The Elan 7n is the fourth generation of the extremely popular Elan series of cameras. The compact body incorporates a durable metal top plate and a more simplified control layout than the previous Elan and Elan II cameras. Key to the Elan 7's use is its 7-point autofocus system, which has now been improved to be even faster than before. Film transport retains the famed Whisper Drive silence, and 13 custom functions allow the user to have total control.
The Elan 7N now also incorporates the E-TTL II Flash-metering system. When combined with an EX-series flash most Canon professional lenses will provide distance information to the camera, insuring that direct flash exposures are more accurate than ever before.
Other improvements include an upgraded AF system that delivers faster and quiter AF operation, and a new backlit display.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I am still a beginner. . .and still learning how to use the camera. Nature and family photo's have turned out relatively well. I was somewhat disappointed in photo's of the fall colors that I snapped but this probably is attributled to my use of technical aspects of the camera.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
This camera is a good 35mm camera to have in your arsenal. Even though digital has pretty much wiped 35mm off the map, its nice to be able to "think" about how a picture will come out before you take it. I use this for a steady client that always shoots slide film, and the camera handles great, advances film quickly, and the battery life on it is great as well.
Its a good quality, last 35mm camera that will last a long time.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
Im a professional wedding/portrait photographer and use the 7N every week with my EOS 3&1V.This camera is exceptional from the build quality to the features and finally the results (perfect exposed photos)This camera can handle a pro schedule and return pro results. The only negative, Canon is now full into digital and left us film shooters behind. At least they left us left with two top end film bodies Elan 7N & EOS 1V.

-great product for the price. I did not buy the kit however because of other reviews. I purchased the 28-105mm USM af lens. I would definitely recommend this camera.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I purchased this product to replace an older EOS 35mm camera. I wanted to update before film cameras fade out of existance. I took the camera to Colorado to update some previous work and shot over 500 negs in 4 days, mostly lanscapes, animals and nature subjects, with a variety of wide and extremely close shots. The autofocus and metering functions responed as expected. The camera handled very well with just the right weight and balance to complement the Canon EOS 20D I also shoot with.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
If you want to pick up a very good 35mm SLR that is full featured, this is your camera. The great thing is that Canon kept the lens mounts the same so you can use your dSLR lenses or your SLR lenses across all your Canon cameras.
The camera is designed well. Controls are intuitive. The build quality is very good. The camera is a little on the heavy side, especially if you add a Sigma or Tamron lens.
Picture quality so far has been very good. Metering seems to be very good (I have only shot 3 rolls (36 exposure ISO400) film. I really like this camera. So if you want to get back into film or just want to keep a film SLR around for that special occasion, this is definitely a good one.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I use the 7NE for general photography: landscapes, kids' sports, family photos, and more. Never thought I would use eye-controlled focus, but I have it switched on 95% of the time. You get a lot of features for a great price. The controls are very convenient. It's quiet and comfortable, with an accurate meter. Not so great is that it struggles at times to focus in low light. Actually, I have bought the 7NE again - this is my second one.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I've had the camera only 2 weeks but already I love it. I upgraded from a Rebel 2000 to what (I'm presuming) will be my last film camera purchase, and hopefully it will last me decades.
It feels really solid, fairly similar to a 40D. It has a nice big hand grip, and the controls are pretty intuitive, especially if you've owned any other Canon SLR. I'm still learning all the features, and while the camera is, I'm sure, far from the 1V in many ways, it won't disappoint for the price.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
While I have begun using digital cameras, there is still a romance to taking film photos and processing them. I take landscape and nature photos.
I have been looking at this camera for a few years and finally decided to make my last film camera purchase. What a great decision.
The first feature I have come to enjoy is the depth of field feature where I can preview two points in the view finder and the camera will make sure all points in between is in focus. This has been great for canyon and mountain shots.
The eye-controlled focus is fun, though I have not used it as much outside.
The focusing is fast, the camera silent and rugged, and the experience is wonderful.
If you want a last film camera, try this. Oh, and don't forget to refresh your true skills by going manual.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I picked up EOS Elan 7NE a few days ago; I noticed that 35mm film cameras in advanced hobbyist/enthusiast range are getting rare, and I'm a dedicated film shooter. I plan using Elan alongside my trusty AE-1's; I just wanted something more modern, with AF etc. and what won't brake the bank. 7NE definitely fits the bill; I ordered this body with EF 28mm-105mm f3.5-4.5 II USM lens that is supposed to be better then entry-level 28mm-90mm that comes with available Elan 7NE body + lens kit.Camera is feature-packed; luckily the 100-page small booklet manual is well written and consistent in giving enough info to get you going. I'd like to add that the camera is somewhat bigger then I thought, however shouldn't be a drawback by any means. Overall it feels very solid and is easy to hold, controls are well laid out, and I have good feel about it. I shot a test roll of B&W PlusX with it the other day both indoors and outdoors, and it came out decent even on full-auto mode. I also tried the eye-controlled focus, and yes it works as advertised, so I’m glad that I didn’t go with the marginally cheaper 7N model that doesn’t have the eye control feature.[...] I wanted to get a spankin new, 100% functional & dent-free camera so there wouldn’t be any surprises; since the 7NE body is affordable, why not to buy brand new. You may be able to buy dozens of DSLR’s in the future, but not many 35mm film SLR’s remain on the market. Some retailers carry only top of the line professional SLR bodies, overpriced Leica and similar rangefinders, or entry level basic SLR’s. The “advanced SLR” breed is getting harder to find, so why not to grab one right now?

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I purchased this camera because I know I'm going to be doing years of black and white film classes, so a good investment in a camera is a must. I saw all the positive reviews for the Elan 7ne, and so I decided to get it. Its so similar in controls with digital Canon cameras, which is great, especially being able to use lenses inbetween them. Its a sturdy camera that was able to survive a short fall (unlike the lens attached to it though). The eye control feature is very helpful in a situation that you can't take the time to manually change the focus point. There's nothing I see as a CON for this camera, except for the Control Functions which you can only change if you memorized what order they come in, or you keep referencing the manual.

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I'm not a diehard film guy I shoot digital 99% of the time now. That said I love shooting the Elan 7-series SLR. There is just something special about this camera with a roll of slide film. If you own several EF lenses for an Eos digital body you owe it to yourself to have one of these two. It's a rare bread of camera ane well worth every penny.
Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
1996 I learned photography with my Rebel G. Later I discovered the Canon Elan7 and I had to have it, so I traded the Rebel G in for the Elan7 and I was hooked. A few years later and Canon came out with the new Elan7N and like before I traded my Elan7 in for the 7N. What a upgrade!! The body was harden, the AF improved, the display window led up, and the exposure was still great. My friends, in this digital world that has gone far and beyond...I will never give up my Canon Elan7N. It's a great film camera and I love using E6 film with it. (LONG LIVE THE FILM CAMERA)

Comments about Canon EOS Elan 7NE Camera Body:
I bought this camera last year after a ten year hiatus from photography. This camera is wonderful. Doesn't way a ton, so it doesn't kill my neck. Autofocus is smooth and fast, and I like the selectable metering as well as the eye control AF. A lot has changed in those ten years, and definitely for the better! This camera is definitely a good starter camera, and excellent for those out of the profession for a time.
