Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
This filter uses a Wide Angle (Low Profile) mount. Wide Angle filters are only 3mm thick (except for Polarizers which are 4mm) and are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses. In order to help eliminate vignetting (darkening of the corners), it does not have a front thread.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter:
This is a top notch filter for my 10-24 Nikon zoom. To make sure there is no vignetting, I tested to confirm that it does not happen. I have not seen any flaring which was a concerning since light is being captured from such a wide angle of view.
Only complaint is that I cannot put my lens cap on without taking the filter off, but that is a minor issue to not having any vignetting.
Although a little pricier than normal, I would buy it again.

An excellent redesign of Tiffen's round pola which reduces the the possibility of vignetting on wide angle lenses.

I use this filter on a wide angle lens I use for landscape photography. The polarizing filter allows me to punch-up the color and contrast of the sky. The filter is thin so it works well with my wide angle lens. It is well built.

This is a very adequate polarizer that is slim enough not to cause vignetting. A must have for landscape photography.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter:
Using with 16-50mm zoom lens on Pentax K10D. No vignetting even at widest angle. Note again that there is no inner thread, so a lens cap will not fit over it.The filter conveniently has a visible scoring on ring to orient its rotation. Paid [$] for it at B&H. Big disappointment that Tiffen has raised price more than 60%. Not sure if I'd have purchased it for the current price of [$].

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter:
I take a lot of tropical shots that include ocean and sky and using the polarizing filter makes a tremendous difference in the quality of the images I take. The low profile of this filter makes it ideal for wide angle lenses while also being perfect for any lens with this diameter lens.
There is a trade-off with the low profile filter in that it is not possible to put the lens cap onto the filter, which requires installing and removing the filter each time it is used. This can be time consuming but I'd rather do that than risk damaging the filter by leaving it on with no cap. It can be stacked as long as it is the top filter.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter:
Good polarizer. Really slim so that it fits underneath the stock lens hood on an EX1. Only problem is that you have to remove the hood in order to rotate the polarizer. But that's a problem with Sony not Tiffen.

The results are in the pictures. Did exactly what it was supposed to do. Really makes the landscape pictures pop.
Only problem is when you have the filter on, the lens cap will not go back on.

Being so wide, you will see a gradation from one side to the other horizontally in your photograph, so keep that in mind.

Comments about Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter:
Great filter, I own a Sigma 10-20mm ultra wide angle where this filter works just great.
The only thing I did not think of is that one cannot attach the lens cap onto the filter, being a thin filter there is no room to clip in on - I eventually have to get a cap that goes over the outside of the filter ring, since I often leave the pol filter on the lens when I stow it away.
