend, is what I was thinking right away, however it was worth every penny! I was replacing an old scratched up filter with this new one and just couldn't believe how much of a difference it made! I noticed much greater accurate color and clarity right away! If color accuracy is important to you, don't think twice about buying this filter! Thank you B and H team for your help!!

I own several B+W filter and the polarizing one are a must for any shooting outside when there is a lot of sun or reflective surface. It produces image that you cannot get by only doing post processing without such filter. Highly recommended.

I use this for landscape. I also have a polarizer from tiffen. The B&W has higher build quality but I don't see much difference as far as filter out the sky. It works great but pricy. Not sure it is worth 3X the price of the tiffen

I use this filter for outdoor shooting (landscapes and cityscapes). It's very good at enhancing the color of the sky and the contrast of clouds. It can be also useful to adjust the color of the foliage, and to minimize reflections from glass and water, often allowing to achieve a see through effect. Unlike my older filter, this one has outer thread for the lens cap.

One of my biggest pet peeves in regards to photo/video is when you have beautiful landscape photos or outdoor images with a washed out white sky. This filter eliminates exactly that. It also is phenomenal at reducing flares and reflections off glass and dark surfaces

I shoot Canon and have both the 24-70 f2.8 as well as the 70-200 f2.8, and bought one of these filters for each. This filter adds so much dimension to the photos! I can't tell you how happy I am with the purchase! There are many cheaper filters out there, but as with so many things: you get what you pay for. If you have spent the money on good lenses, then spend the money on good filters.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
I use this polarizer on EF 24-105 with great results, the sky and clouds considerably improved and also building colors are more intense. When I used this filter on EFS 10-22 lens a slight vignetting occurs at 10mm, so that a slim filter would be my next purchase. This filter is solidly built, attaches easily to my lenses and when it is twisted does stay in the desired position not like the cheap filters. B+W filters are very high quality, and after using these filters I will never go back to the low end filters.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
I'm using this ring to attach the B+W CPL MRC filter (77mm) to the Nikkor 55-300 3.5-4.5 lens (58mm front filter thread).
It attaches smoothly to the lens and the ring itself is built well (sturdy and smooth).
My only gripe is that the ring does not allow the filter to screw in all the way. It appears to jam after about 1.5 revolutions.
I have tried the filter on the appropriate sized lenses and it does not jam so the issue lies with the way the 77mm portion of the ring is machined.
The reason I am rating this ring 4 stars is because the filter is able to screw in far enough that it does not fall off and is therefore still functional.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
I use this specifically on my 85mm 1.4G, but also on my 70-200 2.8. The 85 is a great lens by itself, but once you add a Circular Polarizer, especially by B+W, your photos will never look like the same dull, flat, and boring photos you used to take.
