The B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention. The slim filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and are only 0.1" / 3mm thick. They do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.

I use this filter primarily on the Canon 17-40mm f/4L and sometimes on the 24-105mm f/4L. It makes skies/clouds pop so vividly, and it reduces glare very well. It is very high quality (to be expected from B+W) and very slim - so it doesn't exacerbate vignetting on wide angle lenses.
As such however, the circular portion is less pronounced and there is no front thread, which also means that it includes its own special lens cover, which definitely slides off easier than the clip on caps. But that just comes with the territory; its not necessarily a fault - more of a necessity of the design and desired effect.

This was a great polarizer when in use. However, it would not take other filters or a regular lens cap - it came with a flimsy push-on lens cap that kept falling off every 100 feet or so. I do a lot of hiking in the desert, and this was unacceptable. This would only be a good filter if you plan to keep the camera on a tripod and indoors.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
I decided to try a different filter for my new lens. I was disappointed in the construction of this filter and the cap does not "click" on. I am going to hold on it to experiment with the effects of using a polorized filter in different situations.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
This polarizer is a very good addition to the photographer's bag. The only reason I give a 4 star rating is related to the cap that comes with the filter. After a couple of uses, it doesn't stay on the filter. It easily slips off and doesn't stay on. Otherwise, the filter works as intended. You can't go wrong for the price you pay for this B&W slim cpl.

Helps produce some great images, but the external ring is too thin/shallow for my stock lens cap to hold onto. Something I'll deal with, but not an ideal situation.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
It is probably a great polarizer, however I did not like how loosely the lens cover fits on it. It is because it is of the slim design. If you really need a slim design than I am sure you can live with the cover. I decided to return it, not because of any image quality, but rather I did not foresee how inconvenient this filter would be on my 100-400L. Decided I would be best with out a filter.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
I picked up the slim design as I wanted to use it with my Tokina 11-16. It does a great job, with very, very minimal vignetting at the wide end.
The quality and construction is what you'd come to expect from B&W. It's very solid and does a fine job.
Like others have mentioned, the lens cap falls off pretty easily but I don't feel that to be a big deal.
One problem I've come across is that if you stack this with another filter, you run the risk of binding the filters together, and it's pretty difficult to get them separated as the ring is so small. You can try a filter wrench (buy or DIY) or some other tricks folks have mentioned online.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
Bought for a wideangle zoom, because I read that you should use a slim design. Nikon lens cap will not attach to the shallow rim, and the B+W provided cap will not stay on. Also, it is very difficult to separate the filter from a step down ring because the rim is so thin.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Slim Filter:
I bought this filter primarily for work with extreme wide lenses and digital photography. The quality is terrific for the price, and the design is perfect for ultra-wide lenses. Though the slim design works to avoid vignetting, there are no other options for a secure lens cap. The one that comes with the filter comes off frequently. I find myself McGuyvering a cap with tape...not the first time I've done this!

I paid slightly bit more for the B+W brand. All my filters are from B+W and have never had a problem with them - had filters from over 8 years ago that I still use extensively.
Good quality product and a very useful lens.
