The Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Tele Converter (also known as a tele-extender) will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 1.4x, and will cut back the amount of light by one f/stop. For example, using a 1.4x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 420mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/4.

Note: Sigma APO Tele Converter 1.4x and 2x are dedicated teleconverter lenses. Due to the high optical quality of this teleconverter, this item will only fit and work with a select list of lenses. Please click here for a compatibility chart of all compatible lenses.

The DG denotes an added coating that achieves the best color balance while cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

I use the teleconverter with a telephoto lens Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG OS HSM.
The photos are extremely sharp and the colors are not distorted. It is very easy to use and it should not be any problem to anyone.
The telweconverter is an excellent quality and if used with lenses take one f step down.
I do not have any negative comments and I do recommend the teleconverter for use with telephoto lenses.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

I mostly use this teleconverter in combination with the Sigma 120mm – 300mm telephoto and have yet to experience any problems in image quality or focusing. This is my second teleconverter, the first went rolling down a steep rock face in the Canadian Rookies never to be seen again.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

As a Canon devotee for several decades, I have always wanted to use Canon lenses, feeling that they were the best tailored for Canon cameras. Since my latest camera ugrade, however, I've found difficulty with Canon lenses. The bottom line is that I can't afford "L" series lenses and find the quality of the ES lenses to be less than stellar. Consequently, a year or so ago, in the process of upgrading my glass, I tried the Sigma 10-20 mm wide angle zoom and love it. Next came a Sigma 70-400 zoom which produces sharp images at all focal lengths and, except for the weight, is a great subsitute for the Canon 70-200 I was using which produced less than sharp images and had severe dust problems.
My latest switch in lenses was to ditch the 28-135 lens that came with my 40-D and take up the Sigma 17-70 zoom for a "walk-around" lens. Again, it's a real stup up in quality at a much more reasonable price.
To make up for the loss in medium range zoom, I purchased the Sigma 1.4 converter. Paired with Sigma lenses, it is a joy to use. The loss of a stop of light is no big deal. Lenses retain their sharpness.
It does seem to slow down the autofocus a bit, but the optical stabilizaion doesn't seem to suffer.
I don't think that my kit is on par with a complete Canon "L" system, but going to Sigma has sharpened my pictures from the ES series lenses and, until I hit the lottery, my future purchases will be Sigma.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

This unit functions as advertised. It is manual focus which means the eyesight of the user must be excellent if you want images in focus. My problem is the beginning of cataracts which means I have a hard time focusing. I have had to switch eyes to use the teleconverer which can be awkward if you are not used to using your "off" eye. Before purchasing, use a lens in manual focus to ensure sharpness of your imate.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

I use this extender on my Canon EOS XSi with a Sigma 70-200 f/2 telephoto lens. My primary subject is little league baseball/softball of my children. The other parents have never seen photographs of their kids playing in the field like this lens takes. With the extra reach the extender provides you can get right in the glove of the outfielders and infielders. I'm selling the pictures as a fundraiser for the teams and the parents are just "ga ga" over the quality of the photographs of their kids. My photos have been in daylight so I can't speak to the loss of the stop the extender causes, but I see no loss of sharpness at all and no noise. I would highly recommend this extender to anyone photographing sports. The autofocus works great as the extender integrates with the Sigma 70-200 so seamlessly you don't even realize its on the camera.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

Works great with my Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX APO lens, increasing the focal length with almost no visible image sharpness degradation - even at wide open aperture (F4 in my case, since you do lose an F stop with the converter attached).

Little impact on autofocus under most lighting conditions. Not noticable on my APS-C body, a little on the 1v.

High quality construction made to withstand tough handling, the matte finish matches the matte finish of the Sigma lens.

Even though the picture looks like one overpriced single lens element, do not be deceived. This is a multi-elements precision lens attachment. Comes with a durable vinyl tubular case.

Contact pass-through ensures all metering modes, auto-flash and autofocus work as if the lens is directly attached with my lens. Adds very little length to the whole assembly.

Lend it to a friend who uses a Canon 20-700 F/4 IS and it worked perfectly with that lens.

Fair price if bought new at B & H; and if you can get it for around $100 used it is a must-have great deal.

Comments about Sigma 1.4x DG EX APO Teleconverter:

              Serious vignetting when attached to a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. I am shooting on a full-frame 5D.

I get better results shooting at f/2.8 @ 200mm without the converter and cropping in the image to a 280mm than I do with the converter and actually shooting at 280mm f/4.

The glass used in this converter is MUCH smaller in diameter than the Canon version of the same product. Think half-dollar size vs. quarter size. No wonder the Canon version costs so much more....it is simply just a superior product!!
