The JK Audio Inline Patch Telephone Audio Recorder Interface is an interface patch between telephone lines and audio devices such as speakers, amplifiers and recorders. The idea behind the Inline Patch is to provide a simple solution for anyone who requires a phone tap for the purpose of recording or amplifying telephone conversations. The Inline Patch connects between the telephone wall jack and the base of any analog or cordless telephone requiring standard RJ11C telephone cable.
Full duplex communication between the talkers is captured with great accuracy and hybrid circuitry provides a nominal 20dB of signal isolation between the transmit and receive signals. This minimizes the noise and cross-talk associated with audio over phone lines. Balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/8" (3.5mm) Send To Phone inputs allow line level audio to be fed over the phone line. A balanced XLR output isolates incoming signal from the phone line. A pair of additional 3.5mm mini outputs provide a stereo (isolated left/right) or mono mix of send, receive and line level audio signal.

This has been a very great asset to my ProfessionalTeleclass Recording Services! I can replay a client's pre-recorded audio promotions on aweekly, daily or monthly schedule. This frees the clientfrom constantly having to be live on a bridgeline, statingthe very same offers week after week. I interface & act as aHost for my client by addressing & answering their publicquestions, take orders or address technical questions orlogistics for, let's say the sale of a Coaching Program. Theclient sits back and receives the benefit of a livediscussion, without the hassle of being on the phone sellingthemselves. This is a constant income producing benefit tothe client to have me work as their Virtual Assistantusing their bridgelines or bridgelines I set up for theirconvenience. When an offer changes, the client simply retains me recordsa new promotion. I then arrive on their bridgeline, greetthe potential clients & take names, replay their recordingoffer and then come back to answer any additional questionsthe client's audience may have.Retaining my services frees the client to do other incomeproducing tasks and we are literally double-teaming their time.
Problems Encountered: None: fits on top of computer. Not a sleek design, just anice neat little box without frills; just a technical look.Could be made more compact and smaller; but is totally finethe way it is designed.
Items I Recommend: Mini speakers so you can hear the recording while it is playing so you know when to come back online

I wanted to buy this for taking phone calls in my home studio. I was a little frustrated at the hum in the line, but phone lines are notorious for bringing in extra noise anyway. It was easy to set this up and connect. If you're thinking of using this to send audio down your phone line and record a call, it's ok, but for me, I realized that I needed a "digital hybrid" to do more professional recording, like at a radio station. I ended up returning this unit and buying a Telos One. If this model isn't what you need, you should then look into the JK Audio Broadcast Host. It's similar to the Telos One. I was just familiar with Telos from being in radio for so long.

Comments about JK Audio InLine Patch - Telephone Audio Recorder Interface:
I've been recording company conference calls for a years using a device that has no audio control and worse yet was dependant upon an updated Windows USB device driver to operate When I installed Win7, that device no longer worked and there were no plans to update it. That put me straight onto looking for an alternative product.
So, enter the JK Audio "Inline Patch". First, I like that is does not require an Windows device driver to operate. Second (and more importantly) I now have some control over my voice level vs the level of the line with everyone else on the call. It took a few calls to dial-in things the way that I wanted them, but now I'm running smooth.
I found the folks at JK Audio to be very responsive and helpful with all my pre-purchase questions. This product works beautifully for my application and I highly recommend it.
I read that some people have expereinced low level hum on their recordings. I have not seen any hum or other distortion on my recordings. The results have been very clean. I highly recommend using the free, open-source, audio capture software Audacity with the Inline Patch. I got that recommendation from the folks at JK Audio and the software is terrific.

Comments about JK Audio InLine Patch - Telephone Audio Recorder Interface:
Interface works as you would expect. Only problem I've had is 120/240 cycle hum, low level, but loud enough such that if you're using a headset that goes down that far it's pretty prominent. I am using it with a cordless phone setup. I found that by switching over the cordless phone to Line 2 instead of Line 1, the hum goes away. Oddly enough it shows up on the recording though, which is going to the aux input of an Imac. However, that's just a minor annoyance as I just hit it with a notch filter at those frequencies and all is well.
Hum is the first FAQ in the manual - and the advice they give to fix the problem is rather worthless ("turn up the gain"). I tried various things to get rid of it (plugging it into different outlets, moving it around etc.) but it persevered. I even tried a different phone (not cordless). I have to believe there are isolation transformers in there, so it's not clear what is causing it. Thankfully I found a (somewhat kludgey) solution.
Gain is more than adequate and I like being able to have the each party be in different channels. I like the fact that it engages automatically when the phone is picked up (you can hear a relay click). I am pretty sure you could use the remote plug to start up an external recording device automatically which could allow you to record all phone conversations automatically.

Comments about JK Audio InLine Patch - Telephone Audio Recorder Interface:
I had a JK product before and wanted to upgrade to the Inline Patch because it would do what I wanted. Boy, it has done everything they said it would. We call in from various stadiums and venues on a POTS line and the inline patch goes into our sound board seamlessly. Our live events really go well when I know the Inline Patch is working and working and working.

Comments about JK Audio InLine Patch - Telephone Audio Recorder Interface:
I record client-sponsored podcasts over the phone. The Inline Patch gives me a much better recording than the way I used to do it -[...] Both methods resulted in marginal quality.I've also tried Radio Shack devices that produced a lot of hum and the overall sound quality was not acceptable.I send the output signal via a stereo 3.5mm cable dirctly into my computer's line in jack. The Inline patch separates my voice (left channel) from the voice(s) on the phone line (right channel) at up to a 20dB separation. It's not complete channel isolation, but more than good enough to allow me to adjust the levels separately and more easily edit the recording after the call. You can also use a mono output to your computer which will put all the voices on one channel. It takes some tinkering to get things set up for optimum recording, and each time you record you may have to fiddle with the dials. Plan to spend an hour or two getting familiar with the process. If you are looking for a great way to record phone calls for podcasting, webcasting or videos, it doesn't get better than this for under $300.

The unit works well, and I have not been able to find anything else on the market that performs the same function. But the cheap "experimenter's case" and front placement of the phone lines make it less than ideal. At the price point offered, you would think they would design one with the phone jacks on the back out of the way, if not in a rack mount case.[...]

I bought this to record training sessions over phone calls.
I'm still having a little problems with my volume x other people, but probably didn't have time to go through it with the attention it requires.
After recoding and doing a little noise reduction, got what I needed - Very good product - I recommend it.

Our aging Gentner went belly up a couple of days before an extended VO session with the producer phoning in to the session distantly. We got this unit while trying to fix the Gentner, and ulimately we left the JK box in place due to ease of use. It's not a phone bridge for multiple lines, but from cell phone to land line, we had no issues - it just worked right out of the box. [...]
