It feels very well constructed just like all Canon USM lenses. The auto focus is super quite and fast even while taking follow skateboarding shots. it is also quite consistent in how it's pictures turn out. i have used it a little for video which is mainly what i got this lens for a video im doing in the coming months we will see but i dont expect it to be bad by any means. If you are looking for a wide angle lens dont buy a zoom get a prime! also i didn't realize that it had such a small minimum focusing distance i have gotten some cool shots because of that.
but i guess as a low note i wish canon had made this like a 2.2 or a 2.0 since it is kind of mid range expensive but i love it none the less

I agree with other comments on the web about the lack of sharpness in this lens - certainly compared to the other Canon lenses I own. My one has a slightly "grabby" focus ring, but it is not really a problem in practise. To be fair though, it is relatively inexpensive, gives a great wide-angle frame and has a suprisingly close minimum focus distance. It also matches the other Canon EF lenses for colour and tonality. I just wish it was crisper overall.

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
This is a great lens for family gathering since it's wide enough to capture family events around the house. This is the first wide lens I bought from Canon and I couldn't be any happie.
The lens quality is great for beginners who are getting into photography, the image is crisp and clear. The price is great for low end lens, i would recommend this lens to everyone who wants a wide angle lens. Lens light weight and a great all around lens to use. Fast autofocus because of the ultra sonic motor.

very quick focus. gives great dimension to closer subjects. center sharpness is good, there is some sharpness and light fall off toward the edges but this was expected for the focal length.

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
This lens is sharp and bright. I am thrilled by how well it works. And it is so much lighter than my wide zoom. For my purposes this will be my most used lens. Why did I wait so long to buy one?

You just can't go wrong with Canon. I really needed the fixed focal length for some product shots that I'm called on to do. This one handled the project perfectly and the client is pleased as well!

Not as much distortion as the 14mm. Works great on FF and crop cameras

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
I've used this lens for urban and rural landscapes, product photography, and some portraits, and could not be happier. It produces crisp images with a great wide angle feel, without excessive distortion.
Some drawbacks: heavy, not very good for low lighting, and you have to get a handle on the foreshortening effects to produce good portraits with it (i.e. you need to approach portraits differently with this lens than with a more standard portrait lens). The focus is a tad slow, but usually quite accurate.

Typically for architecture, interior shooting and pets. The range of use is great, and it's fun to have a lens that can capture tight spaces as well.

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
I am a photo journalist for a weekly newspaper. I use this lens on a 7D and have had nothing but great shots come out of it.I bought this lens and a Zeiss 21mm at just about the same time. While the Zeisss is a beautiful piece and takes super sharp photos, I just can't justify the money. It was not $1000+ better than the Canon 20mm and the lack of auto focus really limited the amount of situations I could use it in. If i was shooting in a studio or landscapes only. The Zeiiss would win hands down but in real world situations the Canon 20mm does the trick for me and unlike the Zeiss I am not going to cry or kill myself if it, god forbid gets dropped or stolen.

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
I use AF and MF shooting the same subject, and MF is OK but not AF. Why? Is it the lemon I bought or it is the general situation that Canon only pay attention to more expensive L-lens. Then, how come Canon never think about to make 20mm L-lens? It is a big gap between 14mm and 24mm L-lenses.

I needed a wide angle lens for my 10D this fills the bill nicely. I have not had it long enough to find out all it can do or not do but initial impressions are that it is an excellent quality lens.

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
I use this product for on my Canon EOS 7D primarily for video purposes. The lens has a sturdy build, a nice wide angle even with the crop factor on the 7D. it well compliments my 28-135mm zoom lens, and is a new part of a my everyday shooting kit. Great for interior shoots when you want to see a little bit of the space around your subject. The focus ring has a nice feel to it - and I tend to prefer them on the stiff side. It did not come with a lens hood, which I was surprising, but no other complaints so far.

This is a nice lens. I have used it for day to day shoots that require a wide angle lens with a wide aperture. It seems like it is constructed well. I have also used this as a lens on my remote camera setup for basketball and it works great for that purpose. The only thing that I would recommend is the optional lens hood.

Comments about Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens:
one sharp lens. on my T2i cropped sensor it works as a beautiful 32mm, haven't tried it out on a full frame sensor yet. for the money it's a great buy. I'm into prime lenses only, and I'm a Canon guy. If you're into dslr filmmaking, go with prime lenses, and go Canon, cause after all they make the camera I'm using. Again, very impressed with this lens. The only downfall is the increase is diameter from my other lenses, thus I have to buy a new ND and CPL, etc.
