The Tamrac 5547 Adventure 7 Backpack (Red with Black) is a backpack that carries and protects a large digital or film SLR with a lens attached, several lenses, a flash and accessories. The backpack has a lower section that is a completely foam-padded camera bag compartment and an upper section that functions like a traditional backpack to hold a light jacket, lunch or other personal items. There is a front pocket that features the Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available. The foam-padded lower camera compartment has a weather flap and quick-release buckle for security and weather protection.
The 5547 has two mesh pockets on the sides provide quick access to accessories and water bottles. Two lash tabs on the bottom of the backpack can accommodate a compact tripod (requires accessory straps). This pack is equipped with an adjustable waist belt and an expandable sternum strap. It features the SA.S. Strap Accessory System attachment with points for customizing the bags with optional accessories.

Overall I like the design and ease of use. The camera compartment has a decent amount of space for a body and 3-4 lenses. The height of the camera compartment is somewhat limiting however. You won't fit an 80-200 f2.8 zoom in there without seriously distorting the shape of the bag. Of course Tamrac didn't design it for that kind of user. If that's what you need to fit in here, then buy the next size up.
The upper compartment is roomy enough for a light jacket or a couple of books, snacks, random stuff you may want while traveling.
My only real gripe is that I've had this bag for less than two months and already the weight of my D70 with 60mm micro attached has completely flattened part of the foam insert that it rests on. It's a minor concern really since the only purpose of that flap is to keep your body from rubbing against a tall lens or flash. But I would have thought the foam would take a little longer than 6 weeks to lose its integrity.
Even with that flaw, this bag still felt much more robust than the OrionTrekker II.

I use the product for my D80 w/grip with the following two lens 16-85 VR and the 70-300 VR.
I like the size of the bag overall and and there is plenty of room for me to carry the items I need to carry on days when I am out traveling. I had to buy this size bag as it states that it will accommodate a camera with grip attached. The dividers are not up to standard they do not support the camera well enough and will begin to crush even after using them the first time. That should not be the case considering what the bag costs.
I have already modified the bag to to work better without the divider supports. The shoulder straps and the waist belt fit well and adjusting them to fit is not a problem. I gave it 3 stars because of the dividers otherwise the bag is really quit nice and very dependable.

Great construction...durable & waterproof! But a little small for price, would be a good starter bag but would require larger bad as equipment grows.

I shoot with the Nikon D7000, and this bag is great! I was able to fit the camera, a couple lenses, and the flash in the lower part, and then anything else I needed in the main pouch. They also thought of things like cell phone storage which I really appreciate.
Time will tell how well this bag holds up, but so far so good. It's really handy if you're an on-the-go photographer. Both commuting and hiking are made easier with this one. Enjoy!

I am able to carry my d300 and a few favorite lenses comfortably. I like the little pouches for extra cards and batteries. I feel this is a tough well made bag

Pros - Tapered top great for maneuvering around airports, baggage compartments under seat storage, tight walking spaces outdoors
17 inch sleeve is perfect fit for laptop. Solid craftsmanship and comfort.
Cons - The zippers are a nuisance. They work but usually two hands are required all the time. We photo people don't have enough hands as it is.

Comments about Tamrac 5547 Adventure 7 Backpack (Red):
Purchased both Adventure 6 and 7, and found the A-6 best for me because of its smaller size. I can fit my Canon Rebel XTi and zoom lens in bottom compartment of the A-6 (tight), mcards, spare battery and charger in front outside zip pocket, and still have room on top for personal, daytrip stuff. Side mesh pockets hold cell, keys, misc., even a bottle of water. The A-7 is substantially larger than the A-6. The A-7 is about the size of a regular bookbag. The A-6 is more like a mini-backpack, more portable and discreet. It's more grab-and-go for me, stuffs better in small places. Functional, well-designed product, durable. If your camera gear is larger than what I describe, go with the A-7 unless you want to use both compartments (upper and lower) for your camera gear only.

I spent a good deal of time shopping online and in local stores, I couldn't find the ideal camera bag. After reading several online reviews, I was eager to purchase the Tamrac 5547 as it offered everything I was looking for. Lots of PADDED room below for Nikon D60 and lenses, loads of room above for bino's, keys, cellphone, and food. The backpack is extremely comfortable. This was the perfect buy!

