This is a Sony PHDVM-63DM DVCAM DigitalMaster Mini DV Cassette. It is compatible with any mini-DV or DV camcorder or VTR. This tape contains two magnetic layers that improve the carrier-to-noise ratio and produce 90% fewer errors than traditional DV tape. When recording in 16:9, more information is recorded versus 4:3 and there is greater possibility for errors. DigitalMaster reduces that risk by 90%.

Comments about Sony DigitalMaster Mini (63 min HDV, 41 min DVCAM):
This is my first time purchasing any equipment for my Canon GL2 Camcorder. I didn't know if these tapes would work, so I took a big risk. I ordered 4 of the Sony DigitalMaster 63 min miniDV tapes, and I must say these tapes are by far the best miniDVs I've ever owned. The playback quality is flawless and HD, my camcorder is a Standard Definition. When I record my footage, the recording quality really improves my Camcorders recording capabilities, by NOT producing any dropouts, any lagging, any interference, and allows me to record footage exactly how I see it through the lens of my camcorder. I highly recommend these rare miniDV tapes to anyone looking for the best HD recording miniDVs on the planet! These tapes ARE COMPATIBLE for my Canon GL2 miniDV camcorder, and these tapes do WORK BETTER THAN ANY OTHER MINIDV tape out there! The tapes are also easy to use.

We could order a lower cost tape, but the quality of this tape helps us deliver a quality video product to our clients. Other tapes often suffer from drops and skipped frames that effect the quality. I have not noticed the same issue with this tape.

If you want the best master digital recording use the SONY DVCAM Master Digital Cassettes. Don't skimp on quality and always buy from B&H - that is who I use!

Some HDV cameras just need good tapes. I experienced a large amount of dropouts with regular tapes. Once upgrading to these higher end tapes the dropouts stoped. For anything professional you can't use anything but these.

I use these tapes to record my wife's dance recitals and I only get one shot, so if the tape breaks up, like the 90 minute tapes did last year on me, I have several hundred angry parents! They are a good quality, reliable tape and handle different lighting and colors well!!!!

This is simply THE best HDV/DVCAM/Mini-DV tape on the market. I use this tape for camera originals, masters, sub-masters, and everything in between.

Comments about Sony DigitalMaster Mini (63 min HDV, 41 min DVCAM):
I own a videography company and we film many different events. Many events, such as weddings, we use our Sony PD-170 for the low light capabilities on our smaller packages that do not include HD. We switched to these tapes looking for better quality than the premium blue brand of Sony Mini-DV tapes. The moment we started downloading, I could see a difference in sharpness and color. However, not one that would make it comparable to HD, but still noticeably better. I didn't notice a few drop frames towards the end of one tape, however the rest were perfect all the way through. I have been told that the tape gets thinner towards the end, so we started changing the tapes when we had about 5 mins left on them. The cost is much higher than the premiums, but in our eyes, worth it. We had more than one small drop frame on the premiums, plus the quality just adds to our products. The cases they come in are much more durable too.

Comments about Sony DigitalMaster Mini (63 min HDV, 41 min DVCAM):
I've been eyeing these tapes for some time, but stayed clear because of their price. We recently had a location shoot where I needed to make certain everything went as smoothly as possible. I did some quick test shots with my subjects and a color card and found the Master Digital Cassette by Sony to have a much more focused color presence on the waveform generator. The black levels were also much deeper and again more focused that the standard DV tapes we had been using.
Our film shoot was a desert shot which beat us and the equipment up quite a bit, but the tapes stayed true and I didn't have any dropped frames.
Overall, for the project that demands a little bit more than normal, I'd say go for these tapes. They have much more accuracy in their color and have been very stable to work with.

When you can't afford a tape problem, use this! I have used this exclusively in my Sony HVR-A1U. I have never had even one tape issue. No drop outs, no pixleation. For personal use, like recording Ballroom dance lessons, I use them over and over! For professional use, I use new tapes for each event.

A versatile DV/DV Cam/HD tape, this professional quality MiniDV is a great way to WOW your clients when producing professional content on Mini DV tape format. Stand this box next to a regular Mini DV box, and the impression is, "That's the Cadillac right there!" The video quality is superb. No static, no gliches, no drop frames. You get the picture...No pun intended!

I use this tape in the Sony HVR-V1u. I shoot a variety of stuff from Shorts, music videos and live performances.
I've used the other cheaper Sony "HDV" tape and had dropouts. The camera came with one of these tapes and after the dropouts on the others, I now stick to these. So far so good.
