Powerful toolWhy would you want to buy this product? 1.)Remote shutter release - that can be 30 feet away with the Canon extension cable. Photograph birds in the nest. Buy the extension cable – yes it cost about $70 but, if you do this kind of photography you will need it.2.)Remote timer – delay the shutter from 1 second to 99 hours. Photograph the moon's phases over time or anything with a cycle time. Combine this function with exposure count to have more capability.3.)Interval timer – photograph a flower bloom opening –Take a photo every X seconds for days, great for time laps photography. 1 second to 99 hours with or without limits on the number of exposures.4.)Long exposure – take a 15 min exposure of a night scene, etc. - 1 second to 99 hours.5.)Set exposure count – combine this function with other functions above to limit the number of exposures taken. A Zero value = no limits on the number of exposures taken. Some reviews have complained that this tool does not have an on /off switch. You do not need an on / off switch. The battery life with this device on 24 hours a day is over three years. Does your watch need a on / off switch?Others have stated that it is limited to 99 exposures, not true. "... set to 00 (blank setting) the number of time interval shooting will be unlimited." This product works great, gives you many options to photograph special subjects, is light weight, has a night light for the display and allows you to take a photo anytime by pressing the remote shutter release. You can start or stop any function by pressing the start / stop button. Yes the buttons are small, but it works fine for me.

I have just killed my third TC-80N3 and feel the need, finally, to review this piece of equipment. The timer remote is great functionally. It does everything you could need it to do. The backlight is effective, all the controls work fine, it is reliable and does what it is supposed to.The problem is that this is now, apparently, a [$] item. I think it was closer to 120 the last time I bought one. Let me say this simply: it's not worth it. The problem with this unit is that, eventually, the cord on the timer remote end pulls out. It has happened to all 3 of my TC-80N3's that I have owned. On the last one, I actually taped the connection to the remote as soon as I took it out of the box to prevent this from happening. It helped, but finally after maybe a year and a half or two years it has pulled out again.I use the timer remote for almost every shot I take, so I am definitely a heavy user. However, for [$], the knockoffs of which sell for 20 bucks, this thing should be more durable. Use braided wire, improve the strain relief on the remote end. Having this thing fail three time for the same reason every time is not acceptable.I would advise anyone buying this to tape or otherwise try to mitigate the issues on the remote end BEFORE they become a problem. For me, I have finally had it and will be buying the knockoffs. For 20, or even 50, bucks I can afford to have a backup which will be nice. The TC-80N3 is a good piece of gear for 50 bucks. For [$] it is a tremendous ripoff and severely lacking in quality.

Puchased this due to the flurry of intervalometer articles in magazines, yeah I'm a sucker but I look forward to entering new terrain! Very pleased with the intervalometer. I've used standard remotes for years but this is one on steroids. Construction looks excellent, does the standard cable relase and so much more such as self timer, interval time, long exposure and exposure counts and any combination of the above. Very versatile! Read manual and try features before going out in field.

Easy to use and works a charm for Astrophotography. The backlight works well for the display, but I do wish the buttons were backlit to help ensure you are pressing the right one during night time long exposures. I love the accurate timings it allows right down to 10ths of a second.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I've wanted one of these for a while in order to use it as an intervalometer. Once the battery is in, the display is on until it shuts itself off. According to the manual, "the display panel uses a liquid crystal display. With time, the display will become lighter and harder to read. In such a case, take the product to the nearest Canon Service Center to replace the display panel (at cost)." So a built in cost to replace the display. I'll be curious to see how long this lasts.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I have an off brand wireless remote that would fail on numerous occasions. Got real tired of missing shots. Also, it would fall off when moving from location to location. Almost lost it once. The TC 80N3 locks on and will not fall off. I haven't used it in all of it's capacities, but what I have done it functions very well. I am very pleased. I would have preferred the Canon wireless remote but I do have to eat.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

