I use this product with a Kodak Zi-8 camera and a 90-degree adapter from Radio Shack. I've used it in public venues where loud music is in the background and I'm carrying on a coversation with someone close by: it works great.
It seems to pick up really well. 10 feet is about the max distance you would want to try and record.
Sony makes a great product.
No complaints here.

I bought this mic along with the Kodak Zi8 because I heard the internal mic on the Zi8 was not that good.
I found out this is not true.
The Sony ECM-DS70P has to much highs giving a tiny sound.
The Zi8 internal mic is very good and more bass then the Sony mic.
I don't use the Sony at all now.
The Zi8 is a great camera and produces video as well, if not better then camcorders costing much more. I love it.

Comments about Sony ECM-DS70P - Mic for Minidisc:
This mic is good for closeup work, including lavalier. It does not pick up well from a subject 8 or more feet away.

Comments about Sony ECM-DS70P - Mic for Minidisc:
I was disappointed as I have used Sony products for years.
I bought this mic to go with my Kodak Zi8 as I had heard that the Zi8 internal mic was not that good.
That is not true.
I wish now I had waited until I tried the Zi8 first before I bought the mic
The internal mic has a better sound then the Sony and I now use only the internal mic which has better bass and excellent overall reproduction.
Maybe I just got a bad Sony.

Comments about Sony ECM-DS70P - Mic for Minidisc:
As a professionnal journalist, it is not always easy to get good recordings from a small pocket recorder, specially when this one is on a table. With the Sony mike, I can lay the recorder flat and the mike vertically, which works fine.

needed directional mic to work with Kodak Playtouch camcorder, this is not the mic for that. may be good for other things, but led astray by b&h sales rep.

We use this mic on a digital recorder with it's own built-in mic to isolate any noise from the podium. Works perfectly and recordings are very clear.

Great mic. Sound on the video is much better than the built in mic. It was slightly bigger than I thought it would be.

Comments about Sony ECM-DS70P - Mic for Minidisc:
I use this mic to record gigs and rehearsals for my band. Its portability is perfect for this application, as well as for getting decent recordings at concerts etc. You can clip it to a hat.
Comments about Sony ECM-DS70P - Mic for Minidisc:
I recently used this Sony microphone for recording a piano class rehearsal with my minidisc recorder. Hey, it sounded pretty good. It has fairly good stereo separation. There is some hiss, but the signal is clear enough to retain some hi-fidelity quality about it. Does it sound like a professional mic? Probably not. But it serves the semi-professional/hobbyist's needs. This mic will help me get through until I can afford the Zoom H4 recorder.
Problems Encountered: I haven't encountered any problems with this yet.
Previous Equivalent Items Owned: I have owned several low-end microphone for portable recording. This is better.
Items I Recommend: Mini-disc recorder
Comments about Sony ECM-DS70P - Mic for Minidisc:
This is an outstanding microphone for the price. It'shighly portable, maintenance-free (a condenser mic with nobattery). It produces superb recordings of liveperformances with natural stereo separation.
Problems Encountered: None.
