Logitech has created the Z-5500 surround sound speaker system. With innovative driver technology the new, larger 10" long-throw subwoofer driver with flared bass port delivers 188W of thunderous bass while the system is made up of polished aluminum phase-plug satellites combined with two drivers into one. This technology offers the clarity of a tweeter with the richness and fullness of a separate mid-range. The digital SoundTouch control center lets you control the volume to all speakers, set inputs and much more.
You can simultaneously connect 6 audio sources including PCs, video game consoles, DVD, CD and portable music players, while controlling it all from the digital SoundTouch control center. The Z-5500 Digital is one of a select few speaker systems that meets the rigid standards for unparalleled THX-quality sound. The Z-5500 Digital includes a hardware DTS decoder for master-quality sound and also includes support for DTS 96/24, an enhanced, higher-resolution, studio-quality format available on many DVD video and DVD Audio discs.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I have two of the Logitech Z-5500 systems. One on the computer and one on the new HDTV. I've heard friends systems (1000W systems) that don't have near the quality sound that this system has. If I had to make a "con", it would be that I'd like to see this system have a version that includes the software I use on the computer for the 'effects'. Highly recommend this system.[...]. And the price was very very good.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I have the Z 5500 hooked to my PC with 6 channel. It totally shames my old Bose stereo. The remote is useless beyond 8 feet (but, who needs it?)

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
Waited almost 5 years before buying my first set. Less then 2 years later I bought my second set. First set is for main computer and the second pair goes with the main TV in the house. Optical output from TV to Z-5500 means audio is switched automatically to follow which HDMI is in use. LOVE IT! Great way around another huge receiver box next to the TV.
Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I use it for both computer speakers and home theater. Even a youtube music video can be played through your computer and fill a 4000 square foot building (which I do).
Even though there are separate digital controls for the subwoofer , you need to press buttons to get it on the screen. Old fashioned knobs for these functions would be better.
I wouldn't recommend them for a DJ. Controls for treble don't exist and knobs or slide controls would be quicker and more intuitive.
Once you adjust things for an individual song, the sound is superb.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I installed this system at my bedroom workstation for listening to music, watching videos, and playing games. The sound is more than loud enough, and the bass is powerful enough to be felt. The sound is crisp and clear without any trace of distortion (I'm using a TOS link cable to avoid interference) at all volume levels. It's a pricey system, considering I could build a 5.1 setup from parts with more power for less cost, but the feature set and magnetic shielding are well suited to a PC environment.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
This system is amazing. I was looking for a system that could put out a lot of sound and have it be clean at high volume. This system delivered exactly what I wanted and more. The ability to separately adjust the surround, main, and bass allows for optimum listening experience.

This system is easy to set up, not overly expensive, and absolutely outstanding quality. This is my first 5.1 system and I couldn't be happier. I would highly recommend this to gamers or anyone who uses their computer for media entertainment.

