The Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone is designed for professional audio capturing in the field or indoors. With a history of manufacturing quality studio microphones, Rode has implemented low noise output electronics and wide bandwidth, both of which attribute to the NTG-1's broadcast sound quality.
The supercardioid polar pattern and line plus gradient acoustic principle effectively minimize audio and noise at the off-axis (sides) of the microphone, while the front of the capsule accurately reproduces incoming audio signal. The result is greater intelligibility and signal-to-noise ratio while using the NTG-1 in noisy environments.
The NTG-1 is powered with an external +48 Volt phantom power source; the output is a standard 3-pin XLR male connector.
The microphone features a rugged, all metal, light weight enclosure that is ideal for camera mounting yet durable enough to withstand the rigors of heavy road use. The Rode NTG-1 is packaged with a microphone stand mount and windscreen.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
Great shotgun mic for interviews and on camera. I use it in conjunction with my Canon XF100 and have had no problems with it.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I have a dslr camera and use it for interviews and making short films. This mic is slightly shorter than most shotgun mics which is nice because I can fit it in my camera bag. The sound quality is top notch for this price range. It is this only mic I am aware of with a full 20hz to 20khz range in its class.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I use this shotgun to supplement the on-camera mic on my DVX-100a. I like it's range and reach, and the anti-shock mount that comes with the mic is a definite plus. Even with a wind screen it remains out of the field of vision of the lens. The 90° XLR connection helps to keep the cable from being an obstruction.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I use this with my Sony HDR-AX2000 and it is a great improvement over the camera's built in mic, as one might expect. The windscreen it comes with is quite nice and very useful, but I would also recommend a good "dead cat" for more windy conditions. I bought Rode's Deluxe Windshield, which works great and is designed with the NTG-1 specifically in mind (and cost only $20 more than a similar Pearstone model).I most recently shot a piece with this mic and dead cat combo in a park on a windy day and the sound quality was fantastic.Another advantage of this mic is that it is shorter than many in its class such as its slightly bigger cousin, Rode's NTG-2 which is otherwise the same but accepts an internal battery for power. I've found the NTG-1 only draws about 15 minutes worth from my camera battery which I don't think is too significant so I'm glad I went with it over the slightly more expensive NTG-2.Quite simply, there is no mic better in the price range. [...] I am very pleased with the results.

I use this on my Panasonic AF100 to capture nat sound mostly at weddings and or backup sound or close shot interviews. It is VERY sweet sounding. I did not expect it to sound so great until after I heard it in the editing bay. Feels very strong and doesn't appear to be cheaply manufactured.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
A great little microphone that performs exceptionally well in outdoor conditions even with only the included windscreen.
Perhaps consider buying a 'dead cat' to improve performance or reduce its sensitivity to wind.
I am fully satisfied with my purchase.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I used it for a conference recording the Mayor give a speech. I was also plugged into the board, but that audio was unusable. Thank goodness for this mic. It picked up everything, even the questions being asked by the crowd that did not have mics. This is a very sensitive mic and it records good quality sound. Picks up echo in the room though, of course.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
Bought the mic to use as an On-camera mic for a PDW-f800. Can't go wrong for the money. Only drawback is it might be too long to use on the Viewfinder mount of a Black and white viewfinder. The end lines up with the end of my Wide Angle lens, not an issue unless you add the Fuzzy windsock....then the Fuzzy creeps into view if windy.... Body mounted in the F800 and it should be moved back an inch or two....

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I used to use lav mics for interviews and such, but to be honest they are no good compared to a good shotgun like this one. It picks up great and the audio quality is far superior to any other mic for the price! I think this mic is absolutely worth the money! Especially if your doing interviews, this mic will give you excellent sound for a manageable price. No lav mic around the same price range will give you a better sound. This is a great choice. Here's some videos on which I used this mic:[...]

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I purchased the NTG-1 to use on a Panasonic HMC40 for environmental and close-range isolated audio-for-video. Having used several R0DE products in the past, I've been consistently pleased with their build quality and performance.
I chose the NTG-1 over the NTG-2 because I am always operating in an environment with phantom power, and did not need the on-board power ability (and the extra body length that comes with it).
Buyers should note that both the NTG-1 and NTG-2 have a bass roll-off switch, but they call it different things on the two specs pages here. This was a critical point for me, but I was able to confirm that both units indeed have the switch, even though the spec page on the NTG-1 here was not entirely clear.

I use this mic on my Sony EX1-r as a replacement mic for the on camera mic. I use it with a shockmount and a dead cat when needed. It does a good job of picking up nat audio and some interview audio at a close range with little ambient noise going on.

I needed an upgrade in sound quality and wondered what a phantom mic would do. For under $300, the Rode gave me a very noticeable improvement in sound over the standard camera mic.

I bought the mic to use for Video/Audio Podcast Conversations/Interviews. The mic picks up great audio and is very versatile. I can mount it to the hotshoe, or on a boom. Depending on the circumstance, it's a pretty great all around mic.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I used this mic on the production of the movie Slow Fade and was extremely impressed by how well it worked in picking up the smallest details. The only negative side to having a powerful mic like this is that it will pick up a lot of ambient sound as well. It does not work as well in large crowds, streets or anywhere else that you may want to pick up specific sounds without getting a whole lot of ambient.
