This dual-purpose umbrella features a reflctive white interior surface. It is backed by a removable black fabric with a silver surface, which provides a soft but highly efficient bounced light source.
For close-up lighting, the silver/black backing can be removed, allowing the photographer to get closer to the subject while lighting through the translucent umbrella.
The unique 10-panel design provides maximum reflectance and an optimum circle pattern of light. The resulting light is perfect for catch lights in the eyes. This size is perfect for portraits of 1 or 2 people.

Compared to other umbrellas I have used in the past this umbrella was manufactured with better materials and construction opposed to the cheaper $20 ones. I am very pleased with this item and I am glad I spent the extra for the better one.

I needed a bigger umbrella for an interior shoot. This one does the trick as a very soft reflector and has the black cover with the silver lining when I need a little sharper light.

Great umbrella. It is very sturdy and well made. Easily removable cover, but it does take a second. I wouldn't consider that a con though.

Use mainly as a shoot through for indoor location work instead of carting softboxes. Used on my Bowen Gemini 500 Pro units. You may need to watch it closely if used outside as it will catch the wind. Very happy with the build quality and it feels like it will last a long time. Would not hesitate to buy another one if needed.

I am have only been doing commercial photography for a year. I have had some pretty awful equipment.
I used this as a bounce back and as a shoot through on two different occasions for head shots for real estate agents. It worked better as a shoot through.
It was durable and easy to use. Dollar for dollar this is the best umbrella I have ever had.

If your looking to but an umbrella that will last this is it. Better than many other big brands I have owned. Very sturdy construction and works great with a 46" Softlighter diffuser.

This umbrella is a solid choice for off-camera flash photography. It's very sturdy and opens and closes with ease. It does a great job at producing soft light either when bouncing the flash off the reflective surface or shooting through the white surface. It's not super quick to remove the backing but also not as hard as I expected. Basically, you need to pop off little metal tubes that go over the end of the umbrella spikes. The shaft of my umbrella came slightly bent and there is also a small discolored spot on the white fabric, but neither of these are a hindrance to its use.

Excellent umbrella for the price. Well built and comes in a travel bag for protection. The only negative thing about the umbrella is that removing and reinstalling the black cover is a bit tedious. Since I am using it for bounce, it is a non-issue for me. But if you will want to use both bounce and diffusion modes, you may want a different umbrella.

The silver backing, covered by the translucent material, bounces back a good amount of softened light from my speedlites. It is large enough to cover 3 people full-length. The entire unit does not feel flimsy, is stronger than the average umbrella.

The 46" Bowens umbrella was my first shoot through/covertible umbrella...needless to say it works very well. The construction is very good and very easy to work with. The shaft is very solid and the sheath is very convenient. Would highly recommend.

We use Bowens Umbrellas for our photography, we utilize both the 36" and 46" umbrellas daily they are very versatile. We love having the ability to fine tune our lighting by either using the umbrellas as reflective or shoot through and they are reasonably priced.
