The Remote Audio HN-7506 headphones are designed for monitoring use by location sound recordists working in environments with extreme noise levels.

The custom design of the HN-7506 earpieces features a set of the 40mm drivers found in Sony's popular MDR 7506 headphones, ensconced in a pair of specially baffled, lightly damped, elliptical shells, providing an astonishing 40 dB of attenuation in the voice range, combined with the clarity and frequency response necessary for critical monitoring.

The result of the HN-7506 design is not only a vastly improved monitoring and mixing perspective, but also diminished listening fatigue and long term ear damage. These headphones are also recommended for live music recording and mixing, for eventual broadcast or commercial CD distribution.

This pair of headphones' primary advantage is the enclosure.

Designed after aircraft headphones, they offer extreme but comfortable physical isolation from outside noise--critical to the purpose for which these enclosures were originally designed, for piloting small aircraft. *The only difference is the addition of a headset microphone, which Remote Audio also offers.

My complaint with these headphones is that I do not prefer the sound of the Sony MDR drivers used in them. Sony's have a sweet, brighter presence response to them; however, they lack depth in the low end and also seem to have a lower output than the drivers in my Sennheiser HD-280 pro headphones.

If I could combine this enclosure from Remote Audio with my 280 pro drivers, I would give them a 5 star rating because I know that I would be happier with the slightly more balanced (in my opinion) and able to be pushed louder sound as a result.

Essentially, you are paying a higher dollar for the enclosure of Sony headphones.

However, given the fact that they do work as advertised and offer excellent isolation and lower leakage over the vast majority of other stock headphones, I know of no better product for the money if what the user needs is high isolation and ear protection in high noise environments, and so I do recommend them wholeheartedly.

I have really only used these for film shoots requiring location audio. This is where I recommend them the most: where critical, on-site monitoring is crucial to provide concise judgment calls onthe quality of what is being recorded.

Comments about Remote Audio HN-7506 High Noise Isolating Headphones:

These are, without a doubt, the best headphones I've ever used for location sound. They make it possible to hear ONLY the sound coming through the mixer. The're also fantastic for just listening to your favorite music. You'll hear music so clearly you'll discover subtleties you might have missed before. The only gripe I have is that the cable shorted at the mini-1/4 phone jack within three months of purchase. A little beefier strain resistant connector would be nice.

I use these for Film /TV production. Very useful in High SPL monitoring , you can tell what you are recording without excessive 'spill' from the environment outside - especially useful if SONY 7506 are your usual choice of headphones, however it should be noted that there is a significant reduction in LF response.

Does what it says on the can

Used the 'phones today for recording a live band in a situation that I could only be 30ft away from them.
The isolation proved to be very good that I did not have to kill my ears to hear what was going to "tape"
After years of using 7506 'phones I am so used to the way they sound that it is nice to not have to lose my reference point & have the isolation that I need.
These are not cheap & have not had them long enough to suffer from some of the complaints that others have stated, I'm hoping that they last a while.

Nice Cans, Good ISO, not rugged

Comments about Remote Audio HN-7506 High Noise Isolating Headphones:

i used this product for mixing live recordings down to 2 channels on the fly. the cans provide good ISO making it a breeze to check signal quality.
they fit snugly and are comfortable, but i ended up returning them because of the size and some concerns about ruggedness.

i travel to gigs on a bicycle and found these cans a bit bulky and the earcups are full of a liquid that i read can be pierced and leak. Before i had a chance to find out, i sent them back. i think the ISO can be replicated with a good pair of IEM's like the ETY's and a gun range ear cover over the earbuds. i have never found hearing protection with a liquid filling at gun ranges. i believe these ear covers can be found in the $10 ballpark.

Comments about Remote Audio HN-7506 High Noise Isolating Headphones:

I love these headphones. They are an integral component of my audio kit; like my 302 mixer they are used everyday. I have had my HN-7506 headphones for nearly 3 years & they haven't missed a beat. Of course the gel earpads will eventually leak (mine lasted for 2.5 years before leaking) but replacement earpads can also be found on B&H (something which the previous reviewer seems to be oblivious of).

The external noise attenuation of these headphones is phenomenal, the result is you hear exactly what you're recording with no external sounds leaking in. This also protects your ears in noisy environments, indeed the baffling is enough to protect your ears from a 50mm Navy cannon at 30 feet (yes, I've tried).

Acoustically they are also superb, with a very flat & clear response. In fact when not on a job I use mine for listen to music (an SACD through the HN-7506 is something to behold). I also use them when travelling for work on aircraft, they work better than previous noise-cancelling headphones I've used at blocking out engine drone.

In all one of the best purchases I've ever made. One caveat however: mine arrived with a 1/8" detachable plug & a 1/4" plug hardwired to the cable. Certainly not practical for Sound Devices 302 use as the connector was 3" long. I needed to modify mine with a hardwired 1/8" plug.

I am a recording engineer. I do a lot of location recording for both film and bands in clubs. I needed a set of headphones that could isolate me from the ambient room sounds so that I could concentrate on the mix. These headphones sound great and are comfortable to wear for long periods of time too.
