I actually used this light this weekend for a wedding. I was amazingly impressed by it. First of all, it's affordable for a tight budget, and since I already owned 2 extra Sony NP-QM71D batteries this was a no brainer. I hate lugging around a heavy battery pack the entire reception. The 1 light option I used pretty much all night long, just enough light and not too overpowering. A couple of times I used 2 lights for a far shoot. The light is a nice bright white and is good for a white balanced clean image. I used the omni boune flash cup for interviews since standing a few feet from the light was to bright even when using 1 light. The interviewers were very appreciative. It produced a soft glow. Coverage for the light in all shooting in widescreen was great. Okay, downside: cutting the light on and off tricky. Switch a little irritating. Takes 4 seconds to actually come on. Can't adjust the angle of the light. But can hold it in your hand and point it in any direction which is great since no cords. All in all an excellent investment. Thank u Sony for a great product.

I purchased this item years ago, and it worked great for me for a long time. It got broken on a shoot. I bought another, and I highly recommended it to co-workers, who also purchased it. They arrived, and the bottom light doesn't work. We returned them, and had the same problem- thus it appears that it is a manufacturing problem.
I sent mine back to SONY, explaining the problem, and that there seemed to be a problem with the current batch in the warehouse. I asked them to fix mine, or to make sure that they sent me a working product. They sent me a brand new sealed product, and it has the same problem. It has been very frustrating working with SONY, and the problem is still not resolved after a couple of months.
BETWEEN THE 2 OF US, WE HAVE DEALT WITH 4 OF THESES LIGHTS ALL HAVING THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM.
DON'T BUY THIS ITEM UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED.

Very clear and luminous. A solid white light, now yellow aura. Great in situations with absolutely no light.

I use this light in combination with the Sony NP-QM91D, M Series, Info-Lithium, Battery Pack. For some reason when I hit the on button (at 10 or 20 watt) there is a 3 second delay. This is a bit annoying if you're shooting a party and need the light on to record live action. At a wedding, it's not so critical. I really love the 10 vs 20 watt option. 10 watts are usually enough but 20 really lights the place up. Lastly, the light is a bit hard, so I tape wax paper to the front of it as a diffuser.

Indoors you really need a full spectrum light for good quality video. I purchased this light specifically for the tripod mounting bracket. My new Sony HD video camera has a new, proprietary mount and will not accept a standard flash mount. With this bracket you can mount the flash on either side of the camera. The light accepts 3 batteries, small, medium and large. Please be aware that these batteries are heavy and unbalance the camera. If I put the light on the left side the package is very lopsided and forces you to keep the LCD display closed. If I put the light on the right side it cramps the space for your hand. The NP50 battery is small and light but only lights one of the ten watt lights. I use the NP71 which is heavy but works both lights. The NP91 would give longer life but is probably just too heavy, better to use two NP71's. My previous camers was not HD and this light was wonderful. Wonderful for me and the video but everyone hated when I pointed the light in their face. With the HD camera the light pattern is not suited for the 16:9 format so you must zoom in a little bit to get full frame coverage. I hope the next generation of this light addresses this coverage problem.

I use this light hand held and it is a great fill light. I have a piece of soft frost taped on the front for diffusion because it is too harsh otherwise. The only other problem is that the switch is difficult to work and there is an extremely long delay before the light actually lights up.

I film weddings and needed a light for the late nights. I had used the Sony 20DW2 in the past with a colleague and that proved to be successful. I don't know what the difference between that light and this other than the battery types they use. I purchased this one even though the package for the 20DW2 was cheaper because I still would have had to spend another $90 on the batter charger. This battery charger was cheaper so I went with this model.
I've only used the light once and it didn't give me any problems. It did eat through the battery in maybe 3 hours on its first use. I'm afraid at how quickly it will die when the battery gets older. I assume that maybe the other version has better battery life. The on/off switch is annoying and difficult to get used to as others have said.
I looked for a long time. This light gives you options of power which is great so you know that you can turn it down if it feels like you are blinding people. I really wish it had a dimmer, but some one starting out with not a huge budget this seems to be a good investment.

Great for both indoor and outdoor use, illuminates shadows on faces really nicely without blowing out the shot. The extension bar is quiet useless as you can't screw another shoe to it.
