If you want to shell out for just one macro lens, you can't go wrong with the Tamron 90mm f/2.8. This lens is so sharp that it is the standard by which many reviewers measure other macros. I use it for manual focus close-up work on a full frame Canon 5D Mark II. While results are very good at f/2.8 and f/16, they are superb from f/4 to f/13; with well balanced sharpness and pleasing contrast and bokeh, and next to no distortion, color fringing or light fall off! It is great to have a lens with such a wide usable range, so that decisions regarding aperture can be based on desired effects and not be hemmed in by performance limitations. Some people don't like the fact that the Tamron is not weather sealed and is mostly plastic, but the trade-off is that it is incredibly light weight, making it easy to handhold without need for image stabilization. There are few bargains to be had in the world of high-grade dSLR equipment, but this is one of them!

Ive had this lens about 3 weeks now and i absolutely love it. i was afraid it would be a challenge for me since it does not have image stabilization, but i havent had any problems.
It is VERY sharp. Comes with a nice bag and lens hood.
It has quickly become my favorite lens and is well worth the money, especially with the current rebate!

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Switching from auto-focus mode to manual is easy with this lens. The procedure is, by far, simpler than fumbling with a switch on the side of the lens to make the conversion. And in macro photography, manual focus is a must! Great attribute. It's also surprisingly light-weight.

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Sure..it does look oddly cheap with its silkscreened painted numbers and name but..where it counts..its extraordinary contrast, resolution and ease of switchng back and forth between auto and manual, it is a winner. It is also an excellent portrait lens on a full frame camera. It would of course be nice for it ito have image starbilisation for general use but for a macro environment image stabilisation does not work in any case. I suggest always use manual for such purposes and magnifiy the image when doing the focus. For most uses however, the auto focus is fast enough thoiugh it is not a ring type focus motor it does the job consistently. If one wants super optics..as good as any lens anywhere, I submit, this is the lens to get. Platic? well sure...Does it matter..never. Plastics are fine for lenses and the idea that metal is superior is left over tech for plumbers. It matters not at all...Drop any lens and it is toast and thus metal or plastic are equally vulnerable and also long lasting. Lightness is what one does get with this nice lens. It is a pleasure to use.

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Read all the reviews and expected good results, but WOW the image quality is extremely good. Yes the auto focus is a bit noisy and at times it will hunt for correct focus. But for the cost and image quality an excellent purchase. I now have 3 Tamron lenses to go along with several Canon L lenses and the image quality on the Tamron's has always been very good. Unless you're wanting to spend more $$ and truly want a Canon USM, you can't beat this 90mm Tamron for image quality.

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I went back and forth on whether to get the 60mm or 90mm Tamron. I'm glad I got this one, the extra focal length is very helpful when you plan on shooting insects. I sought the opinion of a photographer that had both, and he recommended this one. Both have great glass for the cost, the only pro to the 60mm is the internal focus. If you are planning on using the lens for more than macro, like portraits, then I might go for the 60mm. I, on the other hand already have other lens' I use for other things, this is strictly for macro and I'm extremely satisfied.

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
The manual focus ring works great. The pictures are sharp even at 2.8 and the background blur is very easy to control. Yes the auto focus is slow and noisy but I do not use auto often in macro and it is much better in non macro shots. The tests and reviews on this one were very good and if it had USM it would probably be the best 100mm or less. I have been shooting macro shots with regular lenses and having poor results so I finally broke down and bought this one and right out of the box it delivered perfect macro shots of my aquarium creatures. Wish I had got one earlier and not wasted time trying to make regular lenses into macro.

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I bought this lens to start in the world of macro photography. At the time that I bought it I was torn between the Canon 105mm macro and this lens. At first I was scared to order a third party lens, but I didn't really want to pay the extra for the Canon. Once I got it I was absolutly amazed at how much better everything looked through it! Colors are rich and vivid, and she sharpness of the lens is unbelievable. I took some macro test shots and I was just blown away by the detail and quality of the images I was capturing. I also used this lens for my general purpose shooting and again the colors and detail were sharp. I love the way that the lens itself is recessed inside of the barrel, which makes it unnecessary to use the supplied lens hood most of the time.
The focusing system on this lens is awesome and makes me wonder why other companies don't use this clutch type system. All you have to do is slide the clutch up or down to engage/disengage the autofocus. It really is an efficient way compared to the switch method.
The only thing that I do not like about this is the loud and clunky sounding, and slow autofocus. At times it sounds like it is going to break. But that is a small issue to me as I use the manual focus most of the time.
All in all if you are looking to explore the world of macro photography, and don't want to spend a small fortune on a name brand lens then this is for you.
I promise that you will not be dissatisfied with the Tamron 90mm macro!!!

I have the 90 mm macro lens along with other Tamron lens for my T2i Rebel. I like taking macros with it. Overall, it is good lens at a very good price. The auto focus can be a little slow and I have gotten some blurring around the edge of subjects. This sems to happen when changing from manual to auto focus.

I took this lens on an outdoor trip. I have taken great macro shots of insects and flowers. The lens also does well with regular pictures. I have had no difficulties switching between maunual and auto-focus. The auto-focus can be slow but is not really needed when taking macro close-ups. Overall, I enjoy this lens and would recommend this to anyone looking to take macro pictures. A great lens at an affordable price.

This is my first macro lens, so I'm trying to get used to it. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so I go back and forth between auto and manual focus. I like the change from auto to manual using the ring instead of a little switch. The auto focus isn't really the best, but the pictures that are focused where I want them to be are pretty nice.

I'm a part-time hobby/pro/artist who loves to shoot macros, especially floral macros! I've had this lens for over a month now, and it delivers beyond my expectations.
I wanted to add a lens that I could use for floral macro work, plus perhaps do some portraiture with Canon 20D. Portraits aren't my specialty yet, so I cannot comment much on use of this lens for that, but for floral macros, all I can say is WOW! I am very pleased.
The lens has two focus ranges, "Full" and "Limit", which means you can lock the auto-focus in macro or regular ranges. (Handy, but I most often focus manually anyway in the macro world.)
Bottom line: I'm very glad I bought this lens!!

After spending serious money upgrading the kit lens for my camera I did not want to spend a fortune in a macro lens. I already have a Tamron wide angle zoom that I really like so I was familiar with the brand. After doing some research I decided to get the Tamron 90mm f2.8 for macro. This is a great quality lens at a affordable price. Color is great, shap and pretty fast. Tamron has great rebate offers and very good warranty. The lens comes with a bag and hood included. It is amazing how much third party lenses have evolved! Photographers used to frown at them, now they are becoming serious competition for OEM.

Wanted to get into macro photography, so after getting some knowledge and reading reviews on the subject, I decided on the Tamron 90 mm f/2.8 glass for my Canon 40D. I am still in a learning curve with macro shooting, but I must say that the lens is really great for portraiture shots (very sharp).
I try to stay with Canon products as much as possible, but $180 less than the Canon 100 mm is money I can put towards a ring flash.
I recommend this lens to any one looking to start out in macro photography.
An added incentive to this glass over its competitors is that a Lens hood and carrying case are included in the purchase.

Comments about Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I've just recently gotten into macro and am having a blast with it. I like the way the manual to auto focus changes, by pushing or pulling the lens. I'm still trying to get the hang of the auto focus since my eyes just can't be counted on for decent manual focus. The auto focus is a bit of a challenge, but I haven't had the lens long enough to really know what the tricks are. I like the lens though.
