The Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM telephoto zoom lens provides a large constant f/4 maximum aperture at all focal lengths. The use of Apochromatic design and 4 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements give full correction of chromatic aberration and provide a high level of optical performance.
The AF drive for the Nikon mount is equipped with the silent, responsive and high speed Hyper Sonic Motor and provides fulltime manual focus override. A removable tripod mount is provided with the lens. Handholding is easy since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length.
The improved DG lens design corrects for various aberrations. This lens is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.
It is also possible to use this lens with Sigma 1.4x EX and 2x EX APO Tele Converters to convert it to an ultra tele-zoom lens.
Note! HSM lenses, while able to manually focus with all Nikon F-mount cameras, will not autofocus with certain older film AF cameras. This is the same limitation as with Nikon's own AF-S lenses. Incompatible models are: N60, N55, N8008/s, N6006, N5005, N4004 & N2020.

This lens is mounted on a fuji s2. It is fast, sharp, & precise in snaping into focus. It is large but is well balanced and i was able to record sharp images @300mm with shutter speeds of 1/250, 1/125. Buy the Sigma 1.4x too. It is a perfect match to this lens 420mm @f5.6. The lens is solid, fit and finish are outstanding. The lens hood alone lets onlookers know you have some serious glass. Also I liked that you can have it in AF and still use the focus ring. It will come in handy when I can't redily use the af lock and recompose.

Purchased after finding reviews of this lens. Constant f/4 and able to shoot consistently at that aperture. If you can find one, don't pass it up.

Comments about Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D:
I used this lens to shoot wildlife on a safari trip to Tanzania. The lens is fast and sharp with excellent resolution. When shooting birds, I used the 1.4x EX APO tele converter - effectively converting it to a fast 400+ mm tele lens.
It is a big, heavy and well-built lens. A little large for a walk-about lens, but for it's intended purpose it is great.

Comments about Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D:
This is a wonderful lens. It is very sharp at f4 all the way through 300mm. Focus is extremely fast and reliable. Color and contrast are very good, and the bokeh is fairly smooth. For action photography, this Sigma is miles ahead of Nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6 VR, that I also own, on every parameter one can think of, except for size and weight. This is a large and heavy lens, very solidly built, a lens one won't take casually for a walk, and probably not the most convenient lens to travel with. But it still can be hand held, and for outdoor sports such as soccer I can't think of a better lens, short of spending a whole lot more. I would highly recommend this lens without any reservations.

Comments about Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D:
Minimum effort gives good to excellent results. Capable of very sharp pictures with good light and adequate shutter speed. I also use the Sigma 1.4x teleconverter and have been able to capture some really nice pictures. Best pictures seem to be around 200 - 250mm. Focus is fast and accurate in good light. Somewhat heavy but well balanced.

This is a great lens, sharp and not too heavy. The only negative thing I have to say is I wish the filter size was 77mm and not 82mm.

Comments about Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D:
I really love this zoom. I recently switched from Canon to Nikon and used to use the Canon 300 f/2.8 USM IS L and I find this lens to be just as sharp with a very fast AF. To me it's not too heavy being used to the 300 2.8 so it's nice to walk around with it.
Great Lens.

Comments about Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D:
I've owned this lens for the past year and it's been a great 150-450mm zoom, both indoors covering the courts and outside at many events. It's heavy of course but then again it should be. The constant f/4 is great and I usually lock the f/stop at that for indoor sports. Focus is pretty fast and quiet. All-in-all, it's a great option to consider at this price.

Comments about Sigma 100-300mm F/4.0 EX DG IF HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D:
This is a great lens for the money. Whilst not f/2.8 fast it is certainly better than the run-of-the-mill f4.5-5.6 brigade and offers usable shutter speeds in most conditions. It is bright and sharp across the range, very well built with smooth zooming and manual focusing actions, AF is quick and accurate and it looks good too!The main down side is its size and weight - it's a beast! I can hand-hold it OK but a sturdy monopod helps take the strain. This is not a lens you just sling in a bag and take with you, which was a shame when I travelled to the Far East, as I had to minimise my hand luggage so it had to stay at home. The tripod mount can get in the way of the zoom ring too, but if you rotate it to a certain point it clears this OK.Overall, a great lens for a good price.
Problems Encountered: None.
