A B+W 82mm Haze (UV) MRC Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection. A haze filter provides additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. An ultraviolet filter allows you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees.
A B+W UV MRC filter is an excellent general purpose filter since it will not only protect your front element from airborne contaminants as well as fingerprints but also help you get better images at high altitude and while on the water. Using this filter will diminish the bluish cast caused by the various atmospheric factors, yet, it will not have an effect on the color balance of your shot. No increase in exposure is required.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. The excellent Schott Glass used in the manufacturing of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The MRC coating on this filter adds to its durability - particularly under less than optimal weather conditions. In addition, the hard coating makes cleaning the filter easier - especially when it comes to removing fingerprints or surface dirt. Moreover, this filter benefits users of digital cameras whose shorter focal length lenses are more susceptible to dirt and other contaminants on the front lens element.
Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
B&W slim filters are for wide-angle lenses and are 3mm thick. They do not have a front thread.

Purchased this to go on the canon 16-35 II 2.8L lens. The wide angle of the lens does create some vignetting and with a normal filter this is increased to an extent. The slim filter does not have the forward thread and therefore does not affect vignetting on the lens.
The filter is necessary to make the 16-35L lens properly weather sealed and I use it as portection for the lens and to prevent dust and dirt from getting to the zoom portion of the lens elements.
B+W glass is second to none in terms of quality and clarity. The brass threads do not bind and the MRC protects from unwanted glare.
The canon lens cap does not work with this lens since it does not have the front threads but B+W does include a cap that fits over the filter to protect it.
The only issue I have (and it is a small one) is that the hood of the lens when reversed for storage does not slide over the filter cap provided and you must remove the filter cap before taking the lens hood off.

Seems to be a good UV filter and is recommended by the-digital-picture.com. The only thing that keeps this from getting a more positive rating is the cheap and flimsy cap that is included in the package. It falls off all the time in my camera pack. The original cap that comes with my 16-35 mm lens does not fit this. What's the point of making a superior lens without a decent cap?

This filter is excellent, but the lens cap design could be better. The cap might fall off easily when you pull out your camera from the bag. That happened to me many times. That's the reason for 4 stars.

This is the perfect solution for protection of your ultra-wide angle lens. It is ultra flat with no internal threads, but it comes with its own slip-on cap - so you're good to go.

Slim is the way to go if using on 16-35mm. As many others have said, the lens cap doesn't fit on it, and the one they give with the filter does come off when you're pulling the lens out of the bag. But as long as you're ready for it, you can be careful. Not THAT big of a deal.

I have found this slim UV filter to be an extremely good product, my only gripe with it is that the lens cap cover it's supplied with easily falls off, which can get quite frustrating at times, and the slim version is not able to be used with a normal Canon lens cap cover.

Bought this for my 16-35L II. The glass is high quality, like all B+W filters, but since it's a slim design, you can no longer use Canon's lens cap. B+W includes a slip on lens cap that ALWAYS falls off. For a German company, this shouldn't be an engineering conundrum. Make the cap more snug!

Have the filter on a Canon 16-35 2.8. Works great, no loss of quality, no vignetting. Glass element of filter looks spectacular!
Since there is no outer thread, the lens cap just slides over the filter. However there is no latching or securing mechanism and the cap easily falls off when pulling the camera out of the bag already leading to some unwanted fingerprints.

Comments about B+W 82mm UV Haze 010 MRC Filter (Slim):
Yes, it's expensive. But owing high quality lenses priced around two thousand dollars each I prefer to invest in high quality filters. It's hard to give an opinion about UV filter. I think the best is to say – I never had any troubles with B+W UV filters and I keep them protecting my lenses 24 hours a day. I never remove it, unless I am shooting with wide angle and would like to use a polarizer. Because stacking UV and Polarizer on wide angle gives vignetting on my full frame Canon 5D Mark II.

Comments about B+W 82mm UV Haze 010 MRC Filter (Slim):
The original lens cap of 16-35mm/2.8L won't fit it, this filter comes with its own cap. When you don't use the lens' hood and keep the lens in a tight place, the cap is often removed when you take the lens out. For this price, the produces could make something more handy... Probably, I will use lens hood constantly regardless its size, or seek for some DIY handles for the cap.

Comments about B+W 82mm UV Haze 010 MRC Filter (Slim):
The filter looks good quality and slim. The original lens cap doesn't fit on it though. It comes with another cap that snaps to the front of the filter and it doesn't hold very well but this would not be a factor that would prevent me from recommending this filter. I use this filter on my 16-35mm 2.8 lens with a 5D and I noticed distortion. Since I read so many good reviews about this filter, I think the distortion is from the lens and not the filter, but since I'm not 100% sure that it doesn't contribute to distortion I will give it 4 stars.

We use this filter to protect the front element of our newly purchased Canon 24mmTSE II lens, and to have the haze protection & contrast augmentation that a UV-1 provides.
The thin design is essential for wide angle optics so as not to cause cutoff at the edges of the frame.

Comments about B+W 82mm UV Haze 010 MRC Filter (Slim):
I purchased this filter for my 16-35 f2.8 L canon lens because I didn't want to sacrifice the optic performance of a luxury lens with a cheap piece of glass in front of it, so I decided to buy a luxury filter with outstanding glass quality.
I'm quite happy with my decision.

Definitely not bad I mean it's good. BUT quality control is cheap. Lot's of residues. Filter cap is a joke. Overall it's nice but value for the price? hmm.. I'm not quite sure.

Yes they are expensive, and worth it. I exclusively use Canon L series lenses. B&W filters are the same optical quality and build as the lenses. In my opinion they are they best.

Love the B+W products! It's the only brand of filter I buy.
Some people have said the supplied lens cap comes off too easily, but I have never had a problem with it. B+W must have tightened it up in later editions.
The only minor downside is that because it is a slim frame filter, you can't use your regular lens cap with it. This is not a fault of the filter itself, though.
