I shoot indoor candids at functions and ceremonies typically taking multiple shots of each person. I just shot the white-coat ceremony of a new medical school class and was shooting non-stop - over 1000 photos in less than half an hour. Hand-holding my Canon 5D with a 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens gets old in a hurry, so went shopping for a monopod. I looked at several makes and models from several vendors (including online auctions - you-know-who) before finding the Canon monopod at B&H and being surprised by the features and good price. It's comparable to several no-name brands and cheaper than brand names I knew. I figured Canon wouldn't put its name on a bad product and I was happy to be proven right. This little gem is compact, light weight, tall enough to be useful even when I'm standing (I'm 6' tall) and the ball head camera mount is very functional. I'm glad I found it.

When I'm shooting a wedding or event, I attach this to one of my camera bodies and hang it on my shoulder. It comes in handy when the light is too low to get a decent shot otherwise. Would also be good for hiking as it isn't too heavy. I'd say it's a good "first monopod" as it can introduce you to the benefits of having one without too much cost or hassle.
Downside, though, is that with a heavier lens/body combo, the mini ball head doesn't lock securely and can flop over if you're not careful. In that case, it takes some care to handle it (always hold your camera rather than just the monopod).

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
Used the monopod for outdoors shots of landscapes and animals.
The telescoping leg adjustments are easy to set up and the mini-ball give respectable view angles.
So far , no problems.

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
Great for the shaky hands crowd. I have a Nikon d40 and d300. I use it mostly with the d40 because I was a little bit leery about the weight of the 300. But it works great with both. Fast set up. Very convenient when you're in a hurry and getting out the old tripod is a hassle. No complaints so far.

Good Quality shafts and locks positively. My son a student in photo journalism says he would like one. Pan/tilt head not necessary for his purposes.

This little Monopod is strong, super light and super small. You won't be disappointed if you need something easy to carry. The locks hold super tight so I have had no slip. The head is very light weight, but good for a couple pounds.

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
I recently decided to purchase the Monopod 100 after careful consideration. To my surpise this item is PERFECT for anyone starting into the DSLR world. (this is my first DSLR) I have already used it with my canon rebel xs 18-55 kit and it is awesome. I actually take pics of my daughters playing volleyball and softball. To my surprise this is an excellent product (sturdy) for the price.[...]

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
By far the best monopod on the market for the price.
The swivel head is usually not found on products in this price range. A must for taking picture or in protrait mode. But price is only half of the value. Quality components and ergonomics from the hand strap to the hand grip make this monpod a real performer.

I use this product for sports and when i need a stick but need it to be mobile. Great stability, ball head works very good also. In addition, the monopod is very easy to expand/collapse, and it is well worth the money. Great stick for [$]. you get what you pay for, and it is good!!

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
When used in the photojournalism field, this little monopod is ideal for getting in & out of the action with as little bulk as possible. It's light weight and small size make it an excellent addition to any backpack or camera bag. It's quick to set up and provides perfect stabilization when a tripod can't be used.
The only thing I don't like about this monopod is, it doesn't have a quick release plate, so you have to unscrew it from your camera before you can do anything else with the camera.

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
I used it as a hiking pole when walking long distance, but without the camera on it, of course. Tri-pods are good if taking long exposure or when you have to be in the picture too, but this is legal in most places as crowded events no longer not allow tri-podsm making them illegal!

Unit is light weight and very versatile. It is very easy to adjust to the needed length. The only drawback I have with the unit is that I wish it had a clip so that I could fasten the unit to my belt when I am not using it.

This monopod is a sturdy construction. I haven't used it much as yet, but it does the job. I got it to primarily to use with my canon hd camcorder which is difficult to keep steady.

Comments about Canon Monopod 100:
I was very happy with this monopod.
One problem: I left it one of the first time out at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens never to be seen again.
The thing that impressed me most about this product was first the price because it comes with a ball head and works better than some of the more expensive models.
The camera slipped a bit, even when tightened but it was not difficult to live with. I put products through rough test and discover the defects of character very quickly.
This one is hard to fault considering the competition. I bought the Canon one to replace it which is the same.