Too small to be of any use to a pro. Fine for 30d or 40d but no room for a 1D Mrk ll N with anything other than a single short lens. Impossible to fit a 70-200f2.8 lens in the pack even without a camera body. Well built and a great concept but only usefull for small camera with short lenses.

Used on a recent trip. Nice design, camera etc.. fit in bottom compartment, upper section is a regular backpack. Carried canon 30d with lens attached, spare Tamron zoom lens, filters, spare battery, usb card reader/cable and spare compact flash cards - with room to spare in camera compartment.
Sturdy construction, well designed, straps very comfortable (carried over 9 miles one day), web side pockets are very handy.

This is a very nice pack for a novice who is traveling. The camera section is large enough to hold the camera and two lens easily and the front section also has room for and extra battery, card and even an extra charger. The way the camera section zips up you don't have to worry about someone sneaking up behind and taking anything. As for the upper section. There is an average amount of room. I was able to carry around two jackets and still had some room left.

I used this bag around Miami and Boston just packing my D-300 with grip and 2-3 lenses and my SB-600 flash. I found it very comfortable to wear and easy to manuever to get my gear. The bag had plenty of space for extra batteries, filters and what ever else you would need.

Comments about Tamrac 5547 Adventure 7 Backpack (Red):
This is a great camera backback at an affordable price. I did a lot of research on all the major brands and types - backpacks, slings, and waistpacks. Everything lead me to this this one. I have a Tamrac waistpack that I used to carry my regular SLR around but it's somewhat big and it doesn't have extra space for snacks and personal items. I needed something that would hold my Nikon D40 DSLR, an extra zoom lens (55-200mm), memory cards as well as filters and additional space for maybe a future flash as well as some smaller accessories. I also needed some space for snacks, water and personal items. The main purspose for this was to carry items during vacation, daily hikes, and camping trips. Well having just returned my week long trip in Williamsburg, I am very pleased with the sturdiness, the quality and the functionality of the Adventure 7. It's got pretty good padding to secure your camera equipment while having extra space to "grow into" plus it has two mesh pockets on the side for water bottles which is nice. It's also got good shoulder padding which is great when you are walking around all day. I know a lot of people out there that want "quick access" to their camera and dislike backpacks due to the extra time involved and to "take it off", but there are ways to access it like a sling bag. If you know you are going to be in an area where you might be taking some pics then you can always put one arm into the shoulder harness therefore creating your own sling. If you are walking in an area where you know you aren't going to be taking pics - like going to or from your vehicle, then put the backpack on like normal with both arms in the shoulder harness - which shares the weight evenly. One of the big pluses to this is that it doesn't look like a camera bag either. It looks like a typical backpack and blends in with other backpacks out there that many people use during trips and everyday living.
I really don't have anything bad to say about it - it's exactly what I needed for what I use and the events I use it for.

Comments about Tamrac 5547 Adventure 7 Backpack (Red):
A good choice if you plan to take your camera a lot on slightly more demanding hikes or bike rides. Built very robust and comfortable it behaves just like a regular backpack. The camera and accessories are placed at the bottom of the pack, so weight distribution is not a problem when you need to pass under a fallen tree etc. Upper chamber is quite spacious (especially when compared to the smaller brother, Adventure 6 series) and allows you to take some extras for longer hikes.
Another good thing is that it does not catch the eye as an obvious 'camera backpack' which is good if you go places where you don't want to be very obvious (and get rid of your equipment rather quickly).
The only problem I see with it (but might be the case with all backack solutions) is getting the equipment out of it. It is a bit of a pain to take it of your back, unzip, get the camera out, zip (not to let all other stuff fall out from the lower compartment) and finally take the photo. After a while you simply don't put the camera back very often, which is still OK for me even though sometimes not possible/recommended (bike ride...).
Overall I love it :-)

Fits Nikon d-80, plus an extra lense, flash, spare batteries, cords, charger, filters etc. I like it because it has plenty of padding, but it doesn't look like a camera bag. It looks like a regular back pack. Get the extra straps so that you can strap on your tripod. Also has room to carry personal items like walet, etc.

A good bag for camera and a couple of lenses and other accessories. Has small amount of storage for other stuff up top. Not the easiest to get to the camera in a pinch but does the job of getting your gear around.

I pack a D80 w/18-135 lens, 50mm lens, video camera and speedlight all in the lower compartment leaving the upper compartment for food, pullover and other stuff. This bag is small enough to take to a MLB ballpark and to carry around for hours. I've only had it for a few weeks but love it so far.