While there is little excuse for Canon to not include most of the TC-80N3's features in the firmware of their DSLRs, I'm glad they at least offer up all the tricks that come with this handy device. I bought this unit to serve two purposes:1. I wanted to take exposures that were longer than the 30" allowed by the 5D Mark II.2. I wanted an intervalometer to use for taking time lapse photos.I can say with certainty that this unit does both jobs exceedingly well.Having skimmed through its manual, I was impressed but not surprised to see that it can actually handle all of its functions in combination with one another. That is to say, you can use it as both an interval timer and long-exposure timer for the same session. I believe you can combine all four functions at the same time. One really nice, yet subtle design touch is that the cord connecting the controller to the camera is coated in a slightly softer, rubbery material that gives easily. I point this out as a shorter, firmer cord could potentially transmit vibrations back to the camera body and disturb a long exposure. The cord on the TC-80N3 is soft and long enough, in my opinion, to avoid this.I also appreciate the backlight on this unit to help read the display while I'm taking shots at night.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

The interval timer works great - the downside is reliability. Out of my photo friends I know five people plus myself that have had the cable fray after only 2-3 years use. I expect more for [$]. Canon should be made aware of this. It happens way too often in my observations. My advice is to also buy the cheaper RS80-N3, use that for the bulk of your shooting and only use the TC-80N3 when you need the programmable modes. There are knock offs but I found that they didn't fit well and during shoots unplugged rather easy in comparison to the Canon brand.

The Good: The timer works great! It is easy to set, not requiring many steps and is pretty intuitive to take out of the box and start using.

The Bad: Can only take 99 pictures on auto, which depending on your exposure requirements isn't really long enough.

The Ugly: The price is not justifiable.

i only needed a basic intervalometer but this one does so much more. the ability to specify exactly how long of a super-long-exposure shot you want is awesome.

the only thing i wish it had is a way to program how long to do timelapse shots for. you can pick 1-99 shots, or infinity. would it have been that much harder to let you tell it stop after 2000 shots?

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I'm using my remote for time lapse video, and long time exposure photography. While the remote is expensive, I feel it is well worth it, since it works beautifully, is easy to use and solidly constructed.

The battery has a three year life span, the controls are very simple to use, and the
"bulb" button; which brightens the LCD screen in low light situations is very helpful. It should be noted that holding the "bulb" button for three seconds or more, will put the remote into "Hold" mode, to turn off the "Hold" setting, press the "bulb" button for three seconds. I'm really thrilled with this remote, I've only had it a week, and already I've taken some stunning long time exposure shots, and have been getting great feedback on my photos. If you're shooting with a 7D, you'll to have the camera set to "B" for the remote to work properly. It's also key to note this is the timer that will allow EOS shooters to make proper time lapse videos, hence why it costs much more than other remotes. If you can afford it, get one.

This timer is very straightforward and easy to use. It has lots of options that allow you to be even more creative with your photography. My favorite use is the interval timer which I use for time lapse photography.

Comments about Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3:

I bought the remote to shoot a time lapse event. I know there are cheaper knockoffs but i didn't want to run the risk of getting a lemon and having to buy another.

It's pretty simple to use. There's a jog dial on the side that let's you select the function and set the parameters. The owner's manual is easy to read and breaks down the functions in a grid format showing you what's possible when you combine some of the modes such as the interval timer and long exposure timer.

The only bad thing is that there's no on/off switch. So once you place the battery inside, it's always on. It takes a CR2032 battery so stock up. I can't believe it doesn't have an on off switch. For the price you pay for it, something like that should have been built in. So now, I just take the battery out when I'm done with it and stick it in a compact flash card case and put it all in my camera bag. An easy solution but the lack of a power switch is still stupid.

4 stars, it would have been 5 except for the price and no power switch.

Love using this product. Inexpensive for the potential results. It definitely takes practice, not something you can just pick up and start going crazy with, surprisingly. Not by any fault of the controller, it just learning how to deal with your internal camera settings to cope with factors like light shifting. What other piece of equipment can up your production value for under $500, though, ya know?

I mostly use device for time lapse but also for bulb exposures. Easy to use and and lots of options for using time in your photography. Problem: it doens't turn off. Not too big a deal as the battery does last forever, but on principal that is wasteful.
Maybe one day this will actually be a menu item for canon...oh to wish...

I primarily use the timer remote for timelapse projects. It's super easy to use, and so far, has operated perfectly. I couldn't do my work without it. It feels cheap, with its lightweight plastic construction-- but since I tend to carry everything on my back, I'm not complaining! Really, a great tool!
