Comments about Lowel LC55EX Rifa-Lite eX 500 Watt Softbox Light (120-240VAC):
Does everything I need it to do: Sets up and breaks down fast(er than an Arri light with Chimera soft box) and stows easily enough. I've used once for a three-day setup, but I'm not disappointed in it yet.
My only wish is that it had a better counterbalance built in than the one it already has. They sell an accessory balance, but I think they should just make it standard. It matters more on this light and the next size up. The smaller ones don't need it as much.

Comments about Lowel LC55EX Rifa-Lite eX 500 Watt Softbox Light (120-240VAC):
We own several of Lowel's softboxes in various sizes. The fixtures themselves are very reliable and provide a great light source for our video productions. My only complaint is that the front diffuser tends to become fragile after a year of moderate use. Also, don't pack them up until the bulb has cooled enough, otherwise the umbrella will get damaged. Other than that, these light are great. Easy to set up. Nice even lighting. I would definitely recommend an eggcrate to keep light off of your background. The customer service that Lowel provides is worthy of a mention here. They are local to me here on the east coast and provide us with fast, affordable maintenance when needed.

Comments about Lowel LC55EX Rifa-Lite eX 500 Watt Softbox Light (120-240VAC):
This is a great little compact soft light. It's light weight and easier to set up than a chimera but it's a bit delicate so treat it with care. I bought these to light a small green screen but I use them to shoot interviews and just about anytime I need just a bit of fill.

Comments about Lowel LC55EX Rifa-Lite eX 500 Watt Softbox Light (120-240VAC):
I use this lamp in professional video settings, lighting anywhere from one to 4 people effectively. A great, flexible instrument. If I had to bring one light to a shoot, it would be this one.
Compact, quick set-up makes it indispensable. The only drawback I can detail is the tungsten lamp gets real hot, so breakdown can be lengthy as you can't collapse the unit until the 'pistil' cools.

This is a great light for setting up video interviews. I use it for the key light in combination with a bounce card for the fill. It's relatively light weight helps it travel well. For protection, I do suggest buying the travel case or at least packing it in another safe case.

Comments about Lowel LC55EX Rifa-Lite eX 500 Watt Softbox Light (120-240VAC):
The Rifa 55 is lightweight and great for productions where there's only one crew member: me.
I've used it for both interviews and narrative pieces.
Make sure to get the Rifa eXchange Fluorescent 3- Lamp Module. I got the one lamp version, and I'm wishing I had more light.
