Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 FW:
This is a great little mixer. Reviewed several first and settled on this and am pleased. It works well with firewire under XP, but is not supported via firewire under Linux at this time. (That was also something I was hoping for, tried, built new Jack drivers etc. and then realized after googling and reading boards that it probably wasn't going to work that way (yet - Alesis - need to do this! Linux + sound = good choice :-) ), but XP will do a chunk of what I want here to / from the mixer, and then can export/import to Hydrogen, Rosegarden, Ardour, etc. and XP progs as needed).
Level control is good, lack of sliders is not a problem. Pots seem clean - no noise. Effects work well, but apply to all inputs; can select which inputs to apply them to via the aux control, but it's one effect at a time for all 8.
Even inputting from a vinyl record deck works well!
Haven't tried mikes yet, but the phantom power is there if needed. Guitar, keyboard work just fine. Return from PC via firewire and audio out all function as expected, and I've only scratched the surface yet of the functionality and connectivity.
Seems to run a little hot, but not intolerably so.
It's small, neat, easy to work with and worth the money.
Derek.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 FW:
Use the product for radio show and podcast. Firewire was a disaster to install. Still having random blue screen of death issues with Windows XP. When it functions it is very useful. Originally bought for use on new Vista 64bit machine but company does not support it. 3 different windows machines this product failed to install properly on.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 FW:
Thought I was purchasing something for a quick interface of my audio equipment to my computer. Instead I got a powerful tool that has changed many of my audio situations.
Not only is the Multimix 8 a very smooth, clean and quality interface to my computer, but it far surpassed my basic needs. The bussing incorporated on this mixer is outstanding. The levels of different inputs and how they can be routed around the mixer is fantastic. I do not have one negative thing to say about what I have found to be an EXCELLENT product!

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 FW:
Man this thing really rocks!! In ableton live you can route each channel on the mixer to its own channel in the daw. The Sound card in this mixer is unbelievable! The firewire connection produces zero latency after you set your buffer rate correctly in your daw. Only downer Cubase is horrible.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 FW:
This is a great product at an affordable price, perfect for a nonprofit organization, home recording or a small production company. We've had one for a year now and liked it so much, we bought another for field production of live webcasts.
Alesis is a solid brand and although we've had little trouble with the product, the Alesis tech support folks have been excellent in answering any questions.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 FW:
This is a solid well constructed product that sounds great and has excellent features. The firewire offers tremendous flexability. I use it with audacity to record live events.
On the flip side, do not expect to use the bundled software, Cubase LE. My advice is not to attempt to install it. It was an ordeal to install to say the least, and it made the mixer not work. I unsinstalled everything and reinstalled the drivers and now it works perfectly.