I love this sound system. It sounds great and playing video games is great. You hear the shells when they blow up. Has so much power it will hurt your ears if you turn it all the way up. I only turned mine 1/2 way and it will rock your world.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
Got these here at B&H on a recommendation from a friend who's had this speaker system since 2005 and has had NO problems whatsoever. I got this system to play music / HULU from my computer, music from my iPod, and audio from my HDTV. Overall, this speaker system has a great midrange, accurate powerful bass, adequate highs, and a great onboard digital decoder for all 3 types of inputs. Even though these speakers are rated at 10% THD, the bass sounds much less bass distorted and less overpowering than the klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers I had before.
PROS:
• very versatile, plays music from iPod, computer, audio from HDTV
• plays all types of music great all the way from rap / hip-hop to classical
• 500 watt subwoofer looks big but it's there only when you need it and blends nicely sound wise with the 5x 100 watt satellite speakers
• satellites produce a great midrange with adequate highs
• digital optical AND digital coaxial AND stereo inputs let you connect multiple devices
• onboard digital decoder does a decent job of decoding Dolby Digital 5.1 movie sound
CONS:
• wall mounting these speakers is a pain - you either need a very narrow and long screwdriver or an "L" shaped screwdriver to tighten the screws that affix the speaker brackets to your wall. You'll also want to put washers over the screw holes in the speaker brackets so the screws adequately hold everything in place.
• speakers only rotate one direction on pedestals so it was hard to position the rear channels the way I wanted them
• would be nice if it remembered the volume setting as well as the effect setting for each input
• rear speaker wire that comes with this might not be long enough for some people (only 25ft)
Side Notes:
I put a foam pad under the sub woofer which reduced floor vibrations and improved bass performance. This is especially important if you have hardwood floors. As always with any speaker system, the room environment has a LOT to do with sound quality. Lots of reflective surfaces and hard wood floors will make your sound echoey. It's best to have carpeted floors and curtains on the walls to make the room acoustically neutral. Also, it's important to note that audio source quality has a great deal to do with perceived quality of a speaker system. Also, don't fall for the snake oil sales tactics of retail sales people and over pay for your audio cables / accessories. I got my 6ft optical toslink cable for about $2, my stereo cable for about $2, and 50ft of 18 gauge speaker wire for about $6 and the sound quality is great with no connection / bad component issues.
it's also worth noting that speaker technology hasn't gotten any better over the past 10 years, so don't wait for a new model of a speaker system to come out because chances are it will be almost identical to the current model anyways.
Conclusion:
I'd recommend this speaker system to people who want to use it with multiple devices (iPod, HDTV, computer, etc.) AND to those who don't want to shell out $100-$300 extra for a preamplifier / home theater receiver. If you already have a good preamplifier / home theater receiver, there are better speakers out there in this price range (you can run a stereo or toslink cable from your home theater receiver / preamplifier to your computer). I would have gotten the Energy Take 5 speaker system if I'd already had a home theater receiver. But for the versatility, value, and wealth of features, the Z-5500 5.1 system is hard to beat.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I had been looking to upgrade my Bose 2.1 stereo to a 5.1 system for SS video editing. I read the reviews here and immediately purchased the Logitech unit.
But, having had the Bose system for three years I must say that I was spoiled. The Logitech speakers are a little blaring at flat EQ settings, so you'll want to tweak them with your machine's EQ to get the right sound. GREAT bass response that is easily adjusted from the controller. You'll notice the differences between songs and will want to make changes. The sub-woofer is about the size you'd expect for a decent bass response.
My only complaints are that the audio controller is a little large and the adjusting knob is not very smooth to turn. Also the I/O for headphones and MP3 players is on the side and should be relocated to the front face of the controller at the bottom.
And while you're at it add ten (10) feet of wire to the rear speakers, make the mid/high speakers smaller and add a dimmer to the control head. I don't need a nightlite in my studio.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I picked up this set to replace my aging 75 watt rms 5.1 system. Let me say, before even opening the box it was apparent that it was high quality.
Very well packaged!
First thing I noticed after the box was opened was the size of the sub. It's very large, quite heavy, but very sturdy.
One major plus was the design of the connecting pieces for the satellite speakers. They are designed to allow you to use your own speaker wire if you wish to run them along the walls and hide them. Though I can't speak much on that as the wire provided was more than enough to satisfy my needs for a speaker system.
The control module is a very nice touch, very stylish, however, the module is limited in distance to where the sub-woofer is placed. That's taken care of by the nifty remote control though.
Being computer speakers I decided to test them out on a few movies. Very crisp, very clear! Even at a somewhat high volume setting there is nearly no distortion.
I also gave these a try in a few games on the pc - perfect quality sound. They have brought new life into games which sounded dull and bland on my old speakers.
Overall, were they worth the money? Definitely! It took me nearly 3 months to decide to purchase them and that itself was 3 months too long!

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
I have attached these speakers to my blu-ray player, HD-DVR AND Xbox. All I have to do is press a button, and it changes the input.
The signal to noise ratio is awesome. I could not hear any noise - full volume without input and no buzzing at all! Frequency Response is good for the full range.
Awesome sound quality. When playing music at high volume it feels like I'm in a club. When properly installed - makes you feel like in the movie / game.
Easy to install, attractive and sleek looking, easy to operate, lots of effects (ex. You can listen to Stereo Sound from all 4 channels, not just front left & front right), supports all common codecs.
And best of all - it isn't expensive! I couldn't hear difference between these and $1200 Bose (but maybe its just me).
Things that are great about it:
Everything!
Things that aren't so great about it:
Nothing.

I use these speakers for editing movies and they are great quality speakers for the price. The subwoofer is enormous, but pumps out a powerful bass. I am very pleased with the quality of sound output in the mids and lows... although the highs may drop out. But its not very noticeable with most songs or sound bites.

This is a great system for a college student. More importantly is B&H and their customer support. The system was very well package, It was unbelievable how well packaged it was. Never the less, one of the speaker bases was broken. Once I emailed B&H the problem they quickly responded. I sent them the broker speaker and within 5 days I have a replacement. This is not the first time I purchased from B&H and it is not the last (Nikon 7000 is on my mind)

I didn't really grasp the size of the speaker system I purchased, once it arrived I saw the subwoofer was enormous and was very powerful. It also also came with five unique speakers and one digital control, the digital control was awesome, it really lets you control the depth of the bass, where you want the sound to go and effects of your sound. It is a very powerful system that can be used anywhere except large open spaces, besides that its good enough for a house party! The only part I don't like is the subwoofer is heavy and huge, if only something of a reduced size could create such a punch, then that would be amazing.

Comments about Logitech Z-5500 505W 5.1 Surround Computer Speaker System:
This system is a great choice for playing music, videos, or movies. Easy straight forward setup with a very nice control module for setting-up and adjusting to your personal preferences. Cords and wires are long enough to provide a lot of flexibility setting the system up. Only 1 irritating flaw that prevented a 5 star rating. The rear speakers are not designed/setup for mounting on speaker stands (I made them work). They are designed to sit on a flat surface or be wall mounted.
