Designed to protect unprocessed film from harmful X-rays during airport security and customs checks. Lead-lined bags also protect other sensitive media from the low-dosage X-ray machines used in airports around the world. Without FilmGuard, unprocessed film can become fogged or streaked. Use FilmGuard in carry-on luggage, because checked luggage is exposed to high-dosage X-rays that FilmGuard cannot protect against.
FilmGuard bags were tested for effectiveness by InVision Technologies, Inc., manufacturers of the only Federal Aviation Administration-approved checked-luggage scanning system. Films with up to ISO 800 speeds were tested. The extensive tests showed that the FilmGuard design will protect film and disks from the low-dosage x-ray units used to check carry-on luggage. (The tests also showed that the amount of lead needed to protect film from high-dosage x-ray units would make the bags too heavy to be practical.)
Triple-layer construction also keeps dust and moisture out: lead-impregnated vinyl sheet sandwiched between an outer shell of ballistic nylon and interior lining of smooth lining. Available in three sizes, in black only.

Comments about Domke Film Guard Bag (X-Ray), Large - Holds 35 Rolls of 35mm Film or Three 50 Sheet Boxes of 4x5" Film:
I travel frequently, and shoot high speed film. Great heavy duty bag that will protect your exposed and unexposed film, but will also get you flagged for additional screening by TSA agents.

Comments about Domke Film Guard Bag (X-Ray), Large - Holds 35 Rolls of 35mm Film or Three 50 Sheet Boxes of 4x5" Film:
Great design, much better than the old ones that I used long ago when I shot just film. Much needed today, when bag scanning is so much widespread. The large size is still small for my needs, 3 or 4 maight do the job for me.

Comments about Domke Film Guard Bag (X-Ray), Large - Holds 35 Rolls of 35mm Film or Three 50 Sheet Boxes of 4x5" Film:
Despite the airports claim that undeveloped films under ISO 800 don't take risk of X-Ray's damages, I'd rather keep them as protect as I can. This bag is good and big enough for the quantity of films I usually carry with me when traveling abroad.

Just used the bag, and my film turned out undamaged (even the few rolls of Kodak TMZ 3200). A word of advice would be to take this bag out of your carry on and put it through the x-ray machine separately because they went through my bag both times looking for it.

Great for those who still love film and like to travel, easy to carry, fits on every carry on bag.
As airport security is more demanding I'd recommend to, as you have to do with laptops, take the bag out and let them look at it.

Comments about Domke Film Guard Bag (X-Ray), Large - Holds 35 Rolls of 35mm Film or Three 50 Sheet Boxes of 4x5" Film:
This bag is a large enough size to handle four boxes of bulk film, yet not too large that it was a bother to carry. Also durable and high quality. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a handle. And what about some color options? Otherwise it would have received 5 stars.

This bag is LARGE, relatively lightweight and will give me peace of mind going through airports with a lot of unexposed film with less than up-to-date x-ray machines.

Comments about Domke Film Guard Bag (X-Ray), Large - Holds 35 Rolls of 35mm Film or Three 50 Sheet Boxes of 4x5" Film:
This was a great product for me as I was transporting film around Africa and used it as both an airport protective bag as well as for keeping the 120 film in a dark environment when there wasn't much dark to be had. It held at least 60 rolls of film and was easy to handle. It also seemed to be enough to convince most of the TSA people that it was film and that they didn't need to open it and rummage around - with a nicely worded request that is. The heavy lead liner also seemed to stop most of the X-rays - but that's just a guess. Some people said it scared wildlife, but for my situation, it didn't create any problem and in fact, the velcro was good for getting to stuff quickly.

I use the Domke large bag for daily transporation and storage of film when traveling. Perfect for its intended purposes.
My only complaint is that the velcro enclosure is alittle sticky and very loud when you opening it to retrive film. A snap button is perfered but overall a good bag.

Domke has brought convenience to the serious photographer. This film bag easily can be stowed away with ones luggage or placed within ones camera backpack for ease of transport. It allowed me to store and transport 30+ rolls of film during an outting with little discomfort and relative ease of access. The only issue I faced was the amount of noise created when the Domke bag was opened.Working with wildlife requires absolute silence at times and the bag was just a bit too noisy when opening.

This Domke Film Guard bag is a great product! Large, but lightweight. Fits more than 35 rolls of film. No more worries about whether airport x-rays will damage my film, or if the inspector will do a hand inspection, since most will not. A great product at a great price!
