Comments about Onkyo TX-SR304 Home Theater Receiver (Silver):
I've had an old Onkyo A-15 amp for 20 plus years and it just never gives me any trouble. So when it was time to move up to an HD TV I wanted something that would handle optical output from the HD TV and the 304 fit the bill. The new HD TV's have so many HDMI inputs and RCA cable inputs that you don't really need an HDMI capable AV receiver, IMHO. Just route the HDMI's directly to the HD TV and then use one (and only one) optical output from the HD TV to the 304 so it's acting as just an amplifier. I have my old multi CD player optically connected to the 304 as well, (the 304 has two optical inputs). It's a really easy setup and you save some money by not having to buy a newer HDMI AV receiver.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR304 Home Theater Receiver (Silver):
I purchased this unit for use in the bedroom and the 304 fits the bill perfectly. It lacks the back channels and HDMI, but so what. I use a 576 for my family room system and find that model a great product with all the bells and whistles you could ask for the money. I'm a great fan of Onkyo products. For the money, you just can't beat their products.

So far so good a couple items I wish where better like A-B speaker mode only uses stereo mode. It would be nice to use all the other modes available.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR304 Home Theater Receiver (Silver):
I put this system with a Infinity TSS-450 Speaker System and used my old infinitys for the rear speakers so I have a 7.1 system. The system has many adjustments. More than I would prefer but after I bought a sound meter and adjusted the levels of each chanel wow I was amased in my opinion it blows my brothers 123 bose system away.
This is a year later and everytime I go downstairs and watch a movie I am impressed, it is a great system.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR304 Home Theater Receiver (Silver):
This is the second Onkyo receiver I have purchased (first one was 8 years ago), and Onkyo seems to have kept their build quality high. Originally I purchased a Yamaha due to a great price but was severely disappionted at the quality - it made a "pop" sound in my Klipsch speakers when initially powered on due to either improper DC grounding in the unit or a faulty capacitor(s) not absorbing the current properly. So I returned that unit and went with what I knew would be good, Onkyo. No regrets.
Sound clarity and separation to the 5.1 channels is very nice. The wattage rating is a bit low, however with good sensitivity speakers that issue kind of goes away. Also given the super low oepration temperature of Onkyo receivers, one of their trademarks, this unit can run for hours without having to worry about if it's getting damaged due to overheating.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR304 Home Theater Receiver (Silver):
This receiver replaces an older Adcom Pre-Amp and Power Amp (the Amp died), and will live out its life pumping background level music through the 10 pairs of stereo speakers placed around our house. At this price, it was cheaper than buying almost any decent power amp, and it does its job very well (but not with much power to spare). It lacks most of the features the more expensive (and newer) receivers now have; HDMI first and foremost. However, it is a well built and nice looking unit -- typical of Onkyo.

I am completely satisfied. Sound is clear, crisp and balanced without adjusting any levels. I would buy this again in a heart beat.
This unit replaced an older combo stereo that finally died. I use it strictly for audio, and have a cd player, record player, and mp3 player(connected via y cable). Sound is played through a set of Infinity Primus P152 bookshelf speakers.
