The Standard Housing is included, featuring a depth rating of 131', plus it helps protect the camera from sand, dust, mud, dirt, and more. For mounting the camera two adhesive mounts are included - a flat version ideal for surf boards and vehicle mounting, and a curved version ideal for non-vented helmets. In addition, the camera can be adapted to a plethora of GoPro and third-party mounts that feature the standard three-pong, thumbscrew-tightened interface which is virtually ubiquitous in the GoPro line.

GoPro HERO3 Overview

With 1080p30 video and 5-megapixel still recording, the GoPro HERO3 White Edition Action Camera features a versatile design that includes compatibility with a wide range of mounts for use in all sorts of contexts. The Standard Housing is included, featuring a depth rating of 131', plus it helps protect the camera from sand, dust, mud, dirt, and more. For mounting the camera two adhesive mounts are included - a flat version ideal for surf boards and vehicle mounting, and a curved version ideal for non-vented helmets. In addition, the camera can be adapted to a plethora of GoPro and third-party mounts that feature the standard three-pong, thumbscrew-tightened interface which is virtually ubiquitous in the GoPro line.

The HERO3 White Edition records internally on microSDHC/SDXC memory cards, with support for capacities up to 64GB. At least Class 4 cards are required for all but one setting, while for the 0.5 second time-lapse mode a Class 10 or faster card is required. There is a mini-USB port to transfer data off the card and charge the battery. The USB port also provides connection for the separately available AV adapter and 3.5mm mic adapter.

Multiple HD Recording Modes
The HERO3 White Edition records in the following:
  • 1920 x 1080 (1080p): At 30 or 25 fps
  • 1280 x 960 (960p): A 4:3 setting recording at 30 or 25 fps
  • 1280 x 720 (720p): At 60, 50, 30, or 25 fps
  • WVGA (848 x 480): At 60, or 50 fps
Shoots 5-Megapixel Still Photos with Burst and Time-Lapse
Not just a video camera, the HERO3 White Edition also takes 5-megapixel JPEG stills in either single shot or a burst of three photos in one second. There is also an interval photo mode that takes a still every 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds. This mode can serve as an automatic way to take photos when the camera is placed out of reach or can be used to create time-lapse videos
Ultra Wide and Medium FOV Settings
The HERO3 White Edition features two field-of-view settings, depending on the resolution. In 1080p mode it uses the Medium FOV setting while in all other video modes it uses the Ultra Wide setting. A third, intermediate setting is used for the 5MP still mode: Wide
Wi-Fi Enabled
Built-in Wi-Fi allows you to control the camera remotely using the separately available Wi-Fi Remote, and enables full camera control plus content preview, playback, and sharing with a smartphone or other mobile device that has the GoPro App installed. The Wi-Fi remote works at a range of up to 600' and is able to control up to 50 cameras at once
Audio Acquisition
The HERO3 White Edition features a built-in microphone designed to capture both subtle and loud sounds, including voices, music, or the roar of an engine. Wind-noise reduction technology is employed to help keep the audio clearer during high-speed activities or when recording in a windy environment. For external microphones or other separate audio there is also a 3.5mm to mini-USB adapter cable available separately
Spot Meter
Ideal for filming within a dark space with the camera pointed towards a brighter setting (such as filming the outdoors from within a car). The auto exposure isolates a small spot in the center of the frame that it uses to determine the exposure setting
Looping Video
Records a continuous video loop that overwrites itself until you press the shutter button to stop it. It's ideal for saving space on your memory card while waiting to catch a moment of action
One Button
Upon powering on, the camera automatically begins recording video or capturing Time Lapse photos
Optional Accessories
Optional accessories available from GoPro that are compatible with the HERO3 White Edition included:
  • LCD Touch BacPac: A touchscreen LCD that mounts on the back of the camera
  • Battery BacPac: An external battery that attached to the back of the camera for extended battery life
  • Mounts: In addition to the included curved and flat adhesive mounts, there are a range of separately available mounting solutions that can adapt the camera for use in nearly any scenario
  • 3.5mm Microphone Adapter: Allows a standard 3.5mm mini jack microphone to be connected via the mini-USB port
