The 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX lens is exclusively designed for use with Digital SLR cameras, and provides a super wide-angle zoom range, ideal for the tightest of interiors, as well as for dramatic landscape photography.
This lens features the exclusive "Focus Clutch Mechanism", a signature of the Tokina PRO series lenses which provides a faster, smoother autofocus operation with a smooth manual focus action not normally found in autofocus lenses.
Two Aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design, to correct for spherical aberrations. It also incorporates internal focusing to prevent deterioration of the optical quality at close distances and to eliminate rotation of the front barrel during focusing.
Note: Use of this lens is NOT recommended with 35mm film or digital "full-frame" cameras.
Note: Equivalent focal length in 35mm terms when used on a digital camera is 18-36mm.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
Consider price vs speed. The images are sharp and fast. Works excellent on a Canon 30D, 40D. Worked on a Canon 5D MKII but only at 24MM, other ranges work but have the circle crop from the small rear element.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I had, in the past, owned the Canon 10-22mm lens, which I thought was a fantastic lens. I decided to purchase to Tokina 12-24mm for Canon mount as an alternative to the 10-22 Canon. As others have stated, it is a solid build, albeit a little on the heavy side.
At 12mm, it is sufficiently wide, but I really missed having the 10mm capabilities. It is a significant difference from 10 to 12mm.
I also felt that it was a little bit soft/not as good when shooting in lower light (even at 1/60-1/100 shutter speeds). Overall, I like this lens, but probably would pay the extra for the Canon 10-22mm if given the opportunity.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
Solid, well built, balances nicely in the hand. Everything works smoothly.
It's not quite as sharp as I'd like for critical work, but in counterpoint it has far less barrel distortion and color fringing than I'd expected.
Bottom line: I got what I paid for. It's a superbly built, well-controlled nine-tenths lens, and can get shots that can't be done otherwise, for much less money than the Canon equivalents.
But the gotta-be-perfect shots will require another approach. This isn't the lens for that kind of work.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I bought this to mess around with and to do some interior jobs. It fits the bill. Its sharp enough and the AF is moderately fast. Its not L glass but the photos ive gotten out of it are extremely crisp. The only gripe i have with this lens is the front element hits the tiffen filters i put on it when its at 24mm. Only tiffen's though.

Very well built, and a very sharp lens. Lens flare is a problem on this lens, but the newer one is supposed to be better.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
This is a great lens for landscape and architectural photography. The constant aperture is adequate for outdoor use, only slightly soft at f/4 but sharp from f/5.6. Colors are more vibrant and contrasty than Canon lenses. CA is noticeable but easily correctable.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
i got this lens around july 4th to fill the void of a wide angle lens. i was looking at the canon 10-22 for a while, which seemed to be the only real option at the time. after doing just a little bit of research i found this little gem. it took a lot of online reviews to convince me to get it over the canon but i thought "why not"?
after a lot of testing and a lot of on the field action i can soundly say i am very happy with the tokina 12-24. you can split hairs and say it has a minor Vinette at 12mm and that it isnt as wide as the 10mm but honestly, unless you are taking pictures of a white/brick walls you wont notice anything.
i am very happy with the flare control on the lens and i am very happy with its solid build. the image is crisp and will give you a desirable shot.
if i had to split hairs i would say testing my friends canon 10-22 against my 12-24 the canon has the edge (very very slightly) in a few categories (duh), but for the value, the build and the overall picture quality you get from this lens, you cant go wrong. you will not be able to tell the difference between the two lenses with the majority of pictures you take.
if you are on the fence about this lens and have to worry about your pocket book, get this lens. both the canon and tokina lens are great and i am not even close to disappoint that i didnt shell out the extra cash for the 10-22mm.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I really enjoy this lens, and for the price you can't beat it. Sometimes my camera takes a minute to focus with it, but I love this lens. Some people have said tough to attach, but I had no problem with that at all. Everything about it is a breeze.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I'm using this lens for landscapes, architecture and indoors photography. It produce sharp contrast images. Auto focus is fast (not much to do anyway) and reliable. Manual focus switch is easy to use.
Build quality is excelent.
You fill the weight of the lens, but it's not heavy.
Only two weaknesses: Susceptible to flares - included hood usually helps. And sometimes purple fringing on wide end, but that could be corrected in post processing.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
This is really a great lens. I can't believe the price. The photos are quite a step up from what I have been taking. The extra-wide angle lens gives you great range for up close or landscape photos. It is a bit heavy, which is a bit of a problem for me, because I take it on alpine climbs. However, it is worth it for the photos I take back. It does distort at the extreme edges but I hear that is typical.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I wanted to experiment with Ultra Wide Photography and proceeded to do some research about wide angle lenses for crop cameras (I use a Canon 40D) and came across with the Tokina 12-24 AT-X124 PRO DX f4
I got the original 12-24 against the newer DXII version as I use Canon and don't need the internal motor for AF as some Niikon ccameras, although the DXII mention that it carries a new lens coating to enhance flare rejection.
This lens is just fantastic, extremely sharp across de Focal range even wide open at f4, images are sharp and vibrant.
AF speed is more than fast enough, is not USM, but for a wide angle lens is plenty fast and precise.
Is built like a tank and the clutch mechanism to select Auto or Manual focus works very nice.
I thought about Sigma's 10-20 as is 10mm on the wide end,but so far I haven't missed the 2mm wider at all, plus all the reviews conclude that the Tokina is sharper making the Tokina a better value for me .
Overall I am enjoying the ultra wide experience.
I recommend this product to anyone who wants a quality Ultra Wide Lens.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I just got back from a three-day whirlwind trip to Hawaii. Before I went, I bought the Canon 24-105 F4L lens, but throughout the trip, I found that the Tokina 12-24mm F4 AT-X was my "go to" lens. Image quality was superb, rivaling the L Series lenses and in my opinion, superior to the Canon EF-S 10-22mm. Focus was fast and tack sharp. Colors were vibrant yet accurate. At times, there was minor CA, however it was easily corrected in post production.
The lens is solidly built. It is not a light lens, but no high quality lens will be. It takes a lot of glass to make a good lens, and the optics on this lens are outstanding.
Summary:
IQ on par with L Series, and better than EF-S Series lenses (IMHO)
Fast, tack-sharp focus
Solid construction & superb optics
Minor CA
It is simply the best landscape lens I have owned. Oh! And it is hundreds of dollars cheaper than either of the two Canon lenses. If only it was F2.8 and had image stabilization …

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I use 17-50mm 2.8 for architectural photography which is a great lens. But I usually find myself in a small room where I could not move back and wanted super wide angle. I had a limited budget and wanted something extra wide. I had an option between sigma and tokina, Canon was too expensive. The constant aperture of tokina at all focal lenghts made this lens really good. The results are better than expected. Very good lens.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
I use this lens primarily for landscape photography. It's super wide ability has added a new dimension to my photographs that I was unable to get with any other lens I have. It produces sharp images, is sturdy, and not overly heavy in my bag so it is a lens that comes with me all the time. Recently used it to photograph the Great Falls (outside Washington DC) at sunrise and sunset and got stunning results.

Comments about Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens:
Own this lens for a week and the first impression you unpack the lens is the excellent built quality. Is a heavy lens for walk around but you will fell very confident compare to the kit lens.
I am impress with the silent and fast focusing system and is more than what I aspected for the price I pay. Switching to manual focus is very simple for this lens.
The picture is sharp and slight distortion at 12mm focal length. Is an excellent lens and I will strongly recommend for those with tight budget. The only draw back is this lens could catch dust easily. Would recommend a protector filter to go with it.
