Before buying this lens, I spent some time thinking about what I was missing from my collection of lenses:
- 50 mm/f1.8
- kit 18-55mm
- 55-250mm
My biggest frustration was that I didn't have a lens that could take in more of the shot, but was still prime. I liked walking around with the 50mm lens, b/c it's so small, but i often had to back up to get the shots I wanted. I did some research, and decided that this would be a good lens to try out.
I love it! I basically haven't taken it off my camera since I got it. It takes gorgeous photos. The auto-focus noise is a bit annoying when it's quiet, and sometimes the focus lock doesn't work properly (ie: it tried to refocus when i recompose after half-pressing the shutter to lock the focus), but given it's price and the quality of photos, it's way more than worth it. Buy this lens, you won't regret it!

I ordered this lens to shoot weddings with. Well the auto focus is a little too slow for all that. But I do like the lens. It's a fun toy to play around with and it works well in low light situations.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
Mostly used on my 5DII for night images where I need sharpness wide open. This thing is extremely sharp at 2.8 which is perfect for my use. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the focus motor is noisy and a bit slow but then I shoot in manual focus most of the time with this thing so it is not a problem. Might be for some people.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
This is a decent lens. I use it on my 60D with a crop sensor and it works well for what I need it. I just wish it was a little sharper and worked better in dimly lit situations, but I knew that when I was buying a 2.8. I've only used this a couple of times, so after getting used to it, I may think differently about it, but at the moment I'm not that impressed. I just think it's a mediocre lens.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I bought this for my 5D. I was concerned about vignetting for some reason. I heard back and forth comments about the lens not filling up a full-frame sensor. But once I got the lens and took shots, no problem. I don't know why Canon would even design a lens that vignettes on a 35mm sensor. Even if it does, it's very marginal. You don't notice it. That was my big concern. But I'm pleased.
This lens sells out fast! I was on the mailing list when it came in stock. Within days they were sold out again. For the price. You can't beat it. It's a great focal length for everything. Not too wide. The 35mm would also be ideal but I wanted something with a bit more attitude. If you want to refer wide angle with having attitude.
It's better than the 28mm 1.8
And the noisy focusing motoring is neat. Still fast. And I like sound, actually.
Get it while it lasts!

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I needed a 'normal' lens for my 60D and wanted something near the same quality of the 50mm 1.4 that I had used on my 5D
The 35L was first choice but out of my budget. The 35mm 2.0 was next choice but not in stock anywhere. Then I stumbled on the 28mm 2.8. This is actually closer to the 'normal' lens than the 35mm on a crop body.
After using the lens for the past month and a half, I am super satisfied.
The lens is not as fast to focus as I remember the 50mm being but it's still quick. Sharpness will compete with the best including the "L" series at 5-6 times the cost.
Would I recommend this to a friend? You bet.

What I love:
Price/Value
Build Quality (focus is near perfection and manual focus is silky smooth)
Sharp images at all apertures
Fairly quick AF
Small/lightweight
What I don't like:
Relatively loud AF
Overall this is a great lens for the money. Perfect for indoor shots where you don't have a lot of room to maneuver. I have made it primary lens. Eventually when I switch to full frame I'm sure I will keep this as a wide angle lens. Build quality is good (especially for the price) and is head and shoulders above the EF 50mm f/1.8 I have. I use this with my T1i.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
Sharpness is ok (but not great) and fairly even over the frame on APS-C. Strong vignetting until about f/4.0. Overall, not better IQ than what you get from some middle of the road zooms. But if 28mm is all you need, you can't beat the price. Mine had some problems with the mount (very hard to get on and off the camera) and would not quite reach infinity on my T2i.

This lens is not going to do phenomenal things as far as shooting landscapes, but if you want something that goes wider and takes in more light, like you would for most gatherings of people, then this lens is perfect!

I wanted a normal view prime lens for my 450d and this 28mm canon lens fits it perfectly. The autofocus is good and I am not bothered at all with the slight noise it makes.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
Just what I was looking for. I hava a 50mm f/1.8 lens and that is a sharp lens, but a little long on a crop camera inside my house. But this 28mm (44mm) on a crop is just right. You can't go wrong with this lens. Buy it you won't be sorry.Reasonable at [$], but I would of liked it better at $199.00.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I ordered this lens because the second-hand sigma zoom I have been using finally gave up the ghost. I started my own mobile portrait business after working for a few other studios a few months ago and need something that is tack-sharp and wide enough that I can get medium groups in. This fit the bill and the budget. Is the focus loud? a little. Is it comparable to L glass? Not really. Does it take tack-sharp pix? Yes.

i found this lens very usefull for daily use, as the old cameras that came with a static normal lens. it's lightweight and i can make a good portaraits with it as a good landscapes and architecture photography. it is a good choice for a good quality and sharp edges without distortions as the zoom lenses does.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 28mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I primarily use the lens for landscape and portrait type shots. I love the color quality from it and the durability that is a little better than the 50mm 1.8 that I own. I think the only thing it is lacking is a wider depth of field, but that's what is expected at 2.8. I love the lens! Great product!

After getting used to this lens not having zoom and needing to set up really close to the subject, the results are great.
I was ready to get a whole new DSLR because of poorly focused shots. It was the lens, not the camera that was at fault.

NOTE:
It fits quite snuggly on the camera so when removing the lens it can be a little difficult.
