this film is Great i did many varity of tests with it from sunrise sunset moon rise and set
Long exposure star trails and moon trails and nature photography and
some of you who read this may object to my findings
but When i got the film back and scanned it in
i noticed another quality the film near infred sensative as i saw in some of my Night shots
the startrails were vivid compared to digital or regular slide of neg films
i recomend useing an yellow filter if you wanto boost contrast a orange filter if you want more contrast and a deep red filter if you want MAX contrast
my test subject everything you find comonly in nature
film does not work well however with reflections in water this is also where i noticed infred like qualitys (remember this is not an ifred film)
but some type of exposures tned to have infred like qualitys
if you like to shoot fine art with this film you will love it
i will test this film in total infared long exposure to test and conferm to see if it is at all infred sensative

Shot with this in 6x6cm and could not get enough of the clarity in transparency film. Great for your hi-res landscapes, old-school quality and uniqueness

I recently bought the agfa scala black and white slide, at first I was eager to find the 120mm but all I got was 4 of 35mm, I am still taking pictures and saving those shots for the perfect moment, since I know they will be very special, about the expiration date I am not worried at all....

Comments about Agfa Scala-200 135-36 Professional Black & White Slide Film (ISO-200) (EXPIRED June 2010):
I was using this stock to shoot behind the scenes at a studio session of a jazz album. I was trying to recreate an album cover of a Cannonball Adderley record. I decided to use Agfa 200 ISO film and push it one stop. What I received from the lab was exactly what I was going for! The grain structure was awesome. The stock maintained the blacks and protected my highlights. I was totally satisfied.

I didn't use it for slides. I used it for portraits and completely love it. Awesome contrast, very rich.

I used four rolls exposed normally, and hopefully processed normal too, but the contrast was much higher than expected. The outcome did not look natural. I used Main Photo & Imaging Service in Santa Anna, CA to develop the film. I do not recommend their service. I expect they pushed/over-processed the film.

Great film, nothing else like it. Lovely for everything from portraits to landscape photography. Beautiful tonal range, wonderful for those of us that still like old school slide shows.

it is unique, it is the only black and white slide film left, it is very grainy which you may not want it all the time, but it can be a lot of fun too.

I use 120 and 4x5 for great cibachrome prints.
6x6 cibas at 30"x30" are very sharp.
Dr5 processed work best for me.

I started a project a few years ago, shooting portraits using a Hasselblad Superacromat 250, extension tube, and a single softbox.
The detail of the images is unparalleled.
To see the portraits on a light box with a mamiya 6x7 loupe is breathtaking.
I hope to one day project these with a Hass. projector. Super great film it is.
Glad I stocked up!

Scala is the most wonderful film. It has depth and soul and is capable of wonderful images. It's film - so you have to scan it...use the pre-paid mailer because you won't find any 'local' source of development. I like Scala because it is true black & white photography. Red filters for great skys, yellow for general use and green for the best skin tones ever.

I have been working with SCALA for years and was very dissapointed when I heard it would be discontinued. I am using it for a special effect sequence in an upcoming motion picture, and there is no other film that can do the job. I had been digging around for it, sure am glad I found it!!!

I love slide films.
Especially, Agfa Scala gives me B&W image as slide film.
Everything is improved for me.
Bad thing is discontinuation of this.
Until stock is available, I gonna use it.
Now I have 50 rolls.
While lasts, get them~!

I enjoy using Scala 200 for both protrait and Landscape work in both 35mm and 120mm.
Due to its limited contrast level I think it makes a better portrait film for my needs than a landscape film giving a feel of portraits shot in the 1940-50's with a certain luminous and smooth feel to them, but I have been successful in both arenas using it.
Its lack of contrast limits its use in landscape mode.
Sad, but it is discontinued so I will lay on a supply of it and wait for it to run out.

I think this is the last B&W slide film being made so that makes your choice easy.
Like most slide films it doesn't have great latitude. The tones seem a little flat for my taste. Scans ok.
If you want great B&W you should probably stick to a good print film but if you need slides .... this is it.

Comments about Agfa Scala-200 135-36 Professional Black & White Slide Film (ISO-200) (EXPIRED June 2010):
Agfa APX in my opinion is one of the must underrated photographic emulsions of all time.If processed in Rodinal at say 1:50 for 13mins it will give you a tonal range to die for, quite reminiscent of the smooth tonal transitions you get with medium format. Use it while its still available.

Merchant response: The film's expired status was clearly posted (with the nominal exp date) then and now. We cold-store this film so the effective exp date is extended but customers are cautioned it IS expired film nevertheless.
