The Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF telephoto zoom lens provides a large constant f/4 maximum aperture at all focal lengths. The use of Apochromatic design and 4 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements give full correction of chromatic aberration and provide a high level of optical performance. A removable tripod mount is provided with the lens. Handholding is easy since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length.
The improved DG lens design corrects for various aberrations. This lens is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.
It is also possible to use this lens with Sigma 1.4x EX and 2x EX APO Tele Converters to convert it to an ultra tele-zoom lens.

I was surprised how good this lens is. I doubt there is a better zoom in it's speed and range.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF:
I had a Sigma 135-400 and a Tamron 70-300. Optically, it is significantly better than either one; it is also significantly heavier. Resolution is excellent even wide open. Being a constant f/4.0 lens, achieving a nice subject/background isolation is relatively easy. I have complete confidence that I can take a technically correct picture, so I am again the limitation. I am also thinking of getting the 2X TC down the road.
The not so good side includes 1) weight and 2) filter size. It is big & heavy as well as attracting attention - wanted as well as unwanted. A good sturdy tripod is mandatory along with a cable release to maximize stability. A good 82mm circular polarizer is well over $100 and even a UV is not cheap. So, factor in all these costs when you decide to buy this lens.

I shoot mostly wildlife with mine, works well with a 1.4x or 1.5x T.C. also. Mine is nice and sharp even at f4.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF:
A lot of people say to stick to prime lenses for good quality. In this case it doesn't apply. Very versitile range and sharp all the way through.
Moderately fast at f/4 and also sharp at all apertures. Do not worry about using wide open!
This lens balances very well also. I hear a lot about the weight of this lens, but to me not much of a concern. No its not a feather but....
Build quality is solid and user friendly. I would most definately highly recommend this lens to any one. I already have.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF:
I use this lens for wildlife and sports photos. The focus is auto focus is quick/accurate and at F4 fast enough to capture clear action shots.
Weight can be a bit much but with shake reductions not really an issue, unless your holding it for a long time.
Overall, nice price performance package.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF:
I mount it on my monopod for quick distance shots and on my tripod for longer shutter speeds. If they made a 120-300mm f:2.8 for my Pentax K-10-D it would be bigger, heavier, and costs over [$], with the money I saved I'm getting a Pentax K-20-D.
Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF:
This lens is quick for not being a hsm. Sharp and the sr works good with this lens. One thing to be aware of though, when using the 1.4 teleconverter, the shake reduction still recognizes it as a 450mm lens. Sharp throughout the zoom range.
Problems Encountered: Heavy and that is about it.
