Panasonic AG-MYA30G - XLR Microphone Adapter and Mount for Panasonic AG-HMC40
The Panasonic AG-MYA30G is an integrated XLR input adapter and microphone holder designed for use with the AG-HMC40, AG-DVC30 and AG-DVC32 video cameras. The unit features 2 XLR inputs that can be independently switched to accept mic-level or line-level signal. An attenuation switch (ATT) increases headroom when using exceedingly "hot" microphones that overload the input and cause distortion. Each channel is equipped with its own level control and the adapter will supply +48V phantom power to condenser microphones.

- Dual XLR inputs (Channel 1 / Channel 2) allow dual mono or stereo signal capturing. Independent level controls are featured for added control over input signal.

- The inputs are individually switchable to accept signal from microphones or line level devices.

The Panasonic AG-MYA30G adapter blows the Beachtek adapter away I had before on my old Canon GL1. This unit has more features giving the user more control of your sound recordings. So easy to install, easy to use and worked like a dream with my Azden SGM-PD II Shotgun microphone right from the get go! Love the way it mounts under the handle of my Panasonic AG-HMC40P. As well, I'm more than impressed with the shock absorbing rubber fitting inside the microphone holder. This was so necessary on a shoot last weekend on the rough Pacific Ocean waters off British Columbia's West Coast in a smaller boat bouncing it's way through the waves & tidal whirlpools heading up the Bute Inlet. Buy this baby for sure, I know I will for my next camera!

This adapter is a great addition to either the AG-HMC40 or the AG-DVC30 cameras. I have 4 of these I use on both of these cameras and they provide good, clean sound using either a shotgun mic on camera or an external balanced source. It allows the recording of 2 sources to each channel or one source to both channels or a single channel. The phantom power is great for running shotgun or other powered mics. This is a must have product for these cameras.

If you want great audio quality for your Panasonic AG HMC-40, the AG-MYA30G is the way to go! It's lightweight and durable, and has two XLR inputs that provide your mics with phantom power. Here's the downside: unless you're using two mics at a time, this will record to only one channel at a time, and a preamp/DI box won't work. However, since you can center the audio in post fairly easily, this isn't a huge problem, just something to think about.
The AG-MYA30G also comes with a shock mount that you can attach directly to the camera. The shock mount is very firm and doesn't wobble, and the gel inside keeps your mic nice and stable.
All in all, this is a great product. Before I got this, I used the 3.5mm jack in the camera and always got a buzz. With the AG-MYA30G, I have no buzz and don't have to put those annoying batteries in my mic. The AG-MYA30G is easy to use, and I would recommend it to professionals, hobbyists and maybe the ambitious beginner.

I use the AG-MY Microphone Adapter and mount with Panasonic AG-HMC40 camcorder with an AT897 xlr shotgun microphone. The combo give superior audio (I liked the old shot gun mic with the 1/8 inch plug) in that there is much more quiet or much less white noise in the background. It took the quality of audio up several levels. I use to record bands, dance and interviews for DVD and Youtube. The gear does add a little to the drag out and assemble when shooting and I think it does give a slightly more professional appearance overall.

I am using this on my Panasonic AG HMC40 in conjunction with an Audio-Techinca AT897 shotgun microphone. Test footage shot of coffee percolating yielded fantastic results even camera, mounted without a boom. The ability to use quality microphones elevates the AG HMC40 into the professional range of camcorders. The individual channel selection and gain control allowed me to isolate those sounds I wanted and restrict off axis noise. Using phantom power and a quality condenser microphone yields crisp clean sound with very little noise. The audio quality matches the 1080 @ 24p video that I'm shooting at. The addition of the AG-MYA30G XLR adapter truly makes the AG HMC40 into a professional camera package.
