The Giottos M621 Quick Release Assembly is equipped with a camera plate that slides forward and back for macro positioning, and features a safety button that limits the amount of sliding on the quick release. Quick release plates are fitted into a compatible tripod's pan head or ball head quick release mechanism for easy removal and replacement of equipment.
The M621 has two bubble levels, and the plate comes supplied with removable 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera screws, as well as a spring loaded video pin. Two threaded holes on the side of the quick release allow for storing the unused camera screw directly on the assembly.
Comes supplied with a short (standard) quick release plate; dimensions 3.5 x 2.2 x 0.6". An optional 5.5" long plate is also available.

I originally acquired one of these quick release plates with some camera dollies I ordered for shooting video and first I was skeptical. I soon learned this was a rock solid mount and was secure even with my heavy camera gear. I have always been a Arca Swiss quick release fan but am switching all my ball heads over to this quick release. Rock solid and reasonable cost make this quick release a winner. The only issue I have had with this is the short locking handle when shooting video and stills from a dolly or crane but I just put a spacer plate under the mounting plate and problem solved.
A big plus is that when you release the pressure on the plate you have to push the red button on the side to release the quick release plate, something my Arca quick releases do not have. This feature could save your expensive camera should you forget to lock the system together as once the plate is inserted it is locked in to a degree even before you completely lock it down with the lever.

Needed a QR for my CMR Blackbird. This did the job, it's built in spirit levels complimented the ones on the Blackbird. It also works well with existing tripods. The sliding plate works with Manfrotto 357 as well. The handle on the screws is a nice touch. Unfortunately, the first one I bought had a broken pin. I had to get it replaced. The replacement has some leftover burrs but didn't affect after cleaning out. Cheapest assembly you can get with a sliding plate.

I bought this to attach my camera (Panasonic HVX170) to a Pocket Dolly. It works great and is easy to attach. The build quality is solid, and I love the two little bubble levels on it. It's the cheapest quick release assembly i've found. It's cheap, but not cheap!

I shoot video using F3 and EX-1 cameras. I use the M621 to have a consistent quick release system on my tripod, monopod, on a rails system when I need it and on a head reserved for a slider. This allows me to have only one plate (I use the long one) on the camera body and instantly switch to any other mounting system. Very similar to the Manfrotto system, Either is far far cheaper than the more expensive mounts from other manufacturers, and it has been stable enough for my needs. I have done some grinding down on the handle to accomodate different platforms.

Comments about Giottos M621 Quick Release Assembly:
Product is of a very sturdy build quality. Quick release button works well. The tightening screw adjusts smoothly and snugs well. The bubble levels are great for balancing a cheap tripod that doesn't have it's own bubble level. The plate provides a couple ways of mounting it. I used four screws to mount onto a custom shoulder rig; very solid.
The one and only real flaw is the sliding mechanism. The plate is designed to sort-of latch when it's in a centered position. Unfortunately, because of this latching effect, it's near impossible to make fine adjustments of the sliding plate. You either choose center, forward, or back. There's not a lot of play here; when you get towards the center, the plate gets stuck and you have to use a little force to pop it into center position, and do the same to get it to move again.
That said, if you don't need a lot of play in the slider, and just want this for the quick release function, it's a great plate for the price. Sturdy build quality, good mounting options, nice bubble level, but a poor sliding mechanism.
Used with: Canon XH-A1 and custom made shoulder rig.

Comments about Giottos M621 Quick Release Assembly:
Well built although the plate and the base do not fit snug, leaving some play causing jerky tilt when tilting down. Mounting the camera is rather cumbersome due to lining up the plate with the base in order to slide the camera onto the tripod. The "lock" button does nothing whatsoever because it does grip the plate making it secure. I expected more from this brand of quick release. I am going to order another one in hopes the one I already purchased just happened to be a little off. I hope I'm not going to be wasting my money TWICE. I use this quick release on my video tripod.

The build quality is good and I really like the flip up toggle heads on the tightening screws, included with the M621 quick release assembly. The bubble level is fun to approximate level while shooting
I purchased the quick release to fit a couple spare tripods. Giottos had been recommended in a photo forum and I assumed it be compatible with my Manfrotto video slider quick releases. This was not the case. "My Bad" for not checking specifications better. However I will probably get limited use from these assemblies and will be purchasing the manfrotto quick release plates.

I wanted to add a quick release to my ballhead. I've used Giottos products before and after the reviews I read this looked like a good choice.
I'm very happy with my purchase. Will be ordering another one soon.
I would prefer one bulls eye level. On a ballhead the two levels are almost impossible to line up. With a little practice that might change.

The M621 Quick Release Assembly by Giottos is a solid product. Its made of sturdy metal, releases at ease, clamps well, and it also has these rings that fold out so you can turn the screw easily. Also, this is a great deal for the price. Its hard to top this quality for this price. Most other quick release assemblies are around this price, but possibly not of this quality. [...]

combined with two levels, solid and easy locking, the Giotto will work with other manufacturers quick-release plates as well. They even add a 3/8th screw, should you need one.

Well made. Using it to allow easier removal of mixer from video camera. Mixer doesn't have a screw release, so this makes it fast and easy to remove in what would be a more time consuming task.

Comments about Giottos M621 Quick Release Assembly:
I just purchased the Canon T2i, and wanted a stable platform that was quick to disconnect from the tripod. I looked at a lot of reviews, and the Giottos M621 is as good as any of the much more expensive QR plates out there.
It's very sturdy, has multiple connection options, and even has threaded holes to store the bolts you're not using. The bi-directional leveling is also a great feature. So far, I haven't found anything wrong with it, other than that it covers the battery plate on my T2i; this isn't really a con, since the M621 is a Universal plate, not made specifically for the Canon T2i.
It's going to get a workout!

Material is good. I use this QR with my DSLR rig. One adapter is set on tripod. Another I planed to set on my Glidecam 2000 pro. But the main screw appeared to be bigger than the adapter body, so I had to remove the plastic screw handle. Level meter is not very convenient.
