For use with the Nikon FM3a, FM2, FE2 & FA cameras, the DK-3 eyecup enhances your viewing by minimizing the stray light that could enter the viewfinder.

This is a good eyecup, it really helps you focus on the subject without distracting light. It's easier to use if you don't wear eyeglasses, (this applies to all eyecups), because the separation between your glasses and eye will still allow stray light to enter anyway. If you kind of press your eye into it it definitely helps cut down a lot, though, so it's not a complete waste. This also is fully compatible with Nikon's diopters because the eyecup fits around it.
The major downside, at least on the FE2 which I own, is that once attached you really can't easily pull your notes or film info from the memo holder at the back because the eyecup covers part of that. On the other hand, the eyecup is pretty easy to remove so it's not really a deal breaker. Just keep it in mind.

I got this (along with the adapter and eyepiece) for my D70s. I wear glasses, and therefore can't press my eye as close to the viewfinder. That extra distance causes the round opening of the eyepiece/eyecup to vignette the viewfinder slightly. Not a huge deal, but since glasses prevent it from forming a closed seal around my eye, I don't think it minimizes stray light that much better than the stock rectangular eyecup either, which makes this not of much use to anyone who wears glasses.
I'd give it five stars for anyone who doesn't wear glasses, however.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
The DK-3 Rubber Eyecup is very useful to block out parasite light reaching the viewfinder from behind. Once attached to your Nikon body, it reduces 99.99% the light passing through the viewfinder from behind (only light reaching your eye is through the lens).
The biggest con for this product is the sensitive rubber from witch it's made of. I managed to break mine in 30 seconds after i put my hands on and i know how to handle photo equipments... so my hint is to be careful when attaching it to the body.

It feels nice on the skin. Even with eyeglasses on I dont get any vignetting view.
I dont know why I waited years to put this on my D300.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
This is a standard Nikon high quality piece. I adapted it for use on a D90 by mating it with the Nikon DK-22 Eyepiece Adapter with a few drops of glue. Blocks all light. Works perfectly. At its lowest point just covers 3-4mm of the LCD which is easily seen by simply tilting the camera.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
I purchased the DK-3 Rubber Eyecup after reading the reviews and I have to say that it really makes a difference. I like the way it feels and images in the viewfinder are brighter, because there is less light entering from the sides.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
I picked this up for my D7000 because Moose Peterson recommends using a rubber eyecup to dampen vibrations from your face (seriously). Although it takes some getting used to, I'm glad I bought it. If you are interested in this eyecup, you must also buy the EYEPIECE ADAPT f/N2-4-5-6000 SER/FM10 and the NIEPFM2 Finder Eyepiece for FM, FE & FA Series and put them all together for it to work. I prefer this eyecup to the DK-21M, which makes the corners blurry and obscures the info on the bottom of the viewfinder.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
Great addition to help give a view with no light leaking in. But with glasses it is a pain.
You need to order item number "NIEPAN6006 to receive DK-22 Eyepiece Adapter for Select SLR" to use the eyecup with a D300s

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
I wear glasses, this doesn't really help me. I thought it would help cut down stray light and make looking through the viewfinder easier and clearer, but it actually contributes little or nothing.
The stray light problem still exists because light seeps in through the edge of my glasses (though the distance between the frames and my eye). There's no getting around that.
I guess this becomes an accessory that looks nice on the camera, but ultimately does nothing for me. The build quality is very nice though, and if you don't wear glasses it makes things work a lot easier.
Unfortunately, despite the built-in diopter on the D3, I have to keep my glasses on at all times for other tasks and it would be annoying to take them off to look through the viewfinder each time, so I'm pretty much stuck.

ADDED TO MY D 300. I HAVE ALWAWS PREFERED THE EYECUP TO REDUCE STRAY LIGHT. GLAD NIKON OFFERED THE ABILITY TO PUT IT ON CAMERAS WITH THE RECTANGULAR EYEPIECE. THOSE WHO WEAR GLASSES MAY NOT LIKE THE EYECUP. IT WILL KEEP YOUR EYE TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE VIEWFINDER.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
Along with f/FM2 eyepiece and f/N2 eyepiece adapter you can build a better eyepiece than the standard one that comes with the D300. I down rate this because of its awkward fit to the eyepiece which can result iin its loss. Also too pricey for this type of item.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
I purchased this, along with the DK-22 eyepiece adapter and FM/FE/FA finder eyepiece so I could have a round eyepiece/eyecup for my D300. I really like this setup, and while others have mentioned a slight vignetting problem, I have encountered no vignetting issues with my own gear, so long as my eye is positioned dead-center. I find that the eyecup blocks extraneous light much better than the standard eyepiece for the D300 as it wraps gently around my eye socket, and I also find it to be more comfortable. The eyecup is slightly bulky, but I don't think it's so large that it interferes with other functions. For storage, it's easy to flip the eyecup "inside-out" so to speak, so that it doesn't stick out as far. I've only had it for a couple weeks so I don't know how durable it is, but it seems to be a rugged piece of thick rubber.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
The eyecup helps me see the viewfinder better since I wear eyeglasses. Using the eyecup does not allow as much additional light to enter the viewfinder which might affect the exposure settings. This, along with the FINDER EYEPIECE f/FM2/FE2/FA and the EYEPIECE ADAPT f/N2-4-5-6000 SER/FM10 easily mounted to my D300 and are now a permanent part of my camera.

I don't find stock Nikon eyecups to be very comfortable. I put a DK-3 eyecup on every camera and you need a finder eyepiece and adaptor to do it. It's so much more comfortable and keeps your nose away from the lcd. Well worth the extra cost.

Comments about Nikon DK-3 Rubber Eyecup:
This eye cup allows the LED meter of FM2 to be more easily seen in daylight. Importantly I feel much less eye fatigue using it.
The lower edge of the cup extends below the top of the film back, but is easily lifted up to close the back.
The cup has been very durable, despite my FM2 not often being coddled in a padded bag.
Every now and again I take it off to improve the "look" of the camera, but always put it back on. It's so much better with it on.
