the Ee-S Super Precision focusing screen is designed to facilitate manual focusing with high-speed lenses (f/2.8 or faster). The Ee-S screen has finer microlenses than the Ee-A or Ee-D options, along with a steeper parabola of focus to make the image pop in and out of focus more vividly in the viewfinder; however, the Ee-S focusing screen is not recommended for slower lenses because it's not very bright.

I've had an EE-S for ages but never got round to trying ituntil recently. Definitely the best value for money of anyupgrade I have ever made. Manual focusing is a breeze now, even if focus is out only by a tiny amount the image isclearly blurred. It also gives a lot more confidence in theaccuracy of autofocus.I only use f2.8 lenses or faster with the exception of usinga tele extender. In this case the screen is pretty dark(f5.6) but other than with slower lenses I highly recommendthis screen if you ever manual focus. Even in low light, the reduction in viewfinder brightness is offset by the easeof getting the focus point just right.Fitting was a lot easier than I thought it would be usingthe supplied mini tongs

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
I use fast glass, frequently wide open, and I feel this screen is a must to meaningfully evaluate which areas are in focus (depth of field). This is true whether one uses AF or MF.
At wide apertures the standard screen provides a gross overestimation of depth of field - with this one pretty much What You See Is What You Get. You can't beat that.

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
If you shoot with with faster apertures than f3.5 you really should consider this focussing screen. There are a lot of technical reasons as to why, but all you need to know is that it makes it much more obvious what is in focus and what is not. Things out of focus feel more out of focus, making for faster reactions and less missed opportunities.
It's a little tricky to install but it's not as bad as it could be. I think most people could manage.

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
The super precision focusing screen enables the photographer to manually focus on a subject and shoot at wide apertures and get great results. Sorry, but the layout of the 5d's focus points leaves a bit to be desired. When shooting at wide apertures focus, re-compose is not an option if you want sharp images. With this piece of equipment the problem is solved. The only drawback is I don't like changing it out to often. Dust likes to find its way into the viewfinder when changing screens. I do use it with slower lenses and the "darkness" does not bother me.

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
Canon's tilt-shift lenses are manual focus only, so this screen is essential when shooting with one of the TS-E lenses on the 5D. The Ee-S makes manual focus adjustments much more obvious on up-close subjects and helps noticeably on subjects that are further away.
Make sure that you have the diopter dial on the 5D set to the sharpest setting for your eyes before attempting to manual focus with this screen.
Unless you have very shaky hands, you'll be able to swap focus screens fairly easy. Do this using the provided tool indoors in a dust-free environment to keep your camera body, sensor, and focus screens clean.
Do not attempt to clean the focus screen with anything other than a bulb blower if you do gets spots on it. Brushing or wiping the screen will only make things worse.

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
My preferred lenses are the 28 1.8 and the 85 1.8. Before on the EE-A screen it was incredibly difficult to obtain precise focus, especially on parts of the frame without AF points or in the dark. Recomposing never seemed to work well with the 28 as the focus is not consistent across the frame. The screen makes everything a little darker, but I abosolutely love the more accurate DOF in the viewfinder. Every photo is much sharper now. If you use any lenses faster than 3.5, you need (yes need) this.

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
This screen moves the 5D from enthusiast to pro. I would happily trade the slight darkening of the viewfinder for the increased precision with any lens. If you use fast glass with the 5D you absolutely need this screen to tell if your shots are going to be in focus.
I threw the stock screen away.

Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
Just lovely. Now I can focus manually with confidence, e.g. with my 5D and 85L f1.2. And if your camera doesn't have Live View, Ee-S is a must for macro-work.
Comments about Canon Ee-S Super Precision Focusing Screen:
I got the precision screen not for improved manual focusing, but for better indication of depth of field. When shooting with the 85mm f/1.2 I was finding that I was having too many shots where I thought I had had critical sharpness across the eyes and mouth, only to find on viewing the shot that I was mistaken. This was also an issue when trying to assess the effect of depth of field for product shots or other work - I was having to go to a higher f stop than required as the viewfinder did not indicate an accurate DOF. Since getting the Ee-s I am very happy - the screen gives a much better representation of what is actually in focus and still seems plenty bright enough. That said, I do not have any lenses over f/2.8.
