The B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention. The slim filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and are only 0.1" / 3mm thick. They do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.

This filter is something I consider necessary for someone using a wide angle lens. I just bought this filter to use with my Nikkor 12-24mm lens and it works great. There are 77mm filters that are the standard thickness, but you will get more vignetting with those since they'll cover the edge of the lens. With this filter I only see slight vignetting when I have my lens at 12mm. If I change this to 12.5 to 13mm it goes away. I have seen other reviews where people complain about the lens cover that is included with this lens. Yes, it does come off occaisionally, and NO you cannot use your standard lens cap while this filter is attached to your lens. However, the product description tells you this information, so it should be no surprise. I don't consider this to be a problem. I'd rather use the snap on cap that comes with the filter and be able to use the filter (mainly to protect my lens) than to go without it. This filter is a little more expensive than some other brands, but in most cases you get what you pay for.

I'm only giving this product 3 stars because while the glass itself is flawless, I didn't realize that my lens cap wouldn't fit on it. Because the glass is so slim, you can't use a regular sized lens cap. Instead you have to use this lens cap that comes with it, that sort of fits over it. This is made of plastic and doesn't stay on very well. In the end, I sent the filters back and got the non-slim one (BWUVMC77).

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
First off, the only reason I do not give this filter 5 stars is due to the lack of front threads for caps/other filters/filter holders/etc. The filter comes with a cap, but I find that it falls off if I am not careful when removing my camera from my camera bag. I would only deduct a half a star if it was possible. OK, on to the good stuff.
I use this on a Canon 17-40 lens, and see no vignetting at 17mm at any F-stop. I used the lens before I got the filter because I got the lens first and just couldn't wait to use it... After comparing shots with and without the filter, I cannot tell a difference between using it or not. I haven't noticed how well its UV capabilities work, but as a protective filter, this one is great! I recommend this filter for wide angle lenses, despite the awkward cap.

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
I put this filter on my newly acquired Canon 10-22mm lens. Works great--it's thin enough not to vignette. Only giving it 4 stars because, as others have mentioned, the included (and required-to-use) lens cap isn't the most secure. I haven't actually had it accidentally pop off yet, but I'm guessing it's only a matter of time.

I still have not found anything that I can use from protecting this (lens cap) so it doesn't get scratch and I end up needing another. Really what is the use in this for lens protection? If it gets and scratches you will end up shooting through scratched glass or replacing it.

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
I purchased this filter to protect the front element on my Nikkor PC-E 24mm f3.5 lens. I have not detected appreciable vignetting and am grateful
to have a protective film at the front of this expensive piece of glass. I have
also chosen this filter for use on my Nikkor 10 - 24 mm f3.5-4.5 lens and I am equally pleased with the filter in this application as well. Excellent filter
and well worth the extra expense. Nikkor lens caps attach effectively but
I have not had significant problems with the caps which come with the filters.

This is a high end filter by B+W and it is meant to protect your lens and filter out the UV from the sun rays.

Just what I needed for the Tokina 12-24 for Nikon. Customer service assisted in recommending this filter. While a bit expensive for UV filter it really is very satisfactory. Lens cover falls off easily because it does not have spring clips to fasten to inside of rim. Is a thin filter and can not accomodate this type lens cover.

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
I would totally give this 5 stars if it wasn't for the lens cap. I need the slim to prevent vignetting when using it on the wide end of my 24-70 on a full-frame sensor. Because it's slim, there isn't enough lip to catch a standard lens cap on. It comes with a plastic cover that just pops over the end, but it's loose and just falls off half the time.

I bought this for my Canon 10-22mm wide angle. If you have a nice lens you must get some decent glass in the filters. B&W has great quality and a great 10yr warranty.

B+W makes Great Filters, I bought this one for my canon 10-22mm lens thinking I needed a really slim filter but I wish i had bought the slim with threads so i could use the stock cover. the cover provided works but comes off to easy.... guess I'll need to order another one ....

I bought this filter to protect a 17-40L and 135L from Hawaiian sea spray. It does the job without appreciably affecting the image quality or causing any vignetting. Won't fit well on some telephotos with hood and step up from 72mm filter size, but that's to be expected. The slim profile could cause some issues with stock lens caps, but if you need to weather seal your lens this filter will not get in your way.

As expected the filter is excellent optical quality and construction. Even though it is the slimest filter I was able to find, there is still some slight vignetting at wide end on SIGMA 17-50mm lens.

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
I bought this filter specifically for its slimness for use with a Canon 17-40, f4 L series Lens. I use it primarily for landscapes and architectural shots. It's slimness assures reduced to no vignetting as might be common place for filters with thicker frames on wide angle lens. It has been surpringly efficient in that regard, but I have also found it to be very proficient at penetrating haze.....moreso than for some other brands I've purchased for which I have paid more. The frame of the B&W is beautifully machined and the optics superior to other filters I've bought in the past. You will immediately notice the ease and smoothness with which this filter threads to your lens. The filter is a bit heftier than competing brands since it employs a solid brass frame as opposed to aluminum. Precision maching is immediately appreciated.....no biding....no drag......no cross threading. Over time, it is my intention to replace those others with B&W optics. They are noticebly better products. Do not get hung up on all the comments in the logs about your Canon lens cap not working with this filter. B&W provides a Schneider Optics lens cap that works just fine and I have not experience it "falling off the lens" as some have claimed. Buy the filter.....you'll appreciate its refinements over competing brands.

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
This is my first B&W filter, but it won't be my last. I have bought competing brands that are more expesive, but they have neither the build quality nor the feel of the B&W. But real proof of performance is in the fact that they absolutely penetrate haze without in any way affecting color or tonal balance. Much was said about the use of brass vs. aluminum for the ring. I dismissed it casually until I got the filter in the mail....it has a degree of heft to it that the competing brands don't have. It is beautifully machined and it threads to my Canon 17-40 L lens like it was made for it. The hand-held sunset shots that I took casually last night has caused me to consider replacement of the other UV/haze filters that I purchased for my other L glasses. Finally, much was said about not being able to use a Canon lens cap with this lens and the supplied Schneider Optics lens capped was criticized. I found that the supplied lens cap works just fine. Don't let that deter you from enjoying a great pice of gear.

Comments about B+W 77mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter:
I bought this filter to pair with a Nikkor 10 - 24mm zoom to protect the front element and to help minimize vignetting, it does the job.
B+W ( Schnieder ) quality is legendary, I use a 010 UV/Haze filter on all my lenses, it is a very effective haze / UV filter, second to none. As with many things in life you get what you pay for, with filters this is particularly true, I know of at least one major manufacturer who uses nothing much better that window glass in their filters. I don't see the point of spending $'s on superior optics if the first piece of glass the light passes through is inferior, which is why I always use B+W.
The slimness of this filter ring means this particular filter should be treated with more care, however as I can see no reason to remove it except perhaps to replace it with a pola filter, this should not be an issue in most cases.
Recommended.
