Powerful toolWhy would you want to buy this product? 1.)Remote shutter release - that can be 30 feet away with the Canon extension cable. Photograph birds in the nest. Buy the extension cable – yes it cost about $70 but, if you do this kind of photography you will need it.2.)Remote timer – delay the shutter from 1 second to 99 hours. Photograph the moon's phases over time or anything with a cycle time. Combine this function with exposure count to have more capability.3.)Interval timer – photograph a flower bloom opening –Take a photo every X seconds for days, great for time laps photography. 1 second to 99 hours with or without limits on the number of exposures.4.)Long exposure – take a 15 min exposure of a night scene, etc. - 1 second to 99 hours.5.)Set exposure count – combine this function with other functions above to limit the number of exposures taken. A Zero value = no limits on the number of exposures taken. Some reviews have complained that this tool does not have an on /off switch. You do not need an on / off switch. The battery life with this device on 24 hours a day is over three years. Does your watch need a on / off switch?Others have stated that it is limited to 99 exposures, not true. "... set to 00 (blank setting) the number of time interval shooting will be unlimited." This product works great, gives you many options to photograph special subjects, is light weight, has a night light for the display and allows you to take a photo anytime by pressing the remote shutter release. You can start or stop any function by pressing the start / stop button. Yes the buttons are small, but it works fine for me.

I have just killed my third TC-80N3 and feel the need, finally, to review this piece of equipment. The timer remote is great functionally. It does everything you could need it to do. The backlight is effective, all the controls work fine, it is reliable and does what it is supposed to.The problem is that this is now, apparently, a [$] item. I think it was closer to 120 the last time I bought one. Let me say this simply: it's not worth it. The problem with this unit is that, eventually, the cord on the timer remote end pulls out. It has happened to all 3 of my TC-80N3's that I have owned. On the last one, I actually taped the connection to the remote as soon as I took it out of the box to prevent this from happening. It helped, but finally after maybe a year and a half or two years it has pulled out again.I use the timer remote for almost every shot I take, so I am definitely a heavy user. However, for [$], the knockoffs of which sell for 20 bucks, this thing should be more durable. Use braided wire, improve the strain relief on the remote end. Having this thing fail three time for the same reason every time is not acceptable.I would advise anyone buying this to tape or otherwise try to mitigate the issues on the remote end BEFORE they become a problem. For me, I have finally had it and will be buying the knockoffs. For 20, or even 50, bucks I can afford to have a backup which will be nice. The TC-80N3 is a good piece of gear for 50 bucks. For [$] it is a tremendous ripoff and severely lacking in quality.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:
A regular user of this item - this is my second one due to the cord pulling out of the main body of the remote unit.
Come on Canon - for the price this should be MUCH more rugged for professional use.
Other than durability this is a great item and does everything you could wish for.

Just used my remote controller for my Canon 5DM2. It was brilliant. It was pretty easy to figure out, and I put together my first time-lapse video. I am excited to keep going with this type of work... it was fun to do and the possibilities are endless.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:
I've had this intervalometer for more than seven years and it has never failed me. I've used it to produce multi-day time lapse videos as well as a simple shutter release. However, it is poorly made given the price. The strain releif where the cable inters to main body is a weak point, resulting in the wires pulling out of the body. I have made repairs to try to reinforce the strain relief, but I doubt it will last much longer. The plastic shell of the main body is very thin and mine is cracked from years of use. For the price, Canon should have made this much more durable.

I use this for long exposures, HDR, and timelapse. Does the trick without fail in each instance. It's a bit pricey, and there's no on/off switch, can they claim the battery lasts 3 years... we'll see.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:
I needed a remote shutter control for some night time photography I was doing for my final project and opted to go for the extra abilities of the TC-80N3. It is a must have if you are doing any exposure over 30 seconds. Shooting in "bulb" and just holding down the shutter release on a remote for 1 to 4+ minutes seemed like a pain. This is easy to setup with one hand in the dark. It has worked flawlessly in the 100 or so shots that I have done so far. I have not had the opportunity to use the time lapse function yet, but I anticipate that it will work as well as the shutter release and exposure timer. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the price is a bit steep, unless you get a lot of use out of it. Which I plan on doing...

If you are shooting with 5dm2, I guess this is an essential part of the toolbox. Get those headlights on the highway shots or moon running across the sky, sunsets/sunrises, or people scurrying about on a busy street! So easy to set the time interval and create your time lapse. HOORAY!!!

It's a canon remote, so you are going to get a well built reliable product, & that explain the higher price you'll be paying for. Can't go wrong with origenal camrea brand products.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:
I originally purchased a cheaper intervelometer and it worked very poorly and would never stay in the camera without falling out. Upgraded to the cannon and payed more, but it payed for the quality of the product. No problems at all, easy and simple to use. It pays to buy quality and be able to keep it forever.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:
I primarily use this controller for low light photography. I wanted something that could be set to a desired exposure and not have to worry about being distracted and forgetting to close the shutter. It of course performs exceptionally well at that. I have not yet used to for a true time lapse series but my test runs have all been very easy to set up. I find the controller easy to handle and understand. The cable is very flexible and does not transfer anything movement to the camera. The cable does seem to lack a protective coating leaving it susceptible to UV/dry rot damage that some here allude to. The housing feels a bit on the light/cheap side, but what would it need to house that weighed anything anyway? Time will tell as I often am on the move, hiking to the next location. This does play well to keeping my total weight carried down.
It is true, it does not turn off. Canon claims the battery is good for 3 years. Another item I'll observe with more time.
