This lens for the money is ok. I wouldn't consider it as anywhere near the Canon version (24-70 2.8). But I needed this lens in a hurry and thought I could use it for the job at hand and then sell it. The lens performed just fine. I think that I will keep it around for a while.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Great lens! I've used the older model and it's really heavy, noisy, and would have trouble focusing. This model is much lighter, very quiet, and is faster! I'm very happy with my purchase!

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
This len is great as a all around purpose len. I use this as my walk around and portrait len. takes great pictures, and i don't have to swap to a wide angle len so i can fit what i want in the view screen. It is not a substitute for a wide angle but it does help if you don't want a true wide.
Great for Portrait work as well as landscape.

I use this lens for race track work. Lens is slow, I use manual focus which does not satisfy my needs.
I will use it for portraits and some wedding shots.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
This is a well built lens with a reasonable price! The 24-70mm f/2.8 L Series may be nicer but it costs about 3 times as much as this lens. This lens has worked great in low light photos I've done and also at weddings in churches. Also, the minimum focusing distance is 13" which makes it focus close enough for some nice pictures of flowers and other small objects. Autofocus also works great on stationary objects, AI Servo autofocus on the other hand is not good, and as mentioned in other reviews the photos do tend to have a yellow cast to them. The focus also tends to be soft when its wide open. So if you don't want to fork out the money for the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L Series lens and want a nicer and "faster" lens then this lens is perfect.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I recently purchased this lens and so far it does everything I could want from it. It is well balanced on my Canon 50D body and the fast f/2.8 aperture is constant throughout the zoom process from 28-70mm. That was the main reason I bought the lens. The only thing that is not so great is that images are a little soft at f/2.8 when at 28mm. Stopped down a couple stops it is very good. Some of the other reviews that I read said it was loud focusing but mine is very quiet. Sigma has discontinued this lens. You can't get anything near it for the price. If you are interested get one before they are gone.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I bought this lens to replace my 18-55 kit lens. It does the job very well. Very solid build. Very good image quality. I really couldn't be happier. I considered buying the 24-70L but after reading all the good reviews about this, bought it instead. There's just no point paying three times a much for the L lens. I've taken the lens all over the country in just the past month. It has never disappointed me. The pictures all turn out great.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I bought this lens to shoot sports and weddings mostly. I was so unhappy. The first time I used this lens, every picture was blurry. I takes the lens several tries to autofocus and even then...doesn't always work. I'm really not happy at all. I should have saved my money and bought the Canon one...even though its double the price.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I keep this lens on my camera (Rebel XTi) almost all the time, and use it for almost everything. It's fast enough to catch my kids in action, very good in low light, and also create great bokeh for portraits. It can get a little heavy so holding it for long periods of time can get tiring. I highly recommend this lens.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
The images produced with this lens are sharp and detailed almost beyond belief, and there is little or no distortion throughout the zoom range. It has a sturdy and solid feel, the only slightly irritating physical feature being an inconstant tension on the zoom ring.
There are two significant flaws. Firstly, the images are over warm and contrast is too high. This isn't as easy to correct digitally as one might think. Secondly, autofocus is poor. The lens often 'searches' and when it eventually does settle down, gets the focus wrong. This of course completely negates the inherent sharpness of the lens.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I bought this lens roughly 1.5 years ago. I use it specifically for portrait shots.
This lens has a VERY slow autofocus motor, and it is rather loud. I used it during some weddings, and it was almost too loud at times. Waiting for the focus to catch up, you either miss the event or end with an out of focus picture.
I compare this lens to a few canon lenses I own and really, the sharpness and saturation are not up to par.
I bought this lens to save the $600+ and now I am buying a canon. You really wouldn't believe the difference between the canon lens and the sigma. I am upgrading to the Canon 24-105 f4 IS. Smaller aperature, wider at one end and narrower at the other - great reviews though. I hope I like it.
I gave this three stars only because of the price. It never failed, it didn't break, the images are ok. I want better though. Make the motor faster, quieter. Oh, and it seems to me that I get WAY MORE lens abberation when using this lens than with my other lenses. If I loved it, I wouldn't be spending $960 on a new lens.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
The Canon 24-70 costs three times as much as this glass, but surely it doesn't give images three times better! The price tag is fine enough, and the lens is sure sharp - at least the copy I got is flawless. It's a bit heavy and the AF is noisy, but those issues can be easily forgotten once you see the results this lens can provide you with. It seems and feels rock solid too.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I'm an advanced amateur. I needed a fast, everyday lens. It allows for f2.8 at all focal lengths, is solid yet easy to adjust rapidly, and the images are sharp. I'm very happy with this purchase. As with all lenses, the extreme 2 apeture stops are a bit less sharp than the other apertures.

More than half the time with this lens my images are out of focus. That once in a lifetime shot gone forever because this lens does not perform. I previously owned the 24-70mm from Sigma and it was much more reliable, save up your pennies and buy that one instead.
