The Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff is a zip-on furry cover with deep artificial fur that fits snugly over the NTG-1 and NTG-2 microphones. The Wind Muff greatly reduces wind noise when recording in windy conditions.

Rode's video mike is great at getting sound from a distance but the stock foam cover doesn't work well for wind above slow breeze. This deadcat kills virtually wind noise, and the smooth lining, small velcro tab make for easy removal when you go back inside. Used it for a wedding at the top of a ski mountain while storm blew in from 8 miles out. The guests could scarcely hear the mothers, but the mic and deadcat gave me great sound for the DVD. If you plan to record outside - and you will - get a deadcat. WAY cheaper than a sound guy...

this is definitely the cheapest windmuff I found. It does what its supposed to (cuts down wind). It's really only useful for a slight breeze, but its much better than not having it...Read complete review

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
If you can't afford a full zeppelin, go with this cover. It doesn't fit many other mics but if you have an NTG-1 or 2 this is a cheap solution for high wind situations.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
I bought this to cover up my Rode NTG-2 microphone that I purchased from the B and H used section and I find that it is a hit or miss. The little bit of filming that I have done outside I must admit has been pretty wind free, but if you have the mic hooked up to a camera that is on a car boom like I had it, it allowed for a good amount of wind to come through. The audio quality was still great it was just obnoxious.

As I own a Rode NTG-2 this was the perfect accessory. Yes there is a cheaper one available, but I would rather buy from the manufacturer of the microphone so I don't miss a beat. I know it will fit and work well.

You are planning to shoot outdoors and there is no way in the whole universe that you have the power to control the environment?
Let me tell you one thing:
Wind will happen.
And putting some kind of cloth around the mic will make things worse.
So instead of gutting that teddy bear you had since you were two, buy this.
You won't regret it.

Even though I'm against animal cruelty, this DEAD CAT is a must buy if you serious about shooting outdoors. It performed flawless even at sea with strong winds.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
My mistake.
I used the Dead Cat on a Rode VideoMic on a Canon Vixia HV-30 with the Canon wide-angle lens.
Only after flying back from the windy outdoor shoot in Denver did I discover what looks like whisps of long hair flitting across the top of the frame! Because the Dead Cat's long hair is very light colored, I couldn't see it in the LCD camera monitor during the shoot, but they sure are noticeable on a large monitor. Ruined my outdoor interviews... and it actually shed hair all over my camera case!
However, the windnoise certainly was minimal, but that doesn't matter if the shot is ruined.
Use only on a boom, or when the mic is well away from the camera lens.

seems expensive but works great. fits well over the foam on my Videomic. I even use it inside to cut fan noises, it does cut a few db of the voice but its to be expected.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
Works well for cutting wind noise and pops. Rubs the chassis of the Videomic and causes horrible noise. Easy to correct by banding the end of it with velcro or similar to keep it from touching. More of a design issue with the Videomic than the deadcat.

Bought this to use with a Rode Videomic on Sony VX2000. The VX2000 is not know for its great audio quality. Major improvement with mic. The Deadcat windmuff drastically cuts down annoying wind noise. I keep on mic all the time.

Good product although the hairs do shed a bit. (For the record, Rode claims it is made of synthetic hairs and no animals were abused in the making of this product).
