The Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 maintains all on-camera flash functions (including E-TTL) for one Canon Speedlite used off-camera at distances up to 2 ft. (60 cm). It is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras except the 630 and RT(which require a combination of TTL Hot Shoe Adapter 3, OA-2 Off Camera Shoe Adapter & Connecting Cord 60). It is also fully functional with the combination of the T90 camera and 300TL flash(from Canon's older FD manual focus system).
If you will be attaching and detaching the Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 from a flash bracket upon a regular basis, it is advised to avoid wear upon the bottom by purchasing the optional Bogen 3298 adapter to act as a 'sacrificial foot' for the slightly delicate bottom of the Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 itself.
Note! Radio interference emitted by this product can exceed specified limits in the USA, Canada & Germany when used specifically with the EOS 10s.

Comments about Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2:
The cord has a short life expectancy. I was lucky if I made it through a whole wedding season, about 22 weddings. I do not understand why the cord failed so often.
Comments about Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2:
The cord works fine... the bottom side of the external mount is broken. Guess that's what electricians tape is for!!

Comments about Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2:
When you go to portrait mode, the E in ETTL doesn't light up and your exposure is off. Also, flash compensation at the flash or the camera is negated after a few flips. Guess I'll try the new cord 3 this time for the extra $20. I should probably get a back up, too, if these things seem to fail so easily. Flash works perfect directly on the camera, so it must the the cord.
Expertise: High
Problems Encountered: Failed after two years.

I have used the same Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 since my EOS Rebel XS-QD (film) camera, then my EOS 20D, and now my EOS 40D all with a flash bracket. NO PROBLEMS, except if I over tighten the cord, it is difficult to undo the screw; then again I did overtighten it. I guess others who complain about it abuses it more than I do.
Expertise: Part-time Wedding photographer
Problems Encountered: If you overtighten the mount on the camera, it will be difficult to undo the screw.

I have had to buy three of these cords in the last 2 months-I am by all accounts hard on equipment but the upperplastic shoe on this thing is a joke- I have had then snapwith the slightest pres. Canon should either reinforce thelower plate with better material or offer an exchange -Seems a shame to toss the thing when if fact the only thingwrong with them is a cracked or broken pc of plastic.

Problems Encountered: Slide shoes groves break very easy.
Comments about Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2:
I've been using these for years and yes, the plastic bottom does break eventually if you're flipping the flash up and down on a bracket constantly IF you grab the flash instead of the bracket arm. But if you buy the adaptor the problem is eliminated and the adaptor can be easily transferred to a new cord if you find you need to buy one. Although I've never had one just quit working for no reason, I have had the need to replace them when my own clumsiness results in breakage (like last weekend when my tripod tipped over and the base of the shoe was smashed to smithereens).
Expertise: Professional Wedding Photographer
Problems Encountered: If you take the flash off your bracket to hold it off to one side DON'T over-stretch the cord. You can separate the wires inside the cord and it will not function anymore. No problems with the plastic foot once I bought the adaptor.
Items I Recommend: The Bogen Adaptor is a must!

I have the cord attached to a Stroboframe flash bracket ona Canon 30D. I haven't had a problem as of yet, I have beenusing the cord for about 7 months. I leave it attached tothe flash bracket and remove it from the camera when I amnot using the flash bracket.
Comments about Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2:
Normally happy with Canon (I have shot with them from the beginning and now use the 30D and the L series lenses), this off shoe cord is very weak and I have had probably 6 of them snap off with very few weddings shot with them. The cord is fine, and it works great until the plastic foot snaps off and you can no longer secure it. It's pretty ridiculous that Canon hasn't come up with something decent in their off shoe cord department. They must be enjoying my $50 that I need to spend on it three or four times PER YEAR. If you have another option besides this product, use it. This item will be a waste of your money, but unfortunately necessary if you want to secure the flash above your camera. I am refusing to buy another one right now and I am instead heading to the hardware store for the right kind of glue so that Canon won't get any more money out of me on this item.

Comments about Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2:
I purchased this flash to go with my 430ex. I was verydisappointed when its plastic foot broke after only threeuses, while I was shooting for the wedding of a closefriend. Having read more reviews, I now know that this cordis known to break quickly. At the wedding, I was ableborrow another cord, thankfully, but it was an off brand andkept switching between ttl and ettl modes, resulting in overflash in some of my photos. I recommend that you pay the extra $25 and get the Canonshoe cord 3 (I own both now). While both cords work wellwhen intact, the shoe cord 3 is a much more durable cord andcomes with a warranty. It is also easier to use, and yourflash is held more securely. (I had a bit of a wobble withthis cord. However, if you do buy this cord, I recommend that you getthe Bogen Nikon Flash Adapter to act as a sacrificial footin your bracket (also a good idea for the shoe cord 3) andthat you always have another back up. If your cord's footdoes break, it can be replaced for $10 if you call Canon, but that won't help you during an important event.

Problems Encountered: It's plastic foot is not at all durable, broke after onlythree uses.It didn't hold the flash securely, quite a bit of wobble. It's easy to over tighten the cord to the camera, and thenvery hard to loosen (in the shoe cord 3, there is a lockswitch instead).
Items I Recommend: Bogen Nikon Flash adapter
