Commercial demands on photography have changed a lot in the last few years. Today a quality digital SLR or 35mm camera satisfy most requirements. There are times however when some features of a view camera (tilt/shift) would improve the appearance of the image. The PC-Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D exists for this purpose. PC stands for Perspective Control.
The Perspective-Control-Micro-Nikkor allows you to tilt the plane of focus which can give the appearance of either increased or reduced depth-of-field. It also allows you to shift the lens relative to the film. This is a common studio trick that allows, for example, shooting down at an object and still maintaining its correct proportions.
This lens is multi-versatile, performing the task of any 85mm lens, allowing macro focusing down to 1.3' and Perspective Control for table-top studio shooting or special effect portraiture. This is a manual focus lens specifically designed for use with Nikon autofocus cameras.

Comments about Nikon Telephoto PC Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D Manual Focus Lens:
I am using the lens for nature photography. I have other Nikon macro lens but now I am having better success in geting all of a small insect or flower in focus. I am learing how to use this lens and expect it to provide me with much better photos.

Comments about Nikon Telephoto PC Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D Manual Focus Lens:
I do a lot of product photography and many times I shoot at an angle to capture many simultaneously. Many times I can open the DOF enough but there are times that I prefer not to. The shifting function of this lens was just the trick I was looking for. This lens also doubles as a fantastic macro lens and with the f/2.8 speed, I can add extension tubes without worrying about losing that much light and also use the shift function to fine tune exactly what I want the most in focus if I am not dead on perpendicular with the subject. As a PC lens for architecture it works well but at 85mm on a D200 you need to be a good distance from the structure to capture it all. Fine craftsmanship and a stellar hard shell case.

Comments about Nikon Telephoto PC Micro Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D Manual Focus Lens:
I use this lens in my wedding/portraiture. I love the tilt. I love the feel I get in my images. My clients love it too. At first, it was odd and a bit cumbersome. The manual focus and setting the f-stop on the lens made me remember my roots. Now, I use it with ease. It's pretty heavy, and doesn't fit gracefully in my camera bag, but that's a small inconvenience considering the beautiful imagery it produces.
It is expensive and it isn't for everyone. I however love this addition to my camera bag.
